Check out this year’s Gingerbread House for HMH!

It’s a nearly 10 foot tall replica of the mansion itself and some of it’s more prominent residents, and if you look closely you can Actually see some of them disappear and reappear as you move past!

I have a question. A very important question.

Was Toy Story 3 too good for the following Pixar movies of The New '10s to try to match the same height in quality as this film? Because every single Pixar film after Toy Story 3 (save for, maybe, Inside Out) didn't earn as much acclaim as this one, I've heard.

[up][up] It wasn't "too good".

People just had impossibly high expectations after it was released and they wanted every animated movie from Disney/Pixar onwards to be just like it, and were usually disappointed when it wasn't.

I think it's more due to them putting out a lot of sequels with the only new ones besides Inside Out being mediocre.

I liked finding Dory, but monsters university felt unnecessary.

In my opinion, Pixar's best movies since Toy Story 3 have been Inside Out, Finding Dory, Coco, and Toy Story 4. Everything else has either been pretty good but not absolutely fantastic (Incredibles 2, Brave), mediocre and/or at least alright but just not all that memorable (Monsters U., Cars 3), or outright bad (Cars 2, The Good Dinosaur). And I'm saying this without trying to compare any of them to Toy Story 3.

[up] I’d switch Finding Dory & Incredibles 2 and put Monsters University in the Brave tier, but otherwise I agree.

Using that list as a basis I mostly agree except I'd put Monsters University where Finding Dory is, Finding Dory where Brave is, and Brave where Monsters University is (and maybe put Cars 2 in a tier more favorable than the Good Dinosaur but not as high as the next tier up)

Cars 2 gets way too much hate... (A lot of it to do with the fact that people were wanting it to be another Toy Story 3 when it didn't have to be.)

Also, on a different note, I was just looking at the YMMV section for The Tigger Movie and apparently Nostalgia Critic hates the climax of the film. Yeah, he has totally lost all credibility at this point.

I dislike Cars 2 because it's a huge tonal shift. Instead of a straightforward sports movie with Lightning as the protagonist, it's a zany spy comedy with Mater as the protagonist.

@ DrDougsh

That was more like the straw that completely broke the camel's back.

I try to see the best in everyone and everything (my former love for Ducktales 2017 being an example). And truth be told, NC does have his good points — Kung Fu Panda 2 is an Even Better Sequel, hands down.

Not to mention modern Disney being overall less creative and more immature than the Disney from previous decades.

But his irrational hatred of the Cars franchise, the aforementioned ragging on The Tigger Movie, the ho-hum bandwagon hate for the Star Wars prequels, and the way he slams some movies for certain cliches while giving double standards and excusing others for their own cliches just makes him look like a huge moron, in the end.

@ Weirdguy149

Fair enough. There was still a lot of great worldbuilding, though.

(And personally I loved the faster pace, darker tone and higher stakes.)

[up][up]Maybe take the Nostalgia Critic bashing somewhere else?

Not defending him as I'm not particularly a fan of him anymore (nor much of a fan of internet personalities and critics in general these days), but this is kind of off-topic.

[up] Just explaining to someone who was a bit confused about my reasons why.

Besides, this thread is about Disney and Pixar movies in general. And a lot of the aforementioned reviewed movies in question are Disney/Pixar movies.

What Disney movie would be the most interesting if the hero's and villain's roles were reversed?

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).

[up] Treasure Planet. Too many films about Treasure Island just do the straightforward "Jim is Protag, Silver is Antag", a role reversal could be really interesting. Especially with the Character Study of Silver's internal struggle with wanting the Treasure and the bond he's formed with Jim Hawkins. We could also see how Silver's became a Cyborg in his quest for the Treasure, too.
