The Super Pets

    Krypto

Krypto / Bark Kent / Superdog

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krypto_7.jpg

Voiced by: Dwayne Johnson

A Kryptonian Labrador Retriever and Superman's dog.

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Krypto's typical backstory in the comics is a passenger in Jor-El's prototype rocket. In this movie, he hitched a ride in baby Kal-El's rocket.
  • Adaptation Name Change: As a civilian dog, Krypto is usually named Skip instead of Bark Kent.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Spends most of the movie with no powers after being tricked into eating a piece of Kryptonite.
  • Clark Kenting: Like his owner, he wears a pair of glasses in his "civillian" identity... though it is far less effective. When he "changes" in order to stop Ace from escaping the shelter, Ace is well aware that he's dealing with the same dog he was talking to just moments ago.
  • Composite Character: A superpet climbing into baby Superman's rocket and coming to Earth was done by Beppo the Supermonkey in the comics.
  • Explosive Punch: Krypto's most powerful ability is the Solar Paw Punch, which involves flying close to the sun, absorbing its energies, then diving back down to Earth to strike his foe. The result is an explosion of solar energy that destroys both the target and the user, making the move a Dangerous Forbidden Technique.
  • Foil: Krypto and Ace have many comparisons and contrasts.
    • Krytpo is a Kryptonian dog, while Ace is an Earth Dog.
    • Krypto's had his whole life to learn how to use his powers, while Ace is new to them.
    • Krypto has No Social Skills, while Ace is a Social Expert within his group of sheltered pets.
    • Krypto has a sunny disposition (like Superman), but gets jealous over Superman and Lois's budding relationship and needs to learn on how to look beyond his own needs. While Ace has a cynical outlook on things, he'll still lie to give his friends hope.
    • Ace does a lot of expected dog behaviors (e.g. sniffing random things), while Krypto behaves much like a human at the beginning of the movie (e.g. using a Human toilet).
  • Green-Eyed Monster: He doesn't like seeing anyone but him spending time with Superman. Especially Lois Lane. His Character Development is getting over this mindset, and accepting he's not the only one in Superman's life.
  • Jealous Pet: He resents his owner Superman's girlfriend Lois Lane and how she cuts into their bonding time.
  • Jerk Ass Realization: He has such a severe one at Stryker's Island that he makes himself cry.
  • Made of Iron: Even after losing his powers, Krypto remains surprisingly durable, surviving injuries that should've killed him several times over and showing no lasting effect. Said injuries notably involve getting ran over by a car and being telekinetically thrown at a monument with enough force to break stone.
  • No Social Skills: Due to living all of his life with Superman, Krypto knows very little on how to interact with civilian dogs.
  • Super Power Lottery: Shares many of the same powers with Superman, including having his age slowed to the point he is still in his prime well beyond when earth dogs normally live up to.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Because Krypto's powers would allow him to easily solve the crisis at hand, he loses his powers early on in the movie and has to rely on the other Super Pets for help until he can get them back.

    Ace

Ace / Bat-Hound

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ace_2.jpg

Voiced by: Kevin Hart

A Boxer with super strength and invulnerability. He later becomes Batman's dog.

