@Madrugada, Candi: Thank you, that is exactly my sentiment too. Fixed The Berserker.

Let's just say and leave it at that.

On top of being shorter, the second quote on Lost Technology is also a positive portrayal of the trope; it's being lampshaded that the trope is happening, but it's not laying into why it's a stupid trope (which the first one is). Personal preference is that quotes that say "this is a bad trope and it should feel bad" kinda set the tone for the article, and that all else being equal, positive ones are better.

I don't really like either, but I can't find anything on the page to substitute. And the only two I can think of come from a story where they're useless without context.

Too bad Civ V doesn't have a usable quote -there's a particularly funny mod game where, if you don't have the tech level to handle the Lost Tech, your explorers get toasted.

Searched for quotes... there are some truly wacky 'lost tech of past [place/people]' sites out there.

Suggestion for Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are: It just seems silly not to use the "Warriors... come out and play-ayyyyy!" quote. It's iconic, fitting, and even without context, incredibly clear.

Side note: I hated the movie. But the quote is good.

Conveniently Close Planet and Sci-Fi Writers Have No Sense of Scale have the same quote.

I'd like to keep it on Conveniently Close Planet. It just 'fits' better to me.

For Sci-Fi Writers Have No Sense of Scale, I'd like the first sentence of the Dalek Ix quote:

-> "Seriously, one of the things that is very, very difficult to portray when writing anything involving Space is the truly ridiculous distances involved in anything." —>— Dalek Ix, author of Friends of a Solar Empire, in a blog entry.

Gravity Sucks: Whoever thought having the title to a different trope as the page quote, just... what?

There's a decent (and humorously melodramatic) quote in the entry for The Last Starfighter, I'd suggest that one.

Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are: I prefer the existing Portal quote. I think the fact it's a gun turret talking makes it nice and obvious what Schmuck Bait it is.

Just removed a Discworld quote from Thwarted Coup de Grâce because it didn't illustrate the trope; there's no alternatives listed on the page and no Quotes page, so I don't know if anyone has any suggestions. Maybe something along the lines of;

Villain: [Gloat gloat gloat], [Pre-Mortem One-Liner]
Hero: [Witty retort], kills villain

EDIT: How's this:

Crystal: Well, Haley, looks like this is it. I expected more screaming, but this'll do. Game over, you lose.
Belkar: [tackling Crystal] Last minute field goal!! We're headed to overtime!
Bozzok: Damn it! See, THIS is why you don't take your time killing the heroes!

Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are: I think I like the current quote better, too. The suggested quote would certainly fit on the quotes page, though.

Sci-Fi Writers Have No Sense of Scale: The suggestion works.

Thwarted Coup de Grâce: Suggestion works well.

Harpo Does Something Funny. The current quote doesn't really have any obvious connection to the trope; it seems to be complaining about The Cast Showoff (specifically Robin Williams showing off his voices). I can't see anything better in the examples, but having no quote would be better than that one.

Harpo Does Something Funny: The current quote is only so-so. I am fine with it going away.

It does depict the trope quite well: "that bit in the film where the star just riffs for no particular reason".

It's a little complain-y in tone, but the rest of the description is positive so it's not really a problem; shows the other side of the coin, at least.

Harpo Does Something Funny: Also so-so on it, but I'm going to vote to keep it unless a better replacement can be found. It's not so complainy that it justifies an insta-pull, to my mind, anyway.

No consensus has been reached on Pun. Given the rather even divide on the current quotes, and that no one seems to have a strong attachment to either, I'm looking for a totally new quote.

[up] Yeah. I'm assuming that the context gives the tropes, but you shouldn't have to assume context for the page quote to make sense. I'd say pull it.

I don't think its even an example of the trope. Description claims it's about police interrogations, yet there are several examples (inevitably) of the Stock Phrase being used in any other context.

Shame, because the wider scenario probably is tropable... but that's getting rather off-topic for this thread.

"Let me at 'em!" always makes me think of Scrappy-Doo first, and an interrogation (not just police ones) third or fourth.

And that is a bad quote on the page. In my opinion, a quote should at least put you on the same street of thinking about the trope.

Harpo Does Something Funny quote -meh. Useful until something better comes along.

Pulling Let Me at Him!.

Psycho Lesbian: Um. So, formatting issues aside, it doesn't really fit the trope too well.
