Creating Franchise Pages Wherever Appropriate

Go To

This thread is for questions regarding creating or cutting pages in Franchise/ namespace and Franchise Index.

As a reminder, being a Series Franchise doesn't mean a Work can have a Franchise/ page. For that it needs existing (not Red Link) and connected (official releases for the same trademark) Work pages in 3 different Mediums, not 3 pages for the same property in general.

If it doesn't meet those criteria, the section about related releases can be on page of the first installment.

Now, I don't know about you, but we don't seem to have that many Franchise pages.

For instance, Video Games. Take a look at this page. I guarantee that we don't even have that many listed in the Franchise namespace.

Also, I set up Franchise pages for Duke Nukem, Deer Hunter, and Grand Theft Auto.

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to list multiple games in a Franchise page as opposed to a Video Game page?

Move approved. If you can create a trope list for the videogame franchise, too, that would be great.

Do works in the public domain qualify for franchise pages?

The War of the Worlds has one, but most of these works are not related or connected in any way beyond being based on the same source material. They all have completely different characters and in some cases completely different plots.

Literally anyone could write a War of the Worlds (or any public domain work) story and have it published, but I don't think they should be considered as part of a singular franchise.

As of now, they are allowed but there is currently a discussion going on to change that. here.

To say they're "allowed" is actually a stretch because I don't think there was ever confirmation that these pages weren't misuse, just that people wanted a place to list these works. But yeah, discussion should take place on that thread.

I'm unsure about Bernice Summerfield. I'm admittedly not super familiar with Doctor Who, but it seems like she's a character from that franchise who's received a few spinoff novels and audio plays. There are no work pages for any of the works that are supposedly part of the franchise.

That said, the Franchise page does note that most of her works were created by a separate publishing company.

[up] Bernice Summerfield is a pseudo-franchise at best. I'm thinking the best option is to split Big Finish Doctor Who and make a Bernice Summerfield page.

Speaking of splitting Big Finish Doctor Who, Torchwood can gain its third medium that way.

Franchise. The Loud House exists when the only works with pages are in WesternAnimation. There are video games linked, but they are Intercompany Crossovers, not specific to the series.

[up] Merge it into the show's page? There's nothing here that can't just be covered there.

I am correct in assuming a work needs three mediums to get a Franchise page? Because I think Dick Tracy fits. It’s got the original comic strip, the animated series, the films, books, radio show, and a TV series.

I am pretty sure that Hotel Transylvania is fine, it also has some pages for Video Games (which you seem to have missed) and it has both Animated Films and Western Animation which was decided a while ago could both be counted even if they are technically the same namespace, there is also a comic book that doesn't have a page so instead of deleting the franchise page why don't we focus on creating a page for the comic book.

Kind of an odd one. While working on tweaking an unrelated entry for CallingYourAttacks.Anime And Manga, I checked to see if Rocky was a Film or a Franchise. Turns out there is a Franchise.Rocky page but, going by the works listed, we only have the Rocky films and a page for one Rocky video game. Looking into it further, I discovered Pinball.Rocky.

Does Pinball work as the third namespace here? If so, then it's just a matter of adding the Pinball game to the Franchise page. If not, I'm not sure what procedure here is but very least it would mean we only have 2/3 namespaces covered on work pages.

Yes, Pinball would count as a third medium.