  • Adaptational Badass: Ace has superpowers here, while in the comics he's a baseline, superpowerless dog.
  • Adaptation Species Change: Most versions of Ace are a German shepherd, a Dobermann, or a Great Dane. This version is a Boxer.
  • Awesome by Analysis: Much like his eventual owner, Ace's greatest strength is studying his surroundings.
  • Being Good Sucks: Ace understands that doing the right thing can sometimes have consequences thanks to his past.
  • Blessed with Suck: While Ace may be invulnerable to everything that's thrown at him, getting hit by large, fast-moving objects or superpowers still hurts and he can still feel the pain quite easily, such as when he walked into Wonder Woman's invisible jet. Twice. At one point, he laments why he couldn't have gotten some other kind of superpower, like being "super stretchy" or something else that wouldn't encourage people to use him as a dog-shaped shield.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Just like his future owner Batman, Ace didn't have quite a happy beginning as seen below. He was in a loving family until he saved his owner's young baby from falling down the stairs. Unfortunately, he bit her in the process, and this injury led his owners to giving him up for adoption. It's left him very embittered, but he doesn't regret saving her life.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Being played by Kevin Hart and with the craziness and pain he goes through lets Ace releases his snarky side more often.
  • Hidden Depths: Krypto is surprised at how much Ace understands the personalities of his fellow shelter animals. This leads to Krypto realizing Ace also knows Lulu's personality and her motivations, giving them the information they need to figure out her plans to break Lex Luthor out of jail.
  • Immortality Hurts: He's indestructible but still feels pain.
  • Knight in Sour Armor: He's pretty sarcastic and has been hurt for doing the right thing before but Ace will still do the right thing, no matter the consequences.
  • Nigh-Invulnerability: He's invincible as far as we can tell. He even manages to tank Krypto's ultimate attack, which is stated to be powerful enough to obliterate a Kryptonian, although it's clear it really hurt him.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: As a puppy, Ace saved his owner's toddler from falling down a flight of stairs... by biting her on the arm. Her parents rushed in when she started crying, assumed Ace attacked their child unprovoked, and quickly put him up for adoption out of fear he'd hurt her again.
  • Taking the Bullet: He does so a few times during the movie. Of course, having Nigh-Invulnerability, this isn't him attempting a Heroic Sacrifice but rather taking one for the team because he knows it won't kill him anyway.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Ace may be invulnerable but he still feels pain. So of course he's often put into situations where the only option is for him to jump straight into danger.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Develops into one towards Krypto. It starts as Teeth-Clenched Teamwork but, by the end of the movie, they're on much better terms.

    PB

PB

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pb_72.jpg

Voiced by: Vanessa Bayer

A potbellied pig who can change size in scale. She later becomes Wonder Woman's pet.

  • All-Loving Hero: It's almost a flaw as Ace says she needs to learn to love herself just as much as she loves everyone else.
  • Ascended Fangirl: PB is a huge fan of Wonder Woman and is more than happy when she becomes her pet.
  • Badass Adorable: An adorable superheroic pig.
  • Be Yourself: PB compares herself negatively to other heroes, Wonder Woman in particular. It takes Krypto convincing her to stop trying to be like other heroes and be herself for her to finally control her powers.
  • Canon Foreigner: The only Superpet who has no counterpart in the comics, where Wonder Woman's pet companion is Jumpa the Kanga.
  • Full-Boar Action: A pig superheroine.
  • Hero-Worshipper: She has quite a fondness and admiration for Wonder Woman and is excited when she finally meets her.
  • Irony: Her powers is that of a Sizeshifter, which is typical of the moves (at least in terms of growing big) used by her idol's enemy, Giganta.
  • Nice Girl: She's incredibly sweet and supportive of her friends.
  • Sizeshifter: She can quickly alternate between shrinking, growing, and returning to her normal size.

    Merton

Merton McSnurtle / Terrific Whatzit

Voiced by: Natasha Lyonne

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/merton_mobile_a0e4f88d64.png
A red-eared slider with super speed. She later becomes Flash's pet.

    Chip

Chip

Voiced by: Diego Luna

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/chip_mobile_d956ed90a6.png
A red squirrel with electrokinesis. He later becomes Green Lantern's pet.
  • Nervous Wreck: His Fatal Flaw. He overthinks about possible worst situations, which affects his control over his powers.
  • Shock and Awe: The orange kryptonite shard gives him powers over electricity.

Lulu's faction

    Lulu

Lulu

Voiced by: Kate McKinnon

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/0a492852_835b_44b3_add8_dcf3055d317a.jpeg
The main villain, an evil hairless guinea pig.
  • Battle Trophy: After getting the better of Superman, she tears off part of his cape so she can wear it herself.
  • Berserk Button: She's furious whenever she's called a hamster.
  • Big Bad: The main antagonist that abducts the Justice League and prompts the Super Pets to fight her.
  • Desperately Craves Affection: Her main goal is to earn Lex Luthor's love, believing him to be her loving owner. Unfortunately for Lulu, Lex has no love to give her. His minion Mercy, however, is more willing to give Lulu the affection she craves.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Although she trapped the rest of the shelter pets in their cages to die in a fire, she rescued the baby kitten, remarking that she's not a monster.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Lulu honestly believed Lex Luthor, of all people, loved her as his pet and refused to believe she was just one of his test animals out of many. It takes Lex throwing her into his prison cell and leaving her there for Lulu to finally realize what kind of person Lex is.
  • I Am Not Weasel: Is constantly referred to as a hamster throughout the film.
  • I Am X, Son of Y: When first confronting Superman, Lulu introduces herself as "Lulu, daughter of Cinnamon".
  • Insistent Terminology: Lulu really dislikes being called a hamster.
  • Kneel Before Zod:
    • Fittingly, she orders Superman to kneel before her when she comes to confront him at his apartment.
    • She later gives the same order to the Justice League and the Super Pets after turning into a giant monster in the climax.
  • Mind over Matter: The orange kryptonite shard gives her powerful telekinetic abilities.
  • One-Winged Angel: After her initial plan is foiled she becomes a kaiju after absorbing the orange kryptonite into her brain.
  • Unwanted Rescue: Krypto took Lulu to an animal shelter, ignoring her telling him she didn’t want to leave Lex's lab.
  • Villainous Virtues: Her affection and loyalty towards Lex Luthor are genuine, and breaking him out of jail is one of her main motivations. Unfortunately for her, Lex doesn't reciprocate.
  • Woman Scorned: After being betrayed by the one she thought was her loving owner, Lulu decides to murder Lex along with the Justice League to get back at him.

