YMMV / Voltes V Versus Voltron The Godaikin Wars

• Alternate Character Interpretation: Some view Paul the Imjad as an Arab because of his name (Imjad is a city in Morocco).
• Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Keith, Hunk and various members of the Galaxy Alliance screaming anti-Asian slurs and calling the Voltes Team "The Voltes G**ks". The chapters leading up to this moment never mentioned anything about race. In later chapters, one Team Voltron member starts screaming about how the Japanese are "monkeys" and need to be eradicated, while making fun of them for the practice of seppuku.
• Designated Hero: Big Falcon and the Voltes Team. They start the whole conflict by shooting at Team Voltron and the Galactic Alliance after accusing them of being "space invaders" with no evidence. They also never give them a chance to explain themselves and clear their names. Though later it was revealed that Team Voltron are indeed villainous, Big Falcon had no way of knowing that.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Keith being a racist who screams racial slurs at Asians. In Voltron: Legendary Defender, it's revealed that Keith is half-Galran and an arc is dedicated to the racism he faces because of it.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: The fic seems to eerily predict Romelle's characterization in Voltron: Legendary Defender.
  • Romelle states that Paul the Imjad is a villain and no one should trust him, but no one believes her until it's too late. Come Voltron: Legendary Defender, released 12 years after this fanfiction ended, Romelle calls out Lotor for being a Devil in Plain Sight and exposes his true nature to Allura and Team Voltron, and they also don't believe her at first until they see his villainy with their own eyes.
  • Romelle is also an Audience Surrogate who delivers loads of infodumps to the reader. She does the same thing at the start of VLD's Season Seven.
  • Also, the fic insinuates many times that Voltron is a rip-off of Voltes V. While your opinion may vary on that, reboot series Voltron Legendary Defender does make a reference to Voltes V when Keith is revealed to be half-Galra - a nod to protagonist Kenichi being half-Boazanian.
• So Bad, It's Good: One of the only English language Voltes V fanfics on the Net is an eighty-four chapter of what appears to be an angry Voltes V fanboy's treatise on his irrational hatred for Voltron. With the superficial premise of a villain named Paul the Imjad stealing the Galaxy Alliance's "Encyclopedia Universale" microfilm and framing the Voltes team for it; both villain and microfilm were completely forgotten in favor of Voltron having sound effect-laden battles with Voltes V, as well as Combattler V, Daimos, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman and even Space Sheriff Shaider, and gets its ass handed to it every time. The Voltron Team's canon heroic personalities were all thrown out of the window and replaced with straw Jerkass and Straw Loser attributes in an attempt of the author to discredit them, but it's all to anviliciously drive the point that Voltron is absolute crap and is not deserving of all the attention. Add the Rouge Angles of Satin, blatant plagiarism ^note Apparently, the author thought that making Keith recite the lines of Voltes V's villain Prince Heinel is a good idea., outright Flanderization ^note The most egregious example would be Prof. Sakunji's Sadist Teacher Jerkass tendencies cranked to the next level., and the rather amusing posturing of the author in response to the angry Voltron fans (just read his "answer" to said Voltron fan here); and we get an epic Fan Wank of the highest order.
• Tearjerker: Romelle and Sven being punished and executed for trying to make peace with Boazania. The two were the only likable characters of the fic and lost their lives trying to do the right thing.
• Unintentionally Sympathetic: Even if you prefer Voltes V, it's hard not to feel sad for Voltron, who were falsely accused of being mass murderers and invaders, shot at relentlessly and never given a chance to clear their name. The author probably realized this, which is why in the later chapters of the fic Keith and Hunk begin screaming slurs at Asians all of a sudden.
• The Woobie: Princess Allura during the Daimos arc (Chapters 40-50). She loses her memories and ends up on the shores of Daimovic. Everyone is initially kind to her until they realize her suit means that she's with Team Voltron, and then they began interrogating her and treating her like a criminal. This is all while the poor girl's amnesiac and has no idea what's going on.
