With the undiscriminating thread-purge, it seems many of the 'in a few sentences' threads were lost as well... I found them quite interesting and helpful, so I'm going to try to recreate the ones I remember.

So, I believe this was the first one created! Describe your world in a few sentences, please!

See here (second half of the post). The planet revolves around some kind of variable star. I thought I needed a single large moon, like Earth's, but apparently not so, so that's another thing in the TBD-category. smile

Do thread purges happen regularly, or was the one a few weeks ago unexpected?

I have 4 settings that are pretty developed (altho for two of them I haven't really though up any stories set in them).

The world in Forgotten Lore is an alternate Earth. It's mostly the same as ours, but there are stuff like magic and other planes of existance, they interact with the "normal" world so rarely most people are completely unaware they exist. It also has a slight Cosmic Horror theme goign on, with there being eldritch beings sleeping in the dark place sof the world, waiting for the stars to be right, and other beings, some even more terrifying, living in the void outside the universe.

The Netherworld (setting of Zaran il Legio) is another plane of existance populated by, among other things, demons (technically they're not mythical demons but rather creatures that just happen to look like what most people think demons look like, and likely were the inspiration for those myths). The Netherworld was at one point ruled over by the king of demons, but today it is split into seven Legions (originally armies headed by the demon king's subordinates but nowadays functioning like countries), each lead by an Overlord who all want to become the new king/queen.

Farallon was at some point a more traditional fantasy world and generally unremarkable place, exept for the fact that inside the world incubated a larvae of one of the Gods of the Outer Void. When the time of it's hatching was near, the malevolent forces from beyond manipulated the elven civilisation into helping to release it by giving them knowlege of very powerful magic that had the side effect of weakening the fabric of relity. The world would've been completely destroyed, had the elves not managed to close the largest of the rifts. However the damage was already done. The elven civilsation was in ruins, the fabric of reality was permanently damaged and horrible things from beyond the void now seep into the world. The Inhabitants of Farallon must try to survive and stop the Eldritch Abomination trying to force it's way out from the core of the world lest the entire world be destroyed.

The last setting is an unnamed science fiction universe that is pretty unremarkable for most part. The main plot is about the Union of Human Colonies (former Terran Federation, but it went through a civil war) being locked in a cold war with Imperium of Deimosis, a large alien empire that has recently expanded into the area of space inhabited by humans (and some other alien species). There are also some Sufficiently Advanced Aliens (sufficiently advanced to be considered eldritch abominations) involved, but they (or rather, it) spend most of their time observing the events, probably plotting something nasty.

My world is a Massive Multiplayer Crossover of all fiction plus our Earth. Within the multiverse is a Cold War between three major powers known as The Alliance, The Horde, and a race of giant cicada-like aliens known as The Swarm.

Fantasy realm with elves, dwarves, humans, giants, dragons, etc. Also an original race I created, called the sky men. Humans are divided into three warring kingdoms, each with "normal" humans as second class citizens magic users. Religion is a HUGE deal for everyone, and the gods don't really get along. The Elves are isolationist zealots, the Dwarves are secretive and angry as much of their race was sacrificed to prevent the apocalypse (which also forced them out of their mountains) The Sky men are aggressively expanding into human territory, and the human kingdoms stand at the brink of revolution.

One is a fantasy world where humans don't get far beyond very simple technology, and are all pre-pottery cultures and there are no more than three cities/villages in the world. Humans were preceeded by Elves, Orcs, and Dwarves, but they died out in a disaster, and afterwards humans came about. The world is flat, consisting of an island in the middle of and endless ocean. There are gods, the non-physical Creator, and the physical Seraphim that act as maintainers of the world (move the sun, make the tides, etc).

The other is aliens abducted a number of humans from Earth around 20-10 thousand years ago and transplanted them to another planet, leaving no trace of their involvment. Humanity develops on this new world from hunter-gatherer bands and tribes to a space faring civilization, eventually encountering Earth. Most of the focus is on an empire that develops on the eastern portion of the northern continent and the nations that rise in the area after the empire falls.

My project right now is set on a world where there are a few superheroes (called in-universe More than Human or Mi T Hs) and a lot of mutants (called 'ex-men' because once they develop powers they're no longer counted as human). It generally sucks to be an ex-men.

