YMMV / DC League of Super-Pets

Go To

  • And You Thought It Would Fail: At the time the trailers were being released, it was met mostly with mixed-to-negative reactions from audiences for its humor (especially considering the overly long scene where Ace pees in the fountain), changing the line-up, and to a lesser extent Ace changing species and personality, with many believing the movie would at best receive mixed reviews; when the film released, people were actually surprised that the movie received positive reviews from both critics and audiences.
  • Creepy Cute: Whiskers is an adorable little kitten, but her sheer destructive power and the contrast between her cheerful, childlike glee and the fact that said glee is used to express her intention to horribly kill the Super-Pets make her really unsettling.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • The film's versions of Superman and Lois Lane have been praised by DCU fans for being near pitch-perfect renditions of the characters, to where many want a movie directly focused on them. Being played by the very popular John Krasinski and Olivia Wilde certainly helps.
    • Batman. Voiced by Keanu Reeves. Enough said.
  • Just Here for Godzilla:
    • Many people were hyped for the film based solely on one element: Keanu Reeves as Batman.
    • Many Looney Tunes fans went to see the film for the Bugs Bunny short "Sick As A Hare" which played in front of the film in some theaters.
    • Many Swifties went to the film purely to catch their first listen of "Bad Blood (Taylor's Version)". Those same Swifties were very pleased to hear "Message In A Bottle (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault)" during the credits.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • A number of fans have compared Lex Luthor's character design to an adult version of The Boss Baby.note
    • Due to some of the posters having Dwayne Johnson's name be several times larger than the title, some have taken to jokingly acting as if the movie actually is called "Dwayne Johnson".
  • Nightmare Fuel: Whiskers, full stop. She’s a Walking Armory who takes sadistic glee in trying to murder the Super-Pets, all while speaking in a very creepy child-like voice. Her scene is pretty much ripped straight from a horror movie.
  • Squick: The scene where Ace pees in the fountain while Krypto gives a speech to both him and the other shelter pets; it is way too long, and was one of the reasons viewers had a bad impression of the movie, as it was prominently featured in the first two trailers.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Ace's backstory - He was owned by a loving family, but they sent him to the shelter after he bit the baby's arm when trying to save her from falling down the stairs.
    • The opening of the film revisits the destruction of Krypton.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Some viewers expressed disappointment that Streaky, traditionally Krypto's usual sidekick, was a complete non-entity in the movie, with most of his qualities being given to Ace instead.
  • Unexpected Character: Even with Dwayne Johnson starring as Krypto, no one expected that he would also be pulling double duty as Black Adam, who he also played in the character's then-upcoming solo feature... or for that matter, triple duty given that he also voices a new character appearing in the end credits scene named Anubis, who is a pet owned by Black Adam.
  • Unintentional Uncanny Valley: There’s something off about Batman’s eyes being visible on his cowl, seeing as other animated incarnations of the character prefer its use of the Irisless Eye Mask Of Mystery.
  • WTH, Costuming Department?: Jessica Cruz's costume has gotten criticism from Green Lantern fans for looking nothing like her comic outfit and some frankly bizarre design choices such as making the torso black except for a circle of green around the chest symbol and using yellow in the design, a color that's explicitly used by enemies of the Green Lantern Corps in the mythology.
  • Win Back the Crowd: After three critical failure adaptations from Warner Animation Group (no thanks to the loss of the LEGO license, their former critical cash cow), this movie received positive reviews from critics and audiences.
