Future opponents
The creators already confirmed that mod characters will be included in future updates. Confirmed and released characters include:

Sonic from Friday Night Funkin': Tails Gets Trolled was planned, but got cancelled due to the controversy with the team, and the mod getting canceled. Now here are predictions for possible future mod opponents (assuming they don't receive controversy that gets them canceled/removed).

  • Whitty. His head would resemble a stick of dynamite rather than a Cartoon Bomb, and his tracks could be inspired by the planned remixes for the Whitmore mod before Sock.clip left.
    • The design was confirmed, as he can be seen in the foreground of "Dadbattle" in the latest version.
    • The prediction itself is also confirmed. He’s gonna be coming in a future update.
  • Sky. Given her recent resurgence in the community, it's not far fetched. She would boast the lavender hair Boyfriend has, and her design would be as sexualized as Mommy Mearest, putting Boyfriend into a daze before Girlfriend slaps him back into reality. Her manifest form would be a holy angel.
    • Alternatively, she could be a reverse of her original formula, starting out in Manifest form with a full-tilt obsession with Boyfriend, before realizing now that they've met in person that he's actually not that great.
    • Confirmed. She’s now named Dusk and will be appearing in a future update, though the design is Jossed. She’s dressed casually, and her manifest form hasn’t been revealed.
  • Sonic. If Tails Get Trolled is canceled, a good replacement would be the version of Sonic from Friday Night Funkin' HD. He'd carry the same design that the TGT Sonic was originally going to have.
    • Sonic appearing has been confirmed. He is intended to appear as a character in both D-Sides Chaos and the D-Sides version of Cross-Console Clash (now named Cartoon Crossover and based on TV shows of the two franchises).
  • Hatsune Miku. Being Boyfriend's sister, her design would share a similar motif with Boyfriend, and she'd be a talented rockstar preferring to play her electric guitar rather than sing.
    • We do see her in the background of Week 5, so it's possible. She certainly already has a design, anyways.
    • Miku has been confirmed as a playable character, but the electric guitar has been Jossed as her sprites show her with a mic, just like her brother. She’s also likely not an opponent, but rather a playable character, specifically against Hex.
  • The Literature Club Girls. Hailing from a popular visual novel and gaining a popular mod, these four could fit in well. Perhaps like with Pico's gang, they can have swapped hairstyles.
    • Maybe it could have something similar to Mighty.ZIP, where one of the other girls, possibly Natsuki given how she was the one character with the least focus on her in her home game, could be the one who had the Epiphany and exiled herself from the game.
      • To further expand on this, Monika could take Sayori’s role as the childhood friend, Sayori would be in Yuri’s place as the quiet, intelectual bookworm that becomes an obsessive yandere found in Act 2, and Yuri could take Natsuki’s former role as the semi-vindictive closest otaku who doesn’t get much of a focus on her. Additionally, the MC could be swapped for Libitina and vice-versa.
      • Turns out there are no swaps for the Literature Club, but they do become a gang and apparently the MC looks like a Pokémon trainer. Also, they hail from a beat-em-up, to match how Hating Simulator has become a fighting game.
  • Friday Night Funkin': Mario's Madness. If Vs Sonic.exe is getting the remix treatment, why not its Mario counterpart as well? There are already official designs for D Side Lucas and MX, being named Mark and LX respectively. So it's not off the table.
    • Additionally, there’s also an official D-Side Mario.exe, that being a chainsaw wielding Waluigi.exe (or, rather, Waluigi.ZIP), created by Mario’s Madness’ director.
      • Turns out this isn’t getting used in the official D-Sides mod, and D-Sides Mario.exe is currently unknown.
      • Now we've gotten the official D-Sides Mario.exe in the form of Virtual.ROM.
      • While that wasn't made by any member of the D-Sides team, it was approved by the creator, so I guess it counts.
    • Confirmed.
  • Indie Cross. It’s one of the last five mods on the Golden Throne that isn’t represented in the mod yet (excluding mods that have been cancelled or received controversy), alongside Nonsensical Friday Night, Arcade Showdown, The Trollge Files and Vs. Bob. Among the five, Indie Cross is probably the most popular, and it still has content upcoming.

