"No Recent Examples Please" cleanup

Go To

Edit: I've created the index. So far I've added only those pages that have mandatory waiting periods already in effect.

It's been brought up in a few places recently (most notably in this ATT thread) that we have a few tropes / Audience Reactions / etc. that have mandatory waiting periods before being added. The suggestion has been made— which I tend to agree with— that some sort of index to keep track of which tropes have waiting periods and what those periods are would be helpful.

Besides what's already on the index, we've got:

Template tag for work pages:

%% Per Administrivia/NoRecentExamplesPlease, do not add [Trope] until [X] months/days/weeks after the episode's release (Month Date, Year).

Use this date calculator to add the amount of months/days/weeks in accordance to No Recent Examples, Please!.

  • As mentioned here, the consensus is that NREP warnings in trope page descriptions can use bold text so that they stand out.

So Bad, It's Good, So Bad, It's Horrible, and So Okay, It's Average have been added to the page. The entry was called on September 15, but never added.

Critical Dissonance was added a few months ago without notice; it's at +11 -2 right now so I'll start the three-day timer on it.

Just fixed the first example in the anime folder of Clumsy Copyright Censorship where the Discotek media release of Kodomo no Omocha was referred to as being "upcoming in 2019".

Number one fan of characters that appear only once and ultimately were a recurring character either in disguise or trying a new image.

Is there a waiting time for Adaptation Displacement? If there isn't one, I think there should be one, since it could attract knee-jerk reactions before a month, when people assume a new work is more recognized than the other ones just as it’s released.

I think all Audience Reactions that aren't explicitly about pre release phenomena should have a waiting period of at least six months. That should eliminate all inappropriate knee jerk reactions.

Thoughts?

[up] Even just two weeks seems overkill, especially if it applies to every Audience Reaction. Some Audience Reactions are more prone to accumulating knee-jerk reactions than others.

And some Audience Reactions are typically about knee-jerk reactions but not necessarily pre-release reactions, like They Changed It, Now It Sucks!.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

This was brought up before, but the TRS thread for Genre Killer isn't really going anywhere, and the only thing that seemed to be suggested as a solution was to add Genre-Killer to the No Recent Examples index. Should it be added to the crowner?

Doesn't need to be. If the TRS concludes that we need a wait period, then we can have the crowner there or just go with consensus.

I think Dork Age should only be added once it seems the age in question has ended. I'm seeing entries for Dork Ages that supposedly started in 2018 (i.e. "HBO is starting to show some disturbing signs of this").

Why was Apparently Powerless Puppetmaster brought to here instead of NRLEP? This is a a subtrope of Manipulative Bastard, which itself is NRLEP for being a morality trope.

Well honestly, if it's a morality trope, then RL examples should be banned altogheter.

Alright I've got an interesting one.

Worst News Judgement Ever was brought up in the ROCEJ thread by myself over an entry that attempted to downplay the Charlottesville attack, which was followed by a request to put the trope in No Real Life Examples Please. However, the thread for that already voted to keep real life examples, so the second suggestion was to put a 5-10 year time limit on Real Life examples on that trope.

Would anyone on this thread be open to that? Should it be added to the crowner?

[up]I don't think there's anything about Worst News Judgment Ever that would merit a time limit. It has no more ROCEJ concerns than any other trope that allows Real Life examples.
