Trivia / Anno Dracula

  • Actor Allusion:
    • In Dracula Cha Cha Cha, Orson Welles is mentioned as exchanging magic tricks with Cagliostro. Welles played Caligostro in Black Magic.
    • In the same book, the vampire secret agent Hamish Bond is described as resembling his father-in-darkness Sergeant Dravot. In the 1975 film of The Man Who Would be King, Dravot was played by Sean Connery.
    • In the Buffy the Vampire Slayer pastiche sections of The Other Side of Midnight, the Captain Ersatz of Giles mentions he has a mild addiction to instant coffee, a reference to Anthony Head being formerly known for Nescafé Gold Blend/Taster's Choice adverts.
  • God-Created Canon Foreigner: One of the major recurring characters, journalist Kate Reed, is a character originally created by Bram Stoker in early drafts of Dracula but removed from the published version.
  • What Could Have Been: Newman had originally planned a book set in The Wild West, featuring a vampire Edgar Allan Poe tracking down a vampire Billy the Kid (In Real Life, Billy's killer was accompanied by a man named Poe). The idea was scrapped when Uwe Boll released BloodRayne II: Deliverance, which also featured a vampire Billy the Kid.
    • Beauregard's fiancée Penelope was originally the sister of his dead first wife. Newman changed her to a cousin after finding out that remarriage with your spouse's sibling was illegal in England during the novel's time period, being considered incest.
    • In the original novella version of Anno Dracula, Beauregard dies during the final showdown. Needless to say, that's not the case in the novel series.
