[up]I think you would need TRS for that. Anime Theme Song does read like a useful notes, but it has over 400 wicks, most of which use it like a trope.

I previously mentioned cleaning up Abuse but got no response one way or the other, so... do I go for it?

I also found that Victim-Blaming has a whole lot of content irrelevant to creating works, such as "Avoiding Victim Blaming". I would like to tackle that as well.

Covered in Star Wars Cleanup, Deadpool, and Web Video sand. I'm not coarse and rough, but I get everywhere.

I just stumbled upon UsefulNotes.Scootertrix The Abridged. Scootertrix the Abridged seems to be a Choose Your Own Adventure Interactive Movie, and this Useful Notes page seems to be a walkthrough of sorts, detailing which choice leads to which segment.

Pretty sure this isn't a valid use of the namespace...

Alright, I'm about to head out for work, so I'll do that later if no one else gets around to it by the time I get back.

I'm drafting up a UsefulNotes.Figure Skating page, and in the process of collating related pages I found Tonya Harding. This is just troping real life, ain't it?

[up] Yeah, the "tropes" listed there include a NRLEP page (Abusive Parents), a Sugar Wiki moments page (Moment of Awesome), and a YMMV entry (Never Live It Down). That whole section can be cut.

Useful Notes pages don't get trope lists unless they are discussing fictional portrayals. Cut the trope list. The page itself seems fine though.

I'd imagine it was mainly made in the wake of the biopic I, Tonya. I'll go ahead and cut the list.

Anyway, UsefulNotes.Figure Skating is now live, is it ok?

EDIT: Andddd while indexing I have learned that other athletes like UsefulNotes.Michael Jordan have trope lists...

Useful Notes has over 1100 subpages. Should this really be under Long-Term?

[up] Did you mean "should this be under short term"? Because yeah, I could see this being moved to long-term.

[up][up][up]The useful notes page looks pretty good. Does part of that page include cutting all the linked creator pages? They are all for people who are not creators of tropable works, and the pages are mostly involved in troping the real life person. They should be moved to Useful Notes at best, although since most of them have no notable appearances in fiction I'm not sure that's warranted.

I'm drafting a Sportspeople cleanup OP. Is it the correct course of action to cut the UN page if it has no relevance to fictional portrayals? eg. UsefulNotes.Rafael Nadal

[up] Yeah, useful notes pages are only for things that are relevant to fiction. If someone made a film about tennis that starred him, then it would be fine, but as it stands now, that page is troping a real athlete as though he's a fictional character, which isn't allowed.

Argentina will need its description folderized due to awkwardly long length.

(Reposting from ATT)

There are parts of UsefulNotes.Chinese Dialects And Accents that seem to contradict each other or mislead regarding the use of the term "dialect".

But since pan-Chinese nationalism has long sought to reduce the differences among Chinese people, these languages were called "dialects" as a way of implying that they are all varieties of a single language, rather than different languages in their own rights. Originally all these Chinese "dialects" were just dialects of one ancestral Chinese language known as Old Chinese, but they continued to call them dialects even after they became mutually unintelligible.
.
The "dialect" vs "language" debate is not helped by the fact that the Chinese themselves always call the dialect of every province/nation a language, regardless of whether that province/nation actually has a distinct dialect. There is also the issue that the Chinese word that we translate as "dialect" (方言 fāngyán) actually means something slightly different i.e. .

According to the labelnote, the word translated as "dialect" actually has a broader meaning in the original language, which would make this an issue of translation. But the first paragraph implies that the issue with the accuracy of "dialect" lies in the original language(s). In particular, "they continued to call them dialects even after they became mutually unintelligible" implies that they were also calling them "dialects" before they became mutually unintelligible.

If it's referring to what "dialects" were called in the original language(s), then this contradicts the later paragraph about the original term being broader than the English term. If it's referring to what the term was translated to in English, then that also doesn't make sense given the timeframe in question, and is misleading by centering the discussion of meaning on the English translation.

According to Wikipedia

Most Chinese people consider the spoken varieties as one single language because speakers share a common culture and history, as well as a shared national identity and a common written form.[68] To Chinese nationalists, the idea of Chinese as a language family may suggest that the Chinese identity is much more fragmented and disunified than their belief and as such is often looked upon as culturally and politically provocative.

However, the way the Useful Notes page explains this is misleading by conflating it with translation.

What should there be in the useful notes about a country? It is quite a broad topic, easy to go overboard with details.

Someone asked here if UsefulNotes.Game And Watch should instead be classified as a work page. It looks to be primarily about the games released in the series, and has a trope list and multiple subpages.

It sort of straddles the border between a work and a Useful Note, since Game-and-Watches are dedicated console systems that have individual games. Maybe we could split the games?

UsefulNotes.Grammar In Foreign Languages seems a bit disorganised, and notably, someone says, "This troper" once in it.

For every low there is a high.
