Removing complaining, bashing and other negativity from the wiki

Go To

Inspired by this thread, I've noticed that this wiki doesn't have a dedicated cleanup thread for negativity.

As we all know, Complaining About Shows You Don't Like, Creator Bashing and other negativity isn't desired on the wiki, except in a few selected areas like reviews and several Darth Wiki pages (and even then, with limitations). And yet, it's one of the most common sins wiki contributors can make.

So, if you find a page, TLP or discussion whose content seems like a straight-up insult or any other bitching - including complainy soapboxing -, you might ask here for help with removing said content.

The sandbox for this project is located at Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining.

I've seen the meme myself from friends who are people of color and who have defended the Race Lift but still dislike the movie because they're tired of Disney's cynical cashgrab live action remakes with crappy CG animals (the latter of which is their real Berserk Button). I wouldn't doubt that some portion of it is racist bandwagon-hoppers, but it's definitely Natter and also stannish to insist that everyone using the meme is a racist.

on top of that that meme came way before the reboot

hello, i do want to know if this is complaining and opinionating.

Spoilers for Everything Everywhere All at Once

    Spoilers just in case
Expendable Alternate Universe: The film confronts the existential terror of a meaningless and pointless universe head-on, and the lesson it has for dealing with it is: you ignore it. Evelyn learns to ignore the multiverse and just concentrate on enjoying the little things she can in her own life. On top of that, while the Evelyn we see on screen may have a "happy" ending and the Jobu we see may be redeemed, by definition there exists an infinity of Evelyns and Jobus in other universes who are neither happy nor redeemed, but suffer an infinity of horrifying fates. We just don't see them because the film isn't about them. Of course the antidote remains same: just ignore them. Don't think about them; just focus on whatever happiness you can.

my reasoning under the cut:

    Rebuttal
* it isnt 'you ignore it', it's 'focus on fixing what you have'; you can cynically take a negative viewpoint that youre only blocking out problems but that isnt really supported in the film. in fact, the person who capitalizes on it the most, jobu (who is a universe-shifting entity who DOES kill people by imagining their bizarre fates), is defeated
  • on top of that the biggest moral is "just be kind", and evelyn certainly doesnt ignore the problems of the people who arent her: the climax is about her non-lethally pacifying a bunch of multiversal soldiers by fixing the problems they were experiencing in their main universe (unrequited love, back problems, etc)
  • at least two or three evelyns die horribly on screen and at least one commits suicide (albeit it's debatable they were really living in the first place)

Also

    spoiler
Since both Evelyn and jobu are multiversal beings who are supposed to exist in all realities i don't think there would be multiple versions of them, unless theres a multi-multiverse. At the very least its debatable

While exploring some box office analysis, I decided to look at this wiki's page for 80 for Brady and saw this as its only YMMV entry:

  • Tainted by the Preview: Needless to say, anyone who doesn't care about Tom Brady and/or the New England Patriots automatically thought the film was cringy right from the start. Many couldn't believe it was a real product instead of a glorified SNL skit.

All I read with this entry is 'how dare a film called 80 for Brady cater to 80 year old Tom Brady fans'. For what it's worth, the film made $39 million on a $28 million budget, keeping in mind that they did a publicity stunt where virtually all tickets for the film were offered at a generous discount. I think it's fair to say that Tainted by the Preview does not apply to the audience that actually mattered for this film.

Was browsing YMMV.The Legend Of Heroes Trails Into Reverie, and saw a few that I feel like are complain-y, but I would like other opinions:

