So. Personal opinions on the main wiki aren't allowed, be they gushing or bashing. Now, bashing gets tolerated even less than gushing, and that makes sense; it leads to more flamewars.
But that doesn't mean we have to live with all the gushing either. This thread can serve as a center for keeping it in check. One function might be to alert people to pages that are really heavy in gushing, to the point that it's not just a quick fix and will need some assistance.
I rewrote the Tetris Effect description again to be even less gushy. Is it sufficient?
Is gushing allowed in Haikus? Haiku. The Loud House has "Nick redeemed themselves" and Haiku.Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated describes it as "the best" Scooby-Doo series.
For every low there is a high.I'm inclined to say no. Especially that first one is also kind of backhanded.
Today I Die has had a gushy description for ages.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Just cut that whole blurb up to "Need a tissue?" unless it's a deliberate reference to the game or something. All that white space is also pretty annoying.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Did so!
The Protomen enhanced my life.Cancelling my hiatus early to bring up these examples I wrote a while ago for Genre Turning Point:
- The Beastie Boys further changed Hip-Hop with their 1989 sophomore album Paul's Boutique. Initially selling poorly and receiving a lukewarm reception from fans due to how different it was from its predecessor, the album grew in critical acclaim as the years went on and is now seen as a contributor in the development and explosion of sampling in Hip-Hop with its use of samples to create a lush, borderline psychedelic sound to back up the Beasties' rapping. Today, the album is considered to be a hip-hop masterpiece and one of the best albums the Beastie Boys have ever made, and a stunning example of what was possible with sampling in Hip-Hop before its use was restricted following a 1991 court ruling mentioned below.
- Speaking of Aphex Twin, his 1992 debut album Selected Ambient Works 85-92 contributed further to the development of IDM, as explained in this article. Its distinctive mix of calming Ambient music with a foreboding creepiness created a sound that, as described by the aforementioned article, made it more electronic than previous ambient albums such as The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld or Chill Out by The KLF. This unique sound would later influence other acts in the IDM genre, and the album is today seen as one of the best Electronic Music albums of the entire 1990's, one which launched the long, successful, and innovative career of Aphex Twin.
I think I may have made them too gushy when I wrote them. Help with making them less gushy?
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallBringing this up again: The current description for Calvin and Hobbes goes really overboard in terms of gushing. I LOVE the strip too, but by the wiki's standards it does feel too far.

I would say, cut the part about it being THE most successful comic strip of all time, and maybe also the paragraph about everyone trying to copy Peanuts. Also, the image caption is a bit too gushy, but that should be taken to the Caption Repair Thread.

My favorite sci fi enemies are the giant sexy depressed womenAny thoughts on the entries I brought up? Or should I try to rewrite them myself?
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI went to check in on the pre-release troping for Balan Wonderworld, and it looks like Falsefortuneteller is getting rather defensive of the game. Noticeably, they removed a reference to some of the game's power-ups disabling jumping while calling it a complaint, despite the wording being pretty objective. They also altered the Tainted by the Preview on the YMMV page to blame players for not being okay with the design choice due to a more intuitive design choice not technically being indicated in previous trailers, along side a rather rude edit reason. I sent a rudeness notifier, but there's a good chance our timezones won't line up for me to see them respond right away.
SoundCloudI know that's the point of Sugar Wiki pages, but the description for AwesomeMusic.Friday Night Funkin feels like a bit too much:
It's so awesome that it's even inspired many creators who make mods for the game to write their own music.
Surprisingly, Sanjay and Craig is quite gushy, calling the show "extremely underrated" and ranting about the show's negative reception near the end of the description.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.I noticed this paragraph in Astro Boy: Omega Factor is kind of stealth gushy, but also stealth complainy at the end:
Despite excellent reviews, this game was mostly passed over for the Playstation 2 game developed by Sonic Team and this fell into obscurity. However, those who did play the game loved it. The Astro Boy game for the Nintendo DS based on the American CGI film is inspired by this one, but unfortunately, it is widely considered to be inferior in every aspect.
Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!Work reception shouldn't go on the description so that whole thing can be cut.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Is the "face-meltingly awesome" part of Starbomb's description a reference to something or just editorializing?
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.A quick google search turned up just that page, so it can safely be cut.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Seems like MLPFIM qualifies for this project.
"Listen up, Marina, because this is SUPER important. Whatever you do, don't eat th“ “DON'T EAT WHAT?! Your text box ran out of space!”MLP has its own dedicated cleanup thread.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Creator.Don Rosa can get really gushy at times, especially in the description. Examples: "Widely regarded as one of the best things that ever happened to Disney comics", "had executive power over the Duck family canon, and brought the world some seriously great Arc Welding in the process", "For those who consider Disney comics childish stories for five-year-olds, Rosa's style of making comics may be a surprise". Also a "cue Tear Jerker" line after mentioning the post announcing his retirement from comics, which I just removed.
Edited by harryhenry on Feb 20th 2021 at 8:29:08 AM
I mean, it's not wrong. He was absolutely transformative for Duck comics. He did effectively have executive power over Duck canon, and many, if not most artists still look to tie their work into his canon specifically. And his work did involve some serious arc welding of previous material, mainly Barks' work, who laid the groundwork for the Duck universe. And yes, I would say Rosa is a great example of how comics, and Duck comics in particular, can be more than just childish stories for small kids that adults can enjoy just as much.
Sometimes, the praise really is justified.
Optimism is a duty.It sounds more like a review and less like an article, though.
Jawbreakers on sale for 99¢To be clear, I'm not disputing his achievements. But there's a difference between just stating his influence and going into outright gushing, like the current page does. There are some prominent Duck comic fans who hate his influence on the series, and the page itself notes that even Carl Barks thought Rosa went too far with that Arc Welding you mention. I obviously don't wanna turn the page into an outright bash-fest, but I think toning that gushing down would be the right approach.

Yes, that's true, you can tone it down a bit.
Optimism is a duty.
Cleaned up the main description and YMMV page for Labyrinth, and ditched the quote. Does that look better?
We should find a better fitting quote, though.