    Whiskers

Whiskers

Voiced by: Winona Bradshaw

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/b42ba23d_462d_4454_b84b_44cc64c15394.jpeg

A kitten, and one of Lulu's hench-pets, who can harness explosives & artillery from her body traits.

  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Is one of Lulu's most trusted hench-pets after she saves her life.
  • Cats Have Nine Lives: When the Superpets trap her under a dumpster along with her own grenade, a few seconds later she states she has eight lives left.
  • Cats Are Mean: Has no qualms about killing the Super-Pets, and refuses to let Lex out of his cage, out of loyalty to Lulu.
  • Cute and Psycho: A Cute Kitten who is gleeful about murder.
  • Cute Kitten: Even as she's tried to kill the heroes under Lulus orders, she's undeniably adorable. She's so cute that Lulu saves her life, because she's "not that evil".
  • The Dragon: Played With in that Lulu doesn’t directly recruit her, but she nonetheless attacks and tries to kill the Super-Pets to stop them from foiling Lulu's scheme out of gratitude for saving her life.
  • Evil Virtues: She may be a sociopathic little monster who takes way too much pleasure in her attempt to kill Krypto and his friends, but she's nonetheless loyal to Lulu as a way to repay her for saving her life earlier in the movie.
  • Hairball Humor: Her hairballs are Cartoon Bombs.
  • I Owe You My Life: Her loyalty to Lulu is out of gratitude from being rescued from the shelter. Quite literally since she apparently died, but survived due to having nine lives, but is never seen antagonizing the heroes again.
  • Killer Rabbit: Whiskers is a little cute kitten... who's also a Walking Armory who tries to kill the Super-Pets.
  • See You in Hell: Says a more PG variation variation to the Super Pets before throwing a grenade at them.
    Whiskers: See you in heck!
  • Walking Armory: Whiskers is capable of producing weaponry from her body, such as turning her whiskers into missiles, her tail into a rocket launcher, a flamethrower, a Gatling gun, and coughing up hairballs that double as grenades.

    Keith and Mark

Keith and Mark

Voiced by: Thomas Middleditch (Keith) and Ben Schwartz (Mark)

A pair of guinea pigs recruited by Lulu from an elementary school for her evil plan. Keith has ice abilities while Mark has fire abilities.

  • An Ice Person: Orange kryptonite exposure turns Keith into a creature of living ice.
  • Discard and Draw: After they turn against Lulu, she smashes them together, changing Keith's powers to water abilities.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: They are willing to help Lulu kidnap the Justice League, but they draw the line at actually killing them, which is what prompts their Heel–Face Turn.
  • Fire/Ice Duo: They always appear in tandem. Mark has fire powers and Keith has ice powers.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Turn their backs on Lulu and joins the new League of Super Pets at the end.
  • Making a Splash: Keith turns into living water after Lulu slams him and Mark together to weaken them, and he stays that way. Luckily, that makes him the perfect pet for Aquaman.
  • Playing with Fire: Mark's body turns into living magma thanks to orange kryptonite exposure.

Others

    Dog-El

Dog-El

Voiced by: Keith David

The father of Krypto.

    Credits Dog (Spoiler Character)

Anubis

Voiced by: Dwayne Johnson

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/97e42feb_d336_457f_9f4f_f17409eea859.jpeg

A black Pharaoh Hound, owned by Black Adam.

