Social links with all the princesses.

Recruiting a goomba that's trying to murder you by having a bracing conversation with it.

Rebelling against and eventually killing god.

Probably not that first one unless its a Persona-esque Mario game, which wouldn't be too out of place, but those other ones are very likely.

Mario has a lot of attractive ladies.

But personally, i'd be interested to see how they would handle recruiting the enemeies.

Wasn't there a Puzzle and Dragons DS game with mario recruiting traditional enemies? Wonder how it worked there. Too bad nobody played it.

[up] Legit would really enjoy that.

Returning to a topic of a new possible 2D Mario game. I think taking a page from Mega Man particularly games like Mega Man 7 and Mega Man 8 would be interesting. Those games have an intro stage that once completed would require you to complete 4 stages that the player could complete in any order. After those 4 stages are completed, the player would enter a stage which upon completion gives you 4 stages that would be harder before going through Dr. Wilyโ€™s Castle.

If a 2D Mario were to do a Mega Man style game. I could see be done like this.

You would start with Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad. With the exception of the last three worlds and the first one each world completed gets you a new character to play as.

The first world has you go through Mushroom Plains. Mushroom Plains starts off in the towns where more people live. This would be before. Some Goombas and Koopas are there causing trouble for the residents. The later half of the world could have you go into a more traditional plains area.

After defeating Goomboss and thus completing that world you have the option of going through either...

After completing those worlds you would go through Diamond City from WarioWare to fight Fawful who has been hired by Bowser to handle inventions. Wario would join to help Mario and the gang.

When itโ€™s been found out that the Koopa Kingdom is being protected by a forcefield. Mario and the gang are stumped on how to get through it. Thankfully Wario has gotten info from Fawful where the keys to the barrier are. Now Mario and friends must venture through...

  • Cosmic Clouds to fight Sir Grodus who has Rosalina as his prisoner
  • DK Island to defeat King K. Rool who has been keeping Diddy Kong as a slave
  • Sarasaland which has Tatanga control the area and has Waluigi being kept hostage.
  • Yoshi Island where Kammy has been training troops and has Birdo join you.

When the barrier is finally broken. You go through the final worlds

  • Crystal Caverns - An underground tunnel full of crystals and the exit would be guarded by Midbus.
  • Koopa Industries - Bowserโ€™s personal factory for building weapons for his army. General Guy appears as the guy you need to defeat.
  • Bowserโ€™s Domain - A heavily fortified area with Boos patrolling the area. Bowser would be your final challenge.

A game of this scope will never happen, but the level order described would be possibly done that way. It could make a great game for when Super Mario Bros turns 40 in 2025.

Someone found a crazy secret regarding two of the most signature tunes of the Super Mario series.

The mushroom power-up sound effect is a super sped-up version of the tune that plays when you clear a level!

What about the sound when you get hit? Is there a secret when you slow it down?

[up][up] I dunno, but a hilarious sound plays if you corrupt the game and jump.

That does bring up an interesting question of what kind of spin-off game would work well for Peach to be the star of that's not covered by other characters?

-Luigi has the exploratory adventure series

-DK with the kinetic, more difficult platformers

-Yoshi going for the slower, more collection based platform title

-Toad seemingly doing the action puzzle genre

-Wario apparently shifting towards the mini-game collection

Would be amusing if they did make another Peach game and defied expectations via making the first Mario beat em up.

[up] Well gotta explain why the exchange rate between the Mushroom Kingdom and Bean Bean kingdom is so bad.

I like the idea of Peach being ditzy in regular life but extremely competent at politics and management.

Returning to a topic of a new possible 2D Mario game.

I was just thinking that we're due for a new NSMB. There's been a new one (or a port) for every system for a while, except the Switch.

Edit: Oh, wait, NSMBU had a port on the Switch. NVM.