In the Mario’s Madness crossover, D-Sides Mario.exe won’t be Wario, Waluigi. Foreman Spike or Yoshi, but rather Stanley the Bugman.
D-Sides is pretty much entirely about subverting expectations with it’s crossover content (after all, who ever expected a Mighty Exe to replace Xenophanes, God Z to morph into other Sega Genesis characters, Milk to be against both Sunky and Mitee while playing as Eggman, the Avatar from a Sonic Character Creator to be Sanic’s counterpart, or Tails Doll to remain the same, just with D-Sides Tails’ design rather than changing to Ray?), and Wario, Waluigi and Foreman Spike just would be far too predictable (as basically everyone uses them for D-Sides Mario designs), while Yoshi has already been revealed for PS135’s design, so people would likely just guess that Yoshi would also be Mario.exe. Stanley the Bugman on the other hand would be an incredibly obscure pick, and also still fits in (as he took the player character spot from Mario in Donkey Kong 3).
  • Jossed. It's still Mario. Though they did still make an obscure choice by having the song take place in the Virtual Boy game, Mario Clash.

Virtual.ROM used to be more like his original counterpart.
He wasn't given a Freudian Excuse on why he's a hermit, so here's my theory inspired by the ending of Mario's Madness
  • Like M, Virtual.ROM was a Nintendo employee who worked with a demon. Though in this case, the demon wasn't Daddy Dearest. This other demon imprisoned Virtual into a Virtual Boy and he would later get his revenge (whether it be by killing him or one of his loved ones). After succeeding in his revenge, Virtual.ROM felt an emptiness in his soul and began to regret his actions. Now he feels too ashamed to ever interact with society again and just wants to stay alone forever.
    • Long story short, Virtual went through the same song and dance M did, complete with his epiphany after getting his revenge. Though in this case, Boyfriend encountered Virtual.ROM after he had the epiphany.

Future Mario’s Madness designs will eventually abandon the design concepts for stuff like Virtual.ROM and IHY Luigi, and go back to swaps (albeit not just at random, but based on which characters would best fit the theme for the character).
D-Sides’ one main design philosophy for crossovers is the subversion of expectations. Every choice is done based on what people might not expect (Mighty exes, the character’s official D-Sides design rather than a swap, swaps that aren’t maintained depending on the character, etc). Eventually, the idea of taking a character who already has a D-Sides design and giving them that design will become too expected, so they’ll subvert that by bringing back swaps. For example, making L is Real Luigi or Classified Luigi into Waluigi, perhaps if they decide to base the Mario 64 songs off Mario 64 DS, or using 7C for MX, just with an altered design to fit with Waluigi’s design.
  • Confirmed. MX has been revealed to be based on Wario in his D-Sides design.
    • The more likely idea (and a good compromise) is that they'll alternate between the creepypasta character being the same character but with different lore and personality (ala Virtual.ROM), and it being a different character in the same role (ala Mighty.ZIP). The D Side character rules do state that creepypasta characters won't always be swapped. And having both design philosophies existing simultaneously will allow for variety and keep either of them from getting too predictable.

