- Batter Up!: Billy always carries his bat, which he also uses to attack the carnival monsters. And kill Sofia when she says she only likes him as a friend.

- Big Bad: Venetia, the carnival headmaster.
- Bloodbath Villain Origin: Venetia was accused of child kidnapping, resulting in the townfolk destroying the carnival and executing her. Only for the missing children to be found days later, revealing they were just running away from their abusive parents. No wonder she and her troupe became vengeful ghosts.

- Crappy Carnival: The original carnival used to be this, with disgusting food, low-quality freaks and few actual amusements. Then the troupe got accused of child kidnapping and everything went to hell.
- Entitled to Have You: Billy thinks that because he risked his life through the carnival to save Sofia, he's entitled to get the girl. When she rejects him, he pulls an If I Can't Have You…
- Even Evil Has Standards: Venetia has no problem slaughtering and cannibalizing the town residents, though she express no prejudice towards Billy since he's an outsider.
- Fartillery: Venetia, of all characters, utilizes this in the first phase of her boss fight, inflicting the status ailment that makes characters "smell like shit" on all party members. She also "rewards" Billy for beating her occasional games of Rock–Paper–Scissors by letting one rip, the smell being bad enough to make the poor boy gag.
- Faux Affably Evil: Pretty much all of the carnival troupe, particularly Venetia.
- Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Venetia was wrongly convicted of child kidnapping and murdered by the angry townsfolk. This would make her a more sympathetic character, if she didn't take her resulting anger out on her killers' decendants.
- Hello, [Insert Name Here]: You can name Billy, Sofia and the carnival monsters, though they do have their Canon Name.
- Love Makes You Stupid: Billy is usually rational, though he has an unrequited crush on Sofia and he tends to go crazy when he thinks there's some sign she truly does love him back. Such as following her to a forest haunted by vengeful ghosts.
- Kick Chick: Since Amicia has no arms, she uses kicking and stomping for her attacks.
- Multiple Endings:
- Ending 1: Billy defeats Venetia and escapes the canival together with Sofia. However, the portal runs out of time just as Sofia is about to cross, leaving her stranded in the carnival world. Billy vows to return for her in ten years.
- Ending 2: Billy defeats Venetia and escapes the canival together with Sofia. He confesses his feelings for her, only for her to say she only likes him as a friend. Billy promptly kills her.
- Nothing Exciting Ever Happens Here: Sofia's reason for wanting to find the carnival.
- Optional Party Member: You have the option to recruit some of the carnival troupe as party members.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: The people of the carnival seek to kill the town residents in retaliation for being wrongly massacred years ago.
- Toilet Humor: "Fart Jokes" is listed as one of the game's main features on its Itch.io page. Surprisingly, main antagonist Venetia is the one that delivers most of them. Should you be lucky enough to win one of her two games of Rock–Paper–Scissors, she'll "reward" Billy and his party with some rather unladylike flatulence. Although the smell's bad enough to make Billy gag and Amicia's eyes water (should you have her in the party), it's Played for Laughs and certainly beats the alternative of being forced to make a sacrifice for losing. Her farts are much more problematic during the first phase of her boss fight, carrying a chance to inflict the Smelly status effect on each party member.
- Town with a Dark Secret: Especially a town that's being haunted every ten years by the vengeful ghosts of a carnival troupe.
- Was Once a Man: Some of the freaks were innocent townsfolk that Venetia murdered, such as Amicia.