  • Canon Foreigner: He is an original character created for the film.
  • Casting Gag: He is voiced by the Rock, whose next feature was Black Adam where he played the title role.
  • Distinction Without a Difference: He doesn't do a very good job of defining an anti-hero without making it sound similar to a villain.
  • Insistent Terminology: He states that his owner is an Anti-Hero, not a villain.
  • Mythology Gag: He is named after the dog-headed god of the dead. And at one point in the comics Black Adam was empowered with the speed of Anpu (another name for Anubis).

People

The Justice League

    In General
  • Adaptational Wimp: Zig-zagged. When they face off against Luthor, they wipe the floor with him. However, when Lulu unleashes her guinea pig army on them, they fall very quickly. Flash lampshades how they lost in spite of having been prepared for actual alien invasions.
  • Badass in Distress: Introduced in the film as a very capable and coordinated group of superheroes, which makes their capture by Lulu all the more shocking.
  • Two Girls to a Team: This incarnation of the Justice League has two female members, Wonder Woman and Jessica Cruz.

    Superman

Kal-El / Clark Kent / Superman

Voiced by: John Krasinski

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/superman_0e53cb507a.png

The superhero from Krypton, the protector of Metropolis, and Krypto's owner.

  • Big Good: As usual, he's one to the entire DC Universe, held in honor by the citizens of Metropolis alongside his dog.
  • Clark Kenting: The Trope Namer. Lulu manages to see right through his disguise though, and tells him he should use a fake mustache instead.
  • Good Is Not Soft: During his first fight with Lulu, he holds nothing back once he realizes Lulu is not to be trifled with.
  • Mythology Gag: Superman and Krypto's opening scene include music and style from Superman: The Movie.

    Batman

Bruce Wayne / Batman

Voiced by: Keanu Reeves

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/batman_3d7dee7527.png

The vigilante superhero and protector of Gotham City. Later becomes Ace's owner.

    The Flash

Barry Allen/The Flash

Voiced by: John Early

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_flash_01fe324727.png

A police forensic scientist who protects Central City. He has the power of Immense Superhuman Speed. Later becomes Merton's owner.

  • Logical Weakness: He's only capable of running so long as he has a solid surface to run off of. The guinea pigs beat him by trapping his feet in cement—a very sticky substance—and keeping him from running.
  • Noodle Incident: He mentions he had a pet cheetah once. Until it ate his landlord.
  • Super-Speed: His powers, as per usual. He isn't called the Fastest Man Alive for nothing, as he can run circles around almost anyone who doesn't have his speed.

    Aquaman

Arthur Curry/Aquaman

Voiced by: Jemaine Clement

An Atlantean-demigod, superhero, and the king of Atlantis. Later becomes Keith's owner.

    Cyborg

Victor Stone/Cyborg

Voiced by: Daveed Diggs

A former football player who gained cybernetics after an accident. Later becomes Mark's owner.

  • Afro Asskicker: This animated version sports a funky larger-than-life afro hairdo.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Is initially defeated when the guinea pigs pull a cartoonishly large battery out of his back - Chip has to ask if that's even how it works - and kept subdued by being set in airplane mode.

    Wonder Woman

Princess Diana of Themyscira/Diana Prince/Wonder Woman

Voiced by: Jameela Jamil

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wonder_woman_e5c3cd3850.png

A warrior princess and superheroine from Themyscira. Later becomes PB's owner.

  • Adaptational Modesty: The gold part of her top extends from the W up to her neck, in contrast with the cleavage shown by most versions of the character.
  • Amazonian Beauty: Definitely one of the more muscular versions of the character, and one of the more attractive.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Lulu's guinea pigs use her own lasso to tie her up.
  • Knightly Sword and Shield: Like many versions of Wonder Woman, she wields a sword and a shield.

    Green Lantern

Jessica Cruz/Green Lantern

Voiced by: Dascha Polanco

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/green_lantern_29_24320ef72f.png

A superheroine and member of the Green Lantern Corps. Later becomes Chip's owner.

  • Adaptational Angst Downgrade: She doesn't share her comics counterpart's mental health struggles in this iteration.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: Her hair is black and green here rather than the brunette of the comics.
  • Adaptational Curves: Is much more stout and curvy than her comics counterpart.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Her hair is near-completely green in this iteration.
  • Hartman Hips: They're wider than her upper body.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Her curvier appearance and full lips are similar to the features of her voice actress.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently she had a raccoon on Oa that she thought was her pet, but tried to ask her out on a date.
  • You Don't Look Like You: Her outfit has zero resemblance to her comic costume, noticeably lacking the Green Lantern symbol over her eye.