Guesses for D-Sides designs of potential future opponents and playable characters.
  • Cuphead: Rather than a teacup, his head is an ice cream cup.
  • Ink Demon:
    • Rather than being a demon, he’s instead an Angelic Abomination, potentially using elements from biblically accurate angels.
      • Considering that the Dearests are still demons, this probably isn't likely.
    • Rather than being from an early 1900s rubber hose cartoon, he’s from a modern cartoon.
  • L is Real Luigi:
    • Do the Mighty.ZIP concept and base him on a different character, in this case Waluigi. Additionally, rather than L is Real, he’d be based on Purple Prizes or the Arceus2401 rumours. If it’s the latter, then instead of being held down by tentacles, he’s held down by Piranha Plants.
  • Turmoil: Play up his Yoshi elements even further, like giving him Yoshi’s back spikes or shell.
  • Any Trollges: Base them off the D-Sides design for the Trollface (Goblinface), and rename them to Goblinges.
  • Lucas/Todd:
    • Given that MX is Wario, it’s likely Todd will be based on a character from Wario Ware, likely someone like 9-Volt.
    • Or, given the name, he could instead be Toad, with him being in Wario’s Woods rather than Super Mario Bros.
      • Confirmed. The official reveal for WX shows Todd himself taking on a Toad vessel.
  • Bluescreen:
    • Just give him Sonic’s normal D-Sides design.
    • Base him off of Knuckles, considering how he exists in a rom of Sonic 3 and Knuckles.
  • Henry Miller: Rather than pink, he can be maroon.
  • Jack Kennedy:
    • Given that William Afton is red in his D-Sides design, he can be blue to contrast him.
    • Alternatively, he can be green instead to both contrast William and emohasize his nature as a soulless undead being.
  • Beta Luigi: As a Development Gag, have him use the “take the character’s normal D-Sides design and alter it a bit”, but rather than using Luigi’s normal D-Sides design, it uses his old one.
  • Coronation Day Peach:
    • She can still use Peach's D-Sides design as the base but will be sea-themed like having algae sprouting from her body and with corals serving as her crown.
    • Base her on Rosalina and takes place into a version of Super Mario Galaxy instead.
  • Super Bad Mario: Just have him use D-Sides Mario’s design in the Super Mario World art style. However, maybe base his song off Super Bad Mario 2, adding Luigi alongside him as another opponent.
  • Racist Mario: Instead of Mario Kart, he’s based on Smash Bros.
  • Devil Mario: Do the swap design convention, with him instead being Luigi, given the fact he’s been possessed by Boos.
  • Stanley: He can still use Mario's D-Sides design in the Super Mario 64's 3D model, but the face is glitched rather than featureless. Additionally, instead of Super Mario 64, have him be in Super Mario 64 DS.
  • Classified Luigi:
    • He can still be based on Luigi's D-Sides in the Super Mario 64's 3D model, but now broken down and incomplete rather than bloodied.
    • Turn him into Waluigi like with with L is Real Luigi, with him having been mauled by rabbits (if based on Purple Prizes) or Piranha Plants (if based on the Arceus2401 rumours) rather than drowned.
  • DJ Hallyboo: Base him off D-Sides Lakitu instead of MC Ballyhoo and make the song take place in Mario Kart.
  • LG, W4R and Y0SH: Have LG use his normal D-Sides design, but for W4R and Y0SH, turn them into Peach and Blue Toad as a reference to the player characters in Mario Bros 2 and 3D World.
  • Flippy/Fliqpy: Instead of a former soldier, make him a former secret agent.
  • Somari:
    • He can still be based on Mario D-Sides design but incorporating elements of Sonic's D-Sides design.
    • Or he could be a bootleg of a different game like Megaman.
  • Chris Pratt:
    • He can be replaced by Bob Hoskin from the original Super Mario Bros movie. He can be dressed like D-Sides Mario.
    • Just shove him in D-Sides Mario’s clothes.
  • Mr. Virtual:
    • Instead of a Virtual Boy, he inhabits a Labo VR Headset.
    • Or he inhabits a copy of Dr. Mario. And players who interact with him receive an incurable disease that slowly and painfully kills them while they hear voices in their heads.
  • Horror Mario: Rather than inhabiting a cartridge of Super Mario Bros, he instead inhabits an arcade cabinet for Donkey Kong, and thus has Mario’s colour palette from there and wields a hammer instead of a cleaver.
  • Horror Peach and Yoshi.exe: Replace them with Pauline and Donkey Kong respectively.
  • Wario Apparition: Instead of Wario, replace it with Daisy, another Breakout Character who made their debut in the Super Mario Land duology.
  • Costume: Base it off the Animatronic Mario and Wario puppets from some of Nintendo’s old presentations, perhaps making it so that either could be the character shown (if it’s Wario, it’d also have a New Jersey accent).
  • Mr. L: Instead of Luigi, make them into Peach, and perhaps have them be in Super Mario Bros 1 instead of 3.
  • TMK.exe:
    • Instead of Kirby, make it’s vessel Dark Matter, and make it present in Kirby Dream Land 3 instead of Kirby Super Star.
    • Turn it into Gooey.
