Kory: i will need to do some more testing to see if the 500KB should be lowered even more but either way everyone can relax because the database will not crash or implode in anyway due to page size so splitting pages isn't a huge priority and is just more of a suggestion. For pages that actually load slow, splitting the pages will help slower internet users navigate these pages better.

     Eddie's old post
Looks like we have a big page lock coming. Big in the sense of many pages and big in the sense that the pages to be locked are too big.

It looks like pages over 500,000 characters (html formatted, that is) are crashing the server when someone tries to edit them. programmer's whine

They need to be fixed, anyway. Way too big for one page. They need to be broken up into subpages of a reasonable size.

I'm trying to get better about communicating before big changes, so we'll let this one run for a while before taking the action. The server crashes do come under the heading of 'urgent', though.

I'll do Funny.TV Tropes, if you don't mind. Suggestion: One page for the various "examples" folders, one for the rest.

And another suggestion: Using an editor that counts the bytes of your text helps with this work. For Windows, there's the free program Notepad++.

Much as I can't stand the fanbase, I'll try WMG.Doctor Who With Spoilers.

Noticed that Funny.Atop The Fourth Wall went past 400000 characters, so I split it into years, like The Nostalgia Critic's had been done.

I now go by Graf von Tirol.

Characters. The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim needs splitting ASAP; it's 700553 characters long. I'm not confident to do it myself.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

Eddie-san, it's been a month since the last list. Can we get an update?

General politeness; very roughly equivalent to Mr Eddie. Eddie-chan would be rather different and I wouldn't like to see his reaction! wink

Archive.Lost And Found ought to be locked or cut. I prefer the former as it keeps some info for reading.

I also notice a lot of Headscratchers and WMG pages are on there. Might be a point to move them to formats that are more suited for their purpose (as is being discussed in Wiki Talk for headscratchers)

Still haven't given up just yet on the Doctor Who WMGs.

Five-Man Band.Other is a little...what with some categories, but I'll at least split it off for pages for types of media there.

Purging misuse on Five-Man Band.Other might be a more appropriate action than splitting it. We have a separate special efforts thread for getting rid of the many, many, many incorrect, shoehorned examples of that trope.

Oh, damn. Sorry. Was only looking at the list.

As the two hidden Mass Effect 2 characters have a LOT of tropes to their name, would it be fair to split it into the "main party members" and "hidden party members"? Or would that still leave the first page too large?

I can split Characters.Friendship Is Magic-Background Ponies, but does anyone have some good suggestions on the way to split it?

Also, Characters.Castlevania is over 320K characters. Would it be a good idea to split that now, or wait?

This didn't exceed 400000, but I rearranged the Fallout: New Vegas trope lists. IIRC, Tropes A to L had more than 360000 characters.

I now go by Graf von Tirol.
