YMMV / Mandy Rose

Go To

  • Les Yay: She and Sonya Deville grew awfully touchy-feely with each other in the early summer of 2019. Sonya even voluntarily gave up her spot in the Women's Money in the Bank ladder match for Mandy. There was also one episode of SmackDown where, after Sonya defeated Ember Moon and Mandy was celebrating with Sonya, the two got very close to each other, to the point that the day after there were several comments online of people who were genuinely expecting them to kiss.note
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap:
    • Amanda wasn't very well-liked by fans during her appearances on Tough Enough due to being yet another blonde model with no experience, calling Sara Lee a "ring rat" (though it was later revealed to be Kayfabe) and being an Elimination Houdini that was favored by The Miz solely for her looks despite often placing last in fan votes, resulting in her being negatively compared to Eva Marie. Once she started appearing on NXT TV, she gained some supporters because A) she actually seems serious about wrestling since she spent over a year working NXT house shows to improve her ability and B) while she's by no means amazing, she can already wrestle circles around the woman she's often compared to.
    • After she got called up to the main roster, nobody really cared about Mandy for quite some time, as she didn't really get any interesting stories. Then in late 2019, she began to interact with the lovable Otis of Heavy Machinery and the story caught on with the fans, culminating in a glorious payoff at WrestleMania 36 where the two of them finally ended up getting together after she helped him defeat a meddling Dolph Ziggler.
    • After essentially spinning her wheels in a tag team with Dana Brooke, she made a return reminiscent of her identical stranger Trish Stratus on the July 14th edition of WWE NXT. And it didn't take long for her to make an impact as she formed heel alpha bitch power trio Toxic Attraction with new arrivals Gigi Dolin (formerly known by her real name Priscilla Kelly) and Jacy Jayne and finally won her first championship at NXT Halloween Havoc, winning the NXT Women's Championship and holding it for 413 days.
  • Spiritual Successor:
    • Despite her resemblance to Trish Stratus, more than a few fans have called her "a better version of Eva Marie." Both women are former models who came into WWE through reality shows (Eva through Total Divas, Mandy through WWE Tough Enough). The reason why Mandy is the "better" version is because, unlike Eva, who was put on the main roster almost immediately with minimal training and subsequently became one of the most hated wrestlers in the company, she spent a year training and working NXT house shows before her TV debut, and her ring work is at least decent. The fact that she and Eva were quite friendly with each other on Total Divas, she debuted shortly after Eva was called up, Eva's last gimmick before her departure of aggressively drawing on her physical attractiveness being similar to Mandy's later gimmick, and Corey Graves' first reaction to her, only heighten the comparison.
Corey Graves: I'll tell you what, at this point Mandy Rose is runner up to only one thing in my life: Eva Marie. Beyond that, that's it.
      Tom Phillips: Oh no.
    • She could be considered one to Summer Rae, given her long blonde hair and frequent use of gold ring gear. She uses lots of kicks, and one of Summer's signature moves was a spinning heel kick. What's more is that Paige introduced Mandy to the main roster, and Summer had been one of Paige's closest friends behind the scenes.
  • Squick: It's not her fault, but listening to Corey Graves drooling over her at every opportunity is a complete chore. In-universe, even the rest of the commentary team have grown bitter about how inappropriate he is towards her.
  • Unexpected Character: Considering that she hadn't appeared on NXT TV in well over a year, few expected her to be called up to the main roster, along with Sonya Deville to be the lackeys of a returning Paige.
