- Channel Hop: The film rights were originally purchased by Twentieth Century Fox with Blue Sky Studios animating. After Disney bought Fox and shuttered Blue Sky mid-production, the rights were taken over by Annapurna Pictures, with Netflix distributing and DNEG Animation taking over for Blue Sky.
- Directed by Cast Member: In the Latin American Spanish dub, Xóchitl Ugarte is an additional voice as well as the ADR director.
- Incidental Multilingual Wordplay: Upon falling into Todd's bathroom as a pink whale, Nimona glances at his groin and asks "Cold in here?", which is translated to "Samu ku nai?" in the Japanese dub. "Samui" is usually said in response to a bad punchline, so in other words, Todd's tiny sausage is made even more of a joke!
- Missing Trailer Scene: The full trailer for the film has a scene of Nimona teaching Ballister how to use social media. This scene is not in the final film.
- Network to the Rescue: After Disney shut down Blue Sky and dropped the movie, Annapurna Pictures and Netflix saved it, picking up where Blue Sky left off and set for a 2023 release.

- Directors Troy Quane and Nick Bruno reunite with fellow Spies in Disguise veterans, co-writer Lloyd Taylor and editor Randy Trager. Additionally, DNEG, who helped complete the film’s animation after Blue Sky’s closure, previously did 3D conversions for Spies.
- This is the second film animated by DNEG to involve ND Stevenson in the production. Stevenson previously did additional story material for Ron's Gone Wrong; here, he co-produces an adaptation of his webcomic/graphic novel.
- Lorraine Toussaint (the Queen) previously voiced Shadow Weaver in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, another ND Stevenson created work. Additionally, Beck Bennett (Sir Thoddeus) previously voiced Launchpad McQuack on DuckTales (2017), which Stevenson wrote for.
- Queer Character, Queer Actor: Openly gay Eugene Lee Yang voices Goldenloin in the film adaptation.
- Real-Life Relative: In the Latin American Spanish dub, Xóchitl Ugarte and Gaby Ugarte are additional voices, while the former directed the dub. Xóchitl's ex-husband, Gerardo García, voiced Ballister Boldheart.
- Self-Adaptation: ND Stevenson, the creator of the original webcomic, is a co-producer for this movie.
- Troubled Production: The film adaptation rights were acquired by Fox in 2015 and began production under Blue Sky Studios and director Patrick Osborne (Feast), with the intent of a 2020 release. The film experienced delays amidst the Disney-Fox acquisition and was rescheduled to 2022. Production progressed even against the COVID-19 Pandemic, but Disney, as a cost-cutting measure, shut down the studio and cancelled the film, which was reportedly just 10 months from completion. In 2022, three Blue Sky staffers claimed that Disney executives had heavily pushed back against the inclusion of a same-sex kiss in the film
prior to its cancellation. The film would eventually be resurrected, under new producer and distributor Annapurna Pictures and Netflix, respectively, for a planned 2023 release, with Nick Bruno and Troy Quane (of Blue Sky's final completed film, Spies in Disguise) taking over as directors and DNEG Animation picking up where Blue Sky left offnote . - What Could Have Been:
- Patrick Osborne (Feast) was originally attached to direct before Nick Bruno and Troy Quane took over while the film was at Blue Sky.
- Animation tests for the film under Blue Sky reveal that the film could've been animated in Blue Sky's usual CGI style, unlike the Painted CGI of the final product.
- Concept art showed that Goldenloin was going to be Caucasian and have his signature blonde Barbarian Long Hair like his book counterpart. An animation test had it in a Prim and Proper Bun.
- The Director was supposed to be secretly bald.
- There was a version offered to Disney with the same-sex kiss scene cut.
