• Completely Different Title: The original title, translated from Japanese, translates to "Love's Story of the Young Grass". The various dubs went with simply their region's name of the original book, but the Italian dub calls the show Tutte per una, una per tutte, which translates to "All for one, one for all", though it does have the subtitle Piccole Donne, which was what the book was called in Italy.
• Directed by Cast Member: Tony Oliver was the voice director of the English dub, and voiced Canon Foreigner David, among other minor roles.
• Keep Circulating the Tapes: Averted as of 2017, as the full English dub is on Prime Video, but before then the only way to watch the series in English was to watch Smile Of A Child and an out of print VHS release that only contained two episodes, but it was removed form the schedule in 2015 with no official release at that point.
• Missing Episode: For some reason, Tubi skips episode 33 "Laurie's Lake Party". The episode is available on Prime Video, however.
• No Export for You: Jo's Boys never had an English dub, though it has been fan-subbed and that's not hard to find online.
• Playing Against Type: In any case, playing against types established in Princess Sarah, director Fumio Kurokawa's previous WMT series. Here we have sweet and gentle Marmee played by Taeko Nakanishi, who also voiced cruel Miss Minchin in Princess Sarah, and Eiko Yamada, the voice of Alpha Bitch Lavinia, voicing inquisitive but temperamental Jo. Also averted, as Jo has some things in common with Yamada's other most famous WMT role, Anne Shirley in Akage no Anne.
• Remake Cameo: Not exactly a cameo, as they're part of the main cast, but Keiko Han, who voiced Beth in the 1981 series, was included in the cast of the 1987 series as well, this time voicing Meg, and Taeko Nakanishi, who voiced the narrator in the 1981 anime, in this series she voices Marmee.
• Role Reprise:
  • An odd example. In 1986, dubbing company Harmony Gold dubbed the 1980 Little Women hour-long special (unrelated to this series, as it and the 1981 series was made by Toei Animation), with Mike Reynolds playing Mr. Lawrence. He happens to play Mr. Lawrence again here, and uses the exact same voice.
  • Robert V. Barron, who played Abraham Lincoln in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure voices him in episode 17. No, seriously.
  • In the French dub, Aurélia Bruno voices Amy both in 1981 and 1987 series.
• Uncredited Role: Being dubbed by Saban Entertainment in the late 1980s means that no voice actors are credited within the credits. The only voice actors credited on Prime Video are Mona Marshall (Jo), Wendee Lee (Meg and Marmee), Melanie MacQueen (Beth), and Reba West (Amy). A few other voice actors are known including Tony Oliver, Mike Reynolds, and Robert Axelrod, among others. Anime News Network also credits Bryan Cranston as the voice of Laurie, but this is unconfirmed. This is averted with most other dubs.
• Urban Legend of Zelda: The runaway slave character, John Marty, was never renamed Jim in the English dub.
• What Could Have Been: A few pre-production photos were found, and the March family could have looked like this◊.
