To check, I think the following two examples are Recursive Canon, not Direct Line to the Author:
- Hercules: The Legendary Journeys: The episode "Yes Virginia, There is a Hercules" reveals that Hercules is immortal and survived all the way to the present day. Taking on the identity of an actor named Kevin Sorbo, he helped set up the show in order to inspire people as well as reminisce about his old adventures and friends.
- Xena: Warrior Princess: The episode "The Xena Scrolls" reveals the the show was made when scrolls that Gabrielle wrote about Xena's adventures were recovered and deciphered.
Edit: I tossed up Sandbox.Literary Agent Hypothesis to help run through the on-page examples (and got side-tracked by a work that was in the wrong namespace). I'm moving stuff to a folder at the bottom of the page if I think it has In-Universe evidence for the hypothesis, rather than "fans make assumptions". Mostly examples like the above.

Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Little late to the party, but yeah. YMMV.
The closest thing to a non-YMMV version of this would be "aspects of this work to align to the creator's life" but that A: Would be trivia and B: Is covered by Write What You Know.

Hopefully it will get the thread moving.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI copied Sandbox.Literary Agent Hypothesis's description over to Main.Literary Agent Hypothesis. I'll probably look at the wicks and on-page examples soon, since a different thread I was working on is done, but I might need to start from scratch with the on-page examples (since more were added since the sandbox was made).
Edit: I took care of on-page examples (the Square Peg, Round Trope entry wasn't kidding; there were a buttload of examples that needed to be moved to an objective trope). Only wicks should remain.
Edit: Also noting that someone unilaterally changed Literary Agent Hypothesis's definition in the description for Direct Line to the Author. I undid that.
Update: Main/ wicks have been cleaned. Most of the wicks were misuse; usually they belonged under Direct Line to the Author (probably at least partially because Literary Agent Hypothesis spent years incorrectly tagged as an objective trope, while Direct Line to the Author actually is one), but sometimes A True Story in My Universe or Recursive Canon was appropriate.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.I've just gone down the related to page, stopping after I cleaned the Film/ wicks. Some of the examples were valid, so I moved them to the YMMV subpage and cross-wicked onto the trope page.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanI haven't done any work on this lately, so I don't know if it was completed. I don't know if crazysamaritan finished it, or if anyone else has done any work but didn't post about it.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. Thanks for the reminder. I've done a couple of fixing sprees, but the Literature section is pretty long. Gor is locked, but I'll hold off on adding the request through "Locked Pages" until I can be sure its the only one in Literature that needs a mod to edit it.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I might as well mention that I have a text file to keep track of TRS wick cleaning (to avoid retreading pages I've already been to, partially to avoid going back to a page I already edited and accidentally edit warring). I went through the namespaces in alphabetical order, not counting doing Main/ first, and my file says I left off with Fanfic/ (no camelcase; I did FanFic/, whose pages may have been moved to Fanfic/ along with other capitalization fixes), and I put in the file to skip over Literature/ and save it for last due to how many examples that namespace has.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Sounds good. I had intended to skip Literature myself... and then started doing it anyway. I've fixed (one was legit!) the Literature namespace, stopping at "The". Taking a break for a bit, I'll repost when Literature is done and then pick the next-largest namespace or you can suggest one.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I did some examples but I wonder what these are:
- WhateleyUniverse.Tropes A To I: Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: H.P. Lovecraft was a psychic and a wizard who fought against Mythos cultists, but eventually went insane from reading The Necronomicon too many times. Later, he was somehow sent back in time to medieval Egypt, where he became Abdul Alhazred, the author of the book he went crazy reading.
- The Legend of Tarzan: Literary Agent Hypothesis: Similar to The Little Mermaid TV series, an episode focuses around Edgar Rice Burroughs as a struggling author traveling to Africa searching for inspiration for a book after reading a news story about Tarzan.
- The Flight of Dragons: Literary Agent Hypothesis: The main character has the same name as the author of the original book and, for good measure, he mentions in the film that he's writing a book called The Flight of Dragons. As well, the diagram he draws on the stone to visualize how dragonfire works is found in the book.
I'd remove the first, replace the second with Direct Line to the Author, and replace the third with Recursive Canon. I don't have enough information on the first, and I'm not sure if A True Story in My Universe applies or one of the other choices, so removing the pothole is quickest.
I'm surprised at how often Character Narrator is turning up as the misuse; as if the idea that the story being told by one of the participants is the biggest reason for LAH. Direct Line to the Author is still the majority, but I don't believe I was anticipating how frequent CN would be.
Literature.Gor has been submitted to Locked Pages, and all the other Literature links are removed, having been replaced or removed (ZCE/unclear). Link to TRS threads in project mode here.
I actually never considered the possibility of misuse falling under Character Narrator. The concept certainly isn't unknown to me, but I don't recall if I've ever seen the TV Tropes page for it.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Gor is done.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanDid a bunch more... Trivia subpages up next.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. There's still a wick to LAH in the Sherlock trivia subpage, but it is within the context of Fandom. I'm not sure what to do with that wick, since it describes the audience supporting Doyle's work and the page has no examples listed...
At any rate, I've gone a bit further, and I will skip WMG subpages because.... they're WMG. Next up for checking is WebAnimation.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I should be done. If you could please double-check the wicks, ~GastonRabbit?
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I actually haven't worked on this project in a while, so if you're done with your cleanup, then I can't think of anything else to do, so I'm pretty sure everything's done here.
Edit: I posted a notice on the discussion page early on, but it was kind of pushed down the list by a couple of new threads.

Crown Description:
Should Literary Agent Hypothesis be YMMV?
I added it to the Audience Reactions index. Now all that's left is to move out-of-universe wicks to YMMV subpages, and to modify in-universe examples to account for their in-universe status.
Edit: Oh, and misuse should be accounted for, too.
