MOD NOTE: TROPES BLANKET-BANNED FROM HAVING VIDEO EXAMPLES:
- Attempted Rape
- Bound and Gagged
- Epileptic Flashing Lights
- Jump Scare
- Nocturnal Emission
- Pooping Where You Shouldn't
- Potty Failure
- Sensory Abuse
- Screamer Prank
It's been discussed a lot at the Video Uploading thread that a lot of poor videos are slipping through the cracks, and that a clean-up effort is necessary if we are to combat the problem.
Common issues are:
- Videos spoiling major events from a work
- Videos not actually fitting the trope they're attached to
- Videos in which the important part doesn't happen until halfway through, with the length being ultimately pointless
- Videos that use the entire work, breaking copyright; this can be done either with one video showcasing an entire short video, or multiple videos that add up to using the entire work in piecemeal.
- Videos lacking the proper media source, or any media source at all.
- General quality problems, like audio issues or artifacting.
So, we've got our work cut out for us; but this is at least a place to discuss problems and come to solutions.

Hello :) I found an iffy video example on Calling the Old Man Out, "Tony Calls Cap Out." I asked about it in Is this an example, and Adept agreed that it was a shoehorn. So, can someone edit the video?
Edit: Grammar. Shame on me.

Something About: The creator has made it very clear he doesn't want his videos reuploaded without permission outside of short, credited clips, yet there is a more than a minute long video on Bait-and-Switch (a great example of it, mind) for an episode that is about four minutes long.
Honestly I'm kinda surprised it took this long for someone to upload a video for this series.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Should we make a note on some page about certain creators who don't want significant parts of their videos uploaded? Maybe a "special cases" heading under No Video Examples, Please!?

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.I deleted the Situational Damage Attack video. If you have any other concerns with Paper Mario: Color Splash or Paper Mario: The Origami King, please let me know.
- Nobody but the original uploader of the video can change anything about it.
- You cant really edit your own videos on the site, but you can delete them and reupload them. (The edit button is only for the title, thumbnail, desc., media source and deleting the video if you want to).
Yeah, I think we oughta

Hey, so two videos I tried uploading broke both times, and it won't let me access the menu to delete them. Help is required
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Wait, did you click Edit Videos under the video examples for the trope? Most importantly, you need to be on the trope page to edit videos.
Yes, that is how I uploaded them in the first place. Clicking the gear that normally brings up the menu does nothing on these videos.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢That can happen if you have some special characters (for example "ÂÂ") in the description.
There were no special characters.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢But are there now? The editor has a tendency to add them seemingly randomly.
Anyway, if you can't access the edit menu, the best you can do is probably to PM a mod about it (they should still be able to delete the videos for you).
Nevermind.

Update on the undeletable videos; turns out it turned a symbol into a special character, so that's why it won't open the menu. Which one of the mods would be open to a PM about this?
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Hey I will ask this question again since it got buried. Can portions of musical lyrics videos be used as examples? Like, if I wanted to add, say, a trope example from a song, could I use part of the lyrics video for it? Or is that not allowed?
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallWe really should.
I think it'd depend on the type of video. Like if it was just the lyrics on-screen I don't think it'd be a good idea, but if it was a video with lyrics and stuff happening (e.g. the lyrics video for "Punch Drunk Destiny"), I think it would be fine.

Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢Quick write-up for an addendum to No Video Examples.
The following works have limitations on video examples:
- Vine: Due to the extremely short length of a Vine, there's no way to upload enough material that coherently summarizes the trope without violating copyright.
- Something About: The creator does not want his videos re-uploaded outside of short, credited clips.
Thanks for the clarification! Wasn't familiar with the creator so I just went off your initial post.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Slight addendum to the SA bullet;
- Something About: The creator does not want his videos re-uploaded outside of short, credited clips; anything under thirty seconds is fine for videos over five minutes.
I believe he once said 25-30 seconds was fine, but considering the animations can clock in anywhere from 4-8 minutes (and a few of his first were around 2), we might be skirting copyright from the shorter ones.

Regarding the ratings system, is your example getting rated 3-stars grounds considered a red flag? I thought my Workaholics example for Hollywood Tone-Deaf was fine, but someone rated it a 3 (kind of an example) and now I'm wondering if I did something wrong. Is it the description?
The video has the third actor "sing" in a clearly fake screechy voice, so I thought that fit the trope.

The votes are basically meaningless, since there's no way to know why they got the vote they did.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessWhile thats true, searching for videos by Lowest Rated is actually pretty helpful in sorting out the bad ones.
Edited by antenna_ears on Nov 1st 2020 at 7:06:54 AM
True.
I wouldn't sweat a 3-star rating, though. One of mine has only 3-stars and I suspect it's because of sound quality issues (it was my first upload and I wasn't used to it), but since I can't know for sure I'm not sweating it.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessOne of my videos got a 1-star rating and I came to the thread wondering if there was a problem, and once it got more votes it jumped to 4 stars. It was a video about a slightly controversial issue, so I'm wondering if the issue was that it didn't illustrate the trope or if it was simply somebody who didn't like the video's topic.