Lexcorp

    Lex Luthor

Voiced by: Marc Maron

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3dffdf0b_e77a_4743_956f_02b4cae5e8a7.jpeg

The CEO of LexCorp and Superman's arch enemy.

  • Adaptation Distillation: Mostly averted in that this Lex takes after John Byrne's Corrupt Corporate Executive version from the late '80s to mid 2000s, being a Big Bad Wannabe and having a bulkier, more grounded version of his Warsuit. Played straight in that he seems to lack that version's heavier build and lecherous tendencies.
  • Any Last Words?: He loves saying that. Even Lulu admits it's pretty fun.
  • Bald of Evil: As true to every iteration of the character, he's Superman's Arch-Enemy, and he hasn't a single hair on his head.
  • Blatant Lies: He claimed that he and his company have no affiliation with Lulu, despite the fact that Lulu obviously has a Lexcorp tag on her ear.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Openly invokes classic villan tropes, like evil laughs.
  • Didn't See That Coming:
    • He never saw one of his experiments becoming a villain in their own right, but cheers them on anyway.
    • He gets another one later, but this time it is against him and not for him. When he betrays and imprisons Lulu when she was trying to impress him, he didn’t expect that she would be set free by Keith and Mark, but when she does, she makes it where she imprisons Lex Luthor with the Justice League and now instead of working with him, now she is trying to kill him along with the Justice League.
  • I Just Want to Be Special: His initial goal is to get a hold of orange Kryptonite in order to obtain superpowers. He is very much disappointed when he realizes that it doesn't work on humans.
  • Not Me This Time: Lex answers this to Lois when she accuses him of the havoc caused by the super guinea pigs.
  • Powered Armor: In his first scene, he uses a "Lexcorp Power Suit" to fight the Justice League. He considers it the best billion he ever spent.
  • Stupid Evil: Lex does the evil thing even when it doesn’t benefit him, like betraying Lulu just because he doesn’t want to share the credit for defeating the Justice League. He probably didn’t expect Lulu to be set free by Keith and Mark so soon and that she would get her revenge on him in mere minutes, but she did and this mistake almost costs Lex Luthor his life.

    Mercy Graves

Voiced by: Maya Erskine

Lex Luthor's henchwoman and bodyguard. Later becomes Lulu's owner.

  • Adaptational Jerkass: In most versions, Mercy Graves has Undying Loyalty towards Lex Luthor. This version of Mercy abandons him without a second thought when he gets captured by Lulu.
  • Adaptation Dye-Job: Most versions of Mercy have brunette hair. This one has purple.
  • The Dog Bites Back: She takes in Lulu at the end of the film and the two decide to team up for revenge for their ill-treatment.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Lulu comes after Lex for his betrayal, Mercy declares that she is not paid enough for this and leaves.

Others

    Lois Lane

Voiced by: Olivia Wilde

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8f69b34c_345e_4329_9da1_f81c06bf9565.jpeg

A reporter of the Daily Planet in Metropolis, and Clark Kent's girlfriend.

  • Intrepid Reporter: As usual. Her investigative skills help her to keep up with the plot of the movie, identifying Lulu as once belonging to Lexcorp, for example.
  • Nice Girl: Lois is very sweet, kind, caring, levelheaded and loving.
  • Satellite Character: Lois mainly servers as Clark's love and a thorn in Krypto's side that he learns to accept as part of his life.
  • Secret-Keeper: Is aware that Clark Kent is Superman.

    Jor-El

Voiced by: Alfred Molina

The father of Kal-El/Superman.

    Lara Lor-Van

Voiced by: Lena Headey

The mother of Kal-El/Superman.

    Patty

Voiced by: Yvette Nicole Brown

The owner of the pet shelter in Metropolis.

    The Anti-Hero (spoilers)

Teth-Adam/Black Adam

Voiced by: Dwayne Johnson

A 5,000 year old anti-heroic super-being from Kahndaq, empowered by the wizard Shazam with the abilities of gods.

  • Anti-Hero: Anubis claims he is one, but his actual description of anti-heroism indicates that he's just a flat out villain as Krypto notes; given he himself mostly amounts to a cameo, it's hard to tell.
  • The Cameo: Appears ahead of his own movie three months after the debut of Super-Pets.
  • Friendly Enemy: He and Superman seem to have a pretty civil relationship despite their opposing views on justice.
