As per Wiki Policy, all spoilers are unmarked. You Have Been Warned.

  • Anti-Climax Boss:
    • Neil's crime is built up to be a dark reveal, with several hints mentioning ominously how "he is not so innocent" and himself becoming a detective in order to atone for his "horrible crime". Cue Chapter 4 and we learn that albeit Neil possibly could have saved the two girls from his uncle if he acted differently, he in fact did nothing wrong.
    • Also Neil's reason for going against Black Gear is implied to be related to his crime. He doesn’t really lie about it, but with him misinterpreted his own helplessness as a "crime", the resentment actually comes from Black Gear’s elimination of his uncle before he could bring him to justice. His "vigilantes are bad, police is good" morality doesn’t help much.
    • The Black Gear organization don't really put up a fight. After Luna escapes the Midnight Express, they're quickly curb-stomped by her and arrested by the police, with only Justice II and Purity getting away with everything. They do expect getting caught sooner or later, though.
  • Awesome Music: There are a few genuinely impressive tracks. The best ones are composed by Connor O. R. T. Linning.
  • Fridge Brilliance:
    • The reason Neil dresses in a sharp and stylish manner, to the point Apollo initially believed he was a rich guy at first. When he stayed with his uncle, he didn’t have any new clothes and instead had to patch up the rags for something to change into everyday - dressing up nicely seems like the best way conceal that memory.
    • Apollo constantly makes fun of Neil, but after his breakdown at having to parkour some bookshelves, believing he's too useless to do that, Apollo suddenly becomes more patient and understanding with him. It's later revealed Apollo had an abusive parental figure just like Neil, so of course he recognized the signs of a fellow mistreated child.
    • The way figures of Diana, Selene and Apollo are displayed in Chapter 4 is similar to types of Public Execution in our proper history.
      • Selene is shown to be hanged. Hanging is a common execution method, with the number of crimes punished by it rose to about 200, which obviously includes thievery. Even committing what we would call minor offenses such as picking pockets or stealing food could also be passed this death sentence, both of which Selene committed during her time in and out the orphanage.
      • Diana is burned at the stake. Making up various medicines and conducting illegal experiments is a very surefire way to get yourself convicted of witchcraft in the old time, and in fiction those who committed that are commonly sentenced to incineration.
    • Selene’s insensitivity and rudeness towards Neil seem to be unfortunate unrefined character quirks that end up making her Unintentionally Unsympathetic to some people, but it makes more sense once you look at her backstory. Unlike others who were brought up like normal kids until whatever tragedy befell them, she was abandoned as an infant and the orphanage she lived in couldn’t manage to afford enough foods for the children under its roof, let alone caring about their mental development. Oh, she was also isolated in a horrific murderous building for 3 years straight at 16 years old, with her only contacts with people would be those who use her to their own end or distrust her and naturally, neither would want to establish a proper conversation. Not to say that her behavior is right, but one can’t really blame her for lacking in social etiquette and/or being unable to realize how rude she is when she is never educated about them in the first place.
  • Fridge Horror:
    • What would happen to Neil or Luna if another died? Since they rely on each other’s ability to get through the building’s various puzzles and dangers, it wouldn’t take long before they died in traps or missed the train, but the emotional distress is awful no matter how you look at it. Both of them survived the death of loved ones and harbor severe Guilt Complex as a result, so there’s no doubt they could act impulsively...
    • What does the Train consider a crime? You could end up trapped in an otherworldly prison for so little as calling somebody names.
  • He's Just Hiding: Many fans didn't believe Apollo actually died at the beginning of Chapter 2. The reveal that all the characters are trapped in a Prison Dimension, fueling the possibility that he survived. Chapter 4 reveals he survived, but lost an eye.
  • Shocking Moments:
    • Chapter 2. Anyone can die, with Apollo seemingly being killed and reduced to an eye for breaking the rules.
    • Chapter 3. All the characters are trapped in a Prison Dimension.
    • Chapter 4. Black Gear truly never wanted to kill the criminals trapped in the Midnight Express, it was all a glitch.
  • That One Puzzle: Not that it even qualifies as a puzzle but the QTE sequence in 3rd chapter where Selena used her smoke bombs, comes completely out of nowhere and is infernally tedious to beat. You have to press keys in order faux-DDR style in an incredibly short timespan and if you mess so much as once, it's Game Over and into the main menu with you. Did we mention, that the sequence has 5 phases and no checkpoints? A single mistake at the final phase forces you to to reload and start all over. It comes back again when Luna is fighting her doppelgänger. You're going to wreck your keyboard doing this.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Selene, to some fans. She was clearly intended to be a Jerk with a Heart of Gold, and given the situation that she is in, we're clearly meant to sympathize with her. However, she spends so much of the story being obnoxious and rude to Neil, with her nicer moments being reserved to Luna only. Not to mention she's often belittling him and calling him pathetic (which becomes Harsher in Hindsight when Neil's past as an abused child is revealed in Chapter 4). Even Apollo started treating Neil much nicer when he realized that his low self-steem comes from past abuse, Selene never does.
  • The Woobie: Almost everyone in this game is pitiful in one way or another.