It doesn't have an official name. I call it Onoverse, a contraction of universe and Onomatopoeia(which is one of the screen names I use).

Past is magic and gods —> Götterdämmerung —> Present is superheroes.

Because I have a billion + projects floating around in my head we have;

Lann - basically modern Earth only one where war is an actual, legal and respected business.

Renirt - a post-apocalyptic fantasy world where everyone is basically just trying to survive. It is not a Death World, and the apocalypse was a purposely vague magical calamity no one understands. Except me.

Pilif - a flat world with pirates and lots of imperialists.

Earth - a planet inhabited by some six billion humans being. Takes place in the city of Seattle in the state of Washington in the country known to English speaking humans as the United States of America.

My story takes place in a 20-mins into the future world where political tensions are high. The UN has been disbanded and first world nations have pretty much withdrawn entirely from the third world. South America's become a cluster of constantly-changing dicatorships, Africa's a lawless warzone, and the region of South East Asia is mostly organized crime-run. No first world nation wants to intervene in affairs, so they mostly rely on mercenary companies to fight proxy wars and depose various dictators and warlords that fuck up the status quo.

Yeah, maybe not really the most creative of settings, but it works.

A fantasy world which may or may not be a Lost Colony. No elves at this point; the dwarves are short and tough, but far from stocky (it's all because of, you know, poor nutrition and living underground). There is The Empire, which gets the main focus, and is made of a loose mix of Imperial Chinese, Roman and Renaissance European elements, with some more cases of Fantasy Counterpart Culture internally and abroad. Magic and magical creatures exist, but at this point I intend them to be rather low grade — for example, one of the magic branches is mostly math with good PR campaign.

Planet Inspiration, a world for Animated Actors when they're off duty. There are only three rules: 1) The plot must be kept up and running 2) If things get too boring, something will come out of nowhere to make it interesting again and 3) Anything is possible, if you only suspend your disbelief. Has various "districts" based on different genres (e.g. the High School District, the Horror District, etc.)

The easiest way to explain how my world works is thus: Take the fundamental premise behind the Land of Ooo in Adventure Time - an (unwittingly) post-apocalyptic oddball wonderland peopled with bizarre creatures and littered with stray traces of past technology as well as Functional Magic - and, instead of playing it for comedy, play it straight.

Upon doing this, the implications of such a world become quite unsettling. They also make for some extremely interesting story possibilities.

Several centuries from now, tensions are reaching a breaking point between several omnipresent megacorporations thirsting for political power and the oppressive, paranoid African Solar Empire, whose rule spans across hundreds of worlds. The corporations are on the verge of seceding and forming corporate states, the people are disillusioned and disgruntled and revolting every now and then, and the ASE is close to all-out war with the corps. The fragile situation, if disturbed, could completely destabilize human civilization in my setting, which blends cyberpunk, biopunk, military science fiction, space opera, and cosmic horror into a unique and (hopefully) coherent package.

This world is a dream. The whole premise is that subconscious dream symbols have gained minds of their own, and put the Dreamer, or "God" of this verse, into an endless sleep. They go into hiding while the Dreamer unknowingly populates the world with creatures. Civilization and many races abound. Of course, all it takes is one crazy asshole (perhaps some religious fundamentalist yearning for the apocalypse) to wake up the Dreamer, and the world comes unraveling apart...

Also, the world(s) are on the insides of spheres. The center is where the Dreamer lies. Of course, since the dream-verse is constantly gaining new "shells" and may have an endless number of them, we have no idea if we can ever see the Dreamer. Oh, and these "shells" are connected by wormholes. Each shell has a different environment.

Does this make sense, or am I just talking nonsense?

A Science-Fantasy Kitchen Sink set in the distant future, following the near extinction of the human race and thousands of years of recovery, in a society with technology levels similar to those of the twentieth century, and as the planet enters into a period of rapid global cooling.

Iris Inn's setting is in a world much like our own, with modern conveniences and culture. But the island that the story is set on is a Fantasy Kitchen Sink of magic, ghosts, myths, and the supernatural. [[Kemonomimi]] people are common, such as part-rat, part-dog, part-horse, etc., and are not considered a part of the strange and supernatural elements of the island. Sorcery, witchcraft, shamans, etc. do exist, and are aware of magic and the supernatural, but are rare, few, and often seen as crazy or strange by 'normies'.