folder cause there quite a bit
  • Fanon Discontinuity: A large number of players were pissed when Chapter 1 showed that seven members of the SSS, which includes the Ninth Dominion and Yin, somehow couldn't make Simulacrum Rufus struggle while they were on their knees, resulting in claims of the game giving an egregious case of You Can't Thwart Stage One and misreading of the series' power scaling. Considering that this is essentially the same line-up that beat Arios and Sigmund while breaking Arianrhod's helmet, these players tend to either use Fan Wank to figure out how is this even possible, or replace how Crossbell's denied independence went down with their own version of events.
  • Tainted by the Preview: For as many things that got the fanbase excited for Reverie, there were still pieces of news that certain fans weren't all that happy with.
    • Many longtime Trails fans were less than thrilled to see Rean as a protagonist for the fifth game in a row, to the point even fans of his started to think he was being overexposed, even if he isn't the main protagonist this time around. On top of that, his route is considered the most disconnected from the main story (mostly due to not getting to Crossbell until the penultimate chapter), and the lack of party members from arcs outside of Erebonia's (aside from Olivert) didn't help either.
    • Another point that had some people complaining was how Rean's route supposedly consisted of just him and New Class VII as main characters. This lead to claims of the latter getting focused over the rest of Old Class VII for the third time, effectively making them the "true Class VII."note  This negativity is not universal though, as there are people who prefer New Class VII due to thinking that they were generally handled better than their predecessors. This complaint is also lessened by the idea that not being the focus of Rean's route allows Old Class VII to more freely appear in other routes. In the actual main game, they are only marginally more prominent; New Class VII appears together in Chapter 1 of Rean's route, whilst the rest of it uses a combination of New and Old members, with only Alisa and Machias missing out due to being in Lloyd's route.note
    • While the lack of Bonding Points was more or less universally praised, the confirmation that Reverie lets players use a save slot from Cold Steel IV to implement Rean's choice from the fireworks event left some fans groaning at the prospect of Cold Steel's "harem shenanigans" continuing for another game, made worst by the claim of Lloyd and Elie's relationship moving forward. Again though, this is not a universal opinion, as plenty of people are still happy at the idea of their choices carrying over. Come release, and the choice factored in even less than expectednote , with the game opting to instead give each of Rean's 11 suitors one piece of optional dialogue showing their interest in him (If they have a check mark on their name when players first control Rean in his first chapter, they'll have a one-on-one intimate conversation with Rean. If not, then the dialogue is skipped.). What's worse, the news for Lloyd/Elie turned out to be little more than speculation, with all 4 Zero/Azure girls having intimate scenes with him. In the end, the canon status for both Rean and Lloyd is just as ambiguous as before.
    • Some fans were hoping that the gameplay would actually be a bit harder than the previous Cold Steel games due to how easy it was to break the Erebonia arc even on Nightmare difficulty. When the demo was released, fans found out that there are two mechanics that break the game even further than they should: the return of Zero Craft turns, and the new "Valiant Rage" mechanic which translates to "the entire party attacking the enemy using either regular attacks, crafts, or arts and restores 2 BP at the cost of one Assault Gauge". Cue the It's Easy, So It Sucks! cry from the fans.

civetcatcoffee added this to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier:

  • Misaimed Fandom: There's a contingent of fans who like to see homoerotic subtext in Sam and Bucky's interactions and clamor for it to be made more prominent and maybe even advance into romance. This view is missing part of the point of the series that is trying to show that strong friendships are ones where those involved can show emotional vulnerability safe in the knowledge that they'll receive compassion and support.

Sounds like typical "homosexuality is an affront against platonic male friendships" garbage, especially since the show outright engaged in Bait-and-Switch Lesbians.

Forgive me if this is posted in the wrong thread, but the page quote from the Pokémon: The Series episode "The Lost Lapras" is unnecessarily snarky:

The new twerp, Tracey, is a bit of a busybody.

Aside from the quote just bashing the new character, but I could probably locate a better image for the page (since it isn't the first thing people think of regarding the episode, if not just remove it altogether) and it arguably qualifies as Just a Face and A Caption.

If it's just a quote representing the conflict of the episode then is it actually bashy? Granted, knowing the character, it could definitely be covert bashing.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.

Bringing these up from Dino Squad. They are all pretty much just whining about the quality of the show, and some are okay but include some needless whining or snarking.

  • 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: The Toyetic CG vehicles stand out a lot from the low-brow traditional animation of the rest of the show.
  • Artistic License – Paleontology: Suffice to say, everything. In general the show's research on dinosaurs seems to have consisted of watching other dinosaur cartoons.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything??: In one episode, Fiona comes out to her family as a spinosaurus (you read that right), who accept her, after everything, Ms. Moynihan comments on how Fiona is so lucky to have such an accepting family. Complete with a, "Mom, Dad, I'm-"
  • Spinosaurus Versus T. rex: Averted, which is surprising given that the show otherwise shamelessly uses every dinosaur cliche imaginable. Max, who turns into a T. rex, and Fiona, who turns into a Spinosaurus, are good friends.

[up][up]I'm leaning on saying the Does This Remind You of Anything? one isn't complaining, though I feel it could use more context. I'd also cut "low-brow" from 2D Visuals, 3D Effects to remove the complaining and I'd hide Artistic License – Paleontology because it lacks context. The Spinosaurus Versus T. rex entry kinda comes off as an excuse to complain to me, so I'd cut it. Plus, we're generally not supposed to list aversions.

Also found this on the Dino Squad page. It also sounds pretty complainy.

  • Broken Aesop:
    • "Howa Loa Can You Goa" has a really blatant Green Aesop, which gets promptly ignored at the end when the mutant worms that were the Monster of the Week are identified as being native to eastern North America. The heroes are in Hawaii for this episode, and they just let the de-oozed worms go. So apparently introducing exotic species is A-OK, even if you're teaching about saving the environment!
    • In the episode "Tangled Web" the group call Caruso out for lying to them. Unless they've told their parents about how they can transform into dinosaurs and secretly fighting against evil villain, they have no moral high ground.

I feel like both examples lack any real context, but in regards to the latter, a quick look at the episode synopsis makes me want to say that hiding having a Secret Identity from a few people in your personal life is different than actively lying so you can get on national television and reveal everything about you and your friends' superpowers behind their backs, which would let the show's Big Bad find you all with the quickness and thus help speed up his evil plans. Which, skimming through that episode, almost happens.
