Trivia / Shin Ultraman

Go To

  • Ascended Fanon:
    • The decision to reimagine Zetton as a Kill Sat much larger than Ultraman is influenced by a scientific analysis of Zetton's trillion-degrees fireball by Japanese sci-fi writer Rikao Yanagita, who concluded that a trillion-degree fireball would wipe out life within 200 lightyears, and Zetton would have to be many times larger than Earth to have enough fusion material to fire it.
    • Ultramen have been called 'giants of light' for a long time, and many people assumed that meant they were Energy Beings, and their ability to fire beams from their hands came from the elements named (spacium, elerium, etc) already existing inside their bodies. Shin Ultraman just has an alien explain that Ultraman's body is completely composed of Spacium, and every weapon or ability he has is utilizing Spacium in some way.
  • Descended Creator: Hideaki Anno is the primary mo-cap actor for Ultraman.
  • I Want You to Meet an Old Friend of Mine: Soko Wada and Koji Yamamoto previously acted together in Kamen Rider: Reiwa the First Generation.
  • Late Export for You: Besides the Release and English dub on North America, the movie got officially released by CinĂ©polis on selected Latin America countries both subbed and dubbed on Spanish on November 23th.
  • Milestone Celebration: This movie was intended to be in theatres in the 55th anniversary of Ultraman and the Ultra Series as a whole, before being delayed. However, the film's promotion with McDonald's would end up doubling as one for the 50th anniversary of Return of Ultraman, whose protagonist was once called Shin Ultraman before becoming Ultraman Jack.
  • No Export for You: In Latin America, as with any film released exclusively in cinemas by Cinepolis, the film is not available in Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Uruguay, Dominican Republic and Venezuela because the company doesn't offer services in those countries.
  • Production Posse: Not only the filming crew behind it, but the movie also utilizes some of the actors of Shin Godzilla. For example, lead actor Takumi Saitoh portrayed tank captain Ikeda, a minor character involved in the defensive against Godzilla.
  • Promoted Fanboy:
    • The lead actor Takumi Saitoh. In addition to be confirmed portraying the person who transforms into Ultraman, he also mentioned to have fond memories of watching Ultraman Taro and had met the late Akio Jissoji, one of the many directors of the original Ultraman. An exclusive Fathom Events interview revealed that Saitoh's father was involved with the production of Ultraman Taro.
    • Shinji Higuchi was already a fan of Ultraman, but Hideaki Anno made a Tokusatsu fan film based on Return of Ultraman during the 1980s! Anno portrayed Ultraman in his fan film and was the primary motion capture actor for Ultraman in this film.
    • Chris Hackney and Matt Shipman are both huge Tokusatsu fans (being very vocal about their love of Kamen Rider), and were overjoyed to lend their voices for the English Dub.
  • Release Date Change: This film was supposed to be released in summer of 2021. But unfortunately, like many other films around this time period, the COVID-19 Pandemic had slowed production to the point that Tsuburaya had to move its release date to May 13, 2022.
  • Role Reprise:
    • According to behind-the-scenes footage, Bin Furuya, Ultraman's suit actor in the original series, is Ultraman's mo-cap actor in the scene where he transforms and confronts his impostor (portrayed by Hideaki Anno).
    • Kōichi Yamadera reprised his role as Zoffy after voicing the character from the Japan Animator Expo's The Ultraman short film.
  • You Look Familiar: Kyusaku Shimada, who portrays the Prime Minister of Japan in this movie, was once The Leader of a Badass Crew in Ultraman Neos.
