This thread is a metathread for Trope Repair Shop discussion. Things like TRS policy, what is needed in a TRS opening post, questions about whether a certain topic is TRS-worthy and questions about why a thread wasn't opened go here.
Some guidelines for when/whether to use TRS:
- If the trope is fine, but has some bad examples, feel free to clean them up or to start a cleanup project at Projects: Short-Term
. Trope Repair Shop is for when cleaning isn't sufficient.
- If you think there's something wrong with the trope that systematically attracts improper examples, start a discussion at Trope Talk. Use a Wick Check to see whether there's an issue present (and if there is, what the issue is), and post the results on TRS Queue and wait your turn if a problem is present. The following methods are two possible ways to do a wick check (though not necessarily the only ways):
- You can go ahead with the Wick Check without a discussion if you know what you're looking for. While it's not mandatory, feel free to ask someone for help confirming that you got the issue and the numbers correct.
- Consult the Wick Check Project thread to collect evidence if you need help.
- If a wick check is too much for you, you can leave the issue at Tropes Needing TRS citing the discussion.
- Depending on a trope (or non-trope) in question, a wick check may be determined to not be required, such as for tropes that are not thriving (per the standards for trope health listed on the Wick page). However, there is no problem if you want to do one anyway.

I fix my examples all the time
I did another wick check for Hurting Hero. The examples either contain context that can be easily replaced with another trope (e.g., Trauma Conga Line) or contain insufficient context. Less than ten wicks contain context on the "hero" part. I know that a TRS thread for Hurting Hero was released before, but got closed before any action could be done. Any way to reopen the Hurting Hero TRS thread without putting it in the TRS Queue?

Berserk Button: misusing Berserk Button
In the Whip It Good TLP, WarJay mentioned prior tropes that went through TRS and still get misuse because we kept the old name and no one bothers to read descriptions to see that anything changed. I am certain this is happening to Knight of Cerebus and Berserk Button, which I attempted to get Fe made but failed because no name got consensus. So what do I do about that?

A wick check has been done for Sandbox.Menacing Megalodon, though I would welcome anyone to review it because my categories are on the broad side. I didn't touch the actual "what to do with it" suggestion summary.

That's a good idea since it's part of the OP, but admittedly, I'm not sure I'm up to any more parts of the task. I haven't been doing many wick checks these days out of some degree of burnout! It's all yours (or anyone else's) to further edit, honestly.
Also thanks for the enlightenment re: the change, that's a fabulous addition!

Maybe I'll do it then when I get a chance. I'll ping Anon when I'm done since this is their thread technically.
I had a wick check for Teens Are Short that's coming up on 2 years old and I never got around to bringing it to TRS. I noticed that a couple of examples fell off (the self demonstrating page under Unsure) or got resolved (the Sophia Lillis example was removed on the creator page).
Would it still make sense to queue it up as is, or perform a new wick check? I can't imagine that the misuse has gotten much better since it was over 80% in 2021.

Funny you mention that, I’d actually pinged you a while back to ask if you still wanted to bring it to TRS.
I think you can just mark the examples that were removed as removed and queue it up.

I mentioned tweaking the TRS thread reasons to the admins, and I figured I might as well post the list publicly since Willbyr has already discussed IP thread reason changes publicly:
- Remove "Snowclone" since it's rarely used these days, and it's redundant with "Ambiguous Name" anyway.
- Make it possible to indicate proposals to move something to/from Trivia or YMMV in one of the following ways (currently, most users usually use "Needs Help" for these proposals, but having something more specific would be nice):
- Replace "Really a Useful Note" with "Miscategorized" (my preferred solution; "Miscategorized" would cover moves to Useful Notes in addition to YMMV and Trivia)
- Keep "Really a Useful Note" while making a separate "Miscategorized" reason
Maybe the following as well:
- Possibly remove "Unclear Description" because problematic descriptions aren't inherently TRS-worthy (we have a cleanup thread for that). If an unclear description is causing misuse, threads for those issues can probably simply use the "Misused" tag.
I'm guessing the reason we don't already have a thread reason for moving to Trivia and YMMV is because those both used to be handled by Projects threads instead of TRS (the former significantly more recently).
