Sandbox / Awesome Music Wick Check

Go To

Awesome Music is a consistent target of ZCE issues, and it's also been discussed that many of the links are either dead or copyright-violating.

120 wicks will be checked.

Wicks: 40/120

    open/close all folders

Good Context, Working Link, Authorized Upload
  • AwesomeMusic.Call Of Duty Zombies: A remake of Mob of the Dead meant a remake of "Where Are We Going", and it is ever more heartwrenching than the first one. Not only does it add more lyrics, but the aforementioned Hans Zimmer-esque tone? It's pumped up even further with some great brass in particular. With an eerie children's chorus, epic remasters of returning portions of the song, and a good, meaty length clocking in around five minutes, this is what "Where Are We Going" was always meant to be. (Good context and the upload is from the composer himself.)
  • YMMV.A Ghost Story: “I Get Overwhelmed” by Dark Rooms, the song C plays for M. It is as beautiful as it is tear-jerking. (Not a ton of context, but it's better than most and the link is valid)

    Good Context, Unauthorized Upload
  • "Bring It All Down" is dark heavy metal at its finest, with distorted robotic singing background voices and a sad violin tone that matches the destruction of the National Nightly News and Channel One via Alan James' suicide bombing. And this credits music is even darker and gloomier if you played the Genocide Route of this game. "Bring it all down" indeed. (Uploader states they do not own the track)
  • AwesomeMusic.Phineas And Ferb: "When Worlds Collide" has the incredibly catchy "Double Dutch Song". Made even more awesome when Doof and Perry both fight while double-dutching. (Link is to an unauthorized upload)
  • YMMV.The Quarry: (All links go to unauthorized uploads)

    Good Context, Dead Link
  • Battle Cry, the Online Battle Lobby theme. Hypnotic and soothing. Composed by Taku Inoue. (Decent enough context but the upload was taken down by a copyright takedown)
  • David's Lullaby is very uneasy, as if something isn't right. (Decent enough context but it links to a dead account.)

    Good Context, No Link
  • YMMV.Steambirds: The music for the game is general is surprisingly epic, with a very patriotic, old-timey feel to it, but the mission select music for the iTouch version takes the cake. (I think the context is decent here, but...)
  • YMMV.Spiderland: (All the music is decently described, but there's no links)
    • "Breadcrumb Trail", which serves as a preview of things to come: the second verse is capped off by a lone, clean guitar melody before bursting into distorted chaos. Towards the end of the song, the distorted instruments build up before immediately refraining into the intro riff.
    • "Nosferatu Man", when the chorus rears in.
    • "Don, Aman", raging electric guitars burst into the mix.
    • "Washer" builds up to a distorted segment before ending the song with the main riff.
    • "For Dinner..." is slow, gradual buildup, and instills a sense of anticipation.
    • "Good Morning, Captain", the song that the entire album builds up to, and especially its ending with Brian McMahan screaming "I MISS YOU" as David Pajo goes nuts with harmonics.

Low Context, Working Link, Authorized Upload
  • "Get Us What We Want" is a perfect example of Mood Whiplash used correctly. (How is it a good example of mood whiplash?)
  • Lucian's Theme, "The Purifier's Resolve", has finally been revealed, and Riot Games called for backup...in the form of The Crystal Method. (Authorized upload but the track isn’t really described.)
  • Awesome.Be Cool Scooby Doo: Every Scooby-Doo fan is familiar with the post-unmasking de-briefing where the gang goes over why the perp did it and how the clues make it evident... but very rarely is it in song! (Authorized upload, but the song itself isn't described)
  • YMMV.Bravoman: The ending theme for the web series, as done by Area 11. (Link is authorized, but the song isn't described)
  • YMMV.Japan Sinks: Kensuke Ushio gives out a lot of great tracks such as the memorable "dad i". (Link is authorized, song not described)

    Low Context, Unauthorized Upload

    Low Context, Dead Link

    Low Context, No Link
  • Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler wrote some of the 1980s' most memorable film scores.
    • His heartstring-tugging ending theme song for The Princess Bride. (Says very little about the track itself.)
  • BigDamnHeroes.Live Action Films: In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Doomsday uses his Eye Beams to crash the Batplane, then attempts to blast the downed Batman... and then Wonder Woman jumps in Just in Time and blocks the monster's heat vision with her bracelets, saving his life. As her badass theme plays. (Just a pothole)
  • Characters.Wicked: "Defying Gravity" in the musical. Her role after the same moment in the book as well. Although, she never actually learns that the Wizard is her biological father. (A random pothole, and the actual trope isn't contextualized well either)
  • DarthWiki.Meftytjory: (None of these bullets have context or a link to the songs)
    • "Leo's Place", the theme music for the series.
    • Leo's Place just got replaced by Suburban Tram as the theme, though this may be undone.
    • "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" was well on its way to becoming the Bootstrapped Theme due to its overall significance as the song of Jack's past, Matthew, Logan and Calvin and as a favourite song of some of them. It ended up not holding this status past Season 3.
    • Cloud Kingdom is the newest opening theme, and it will probably take over as the official series theme.
    • An Unmysterious Episode features Hope by Quicksilver Messenger Service played over a slideshow of '60s-esque pictures of everyone who was in the episode being stoned and having a good time.
  • YMMV.Aikatsu: With so many songs to choose from, there's a lot to love in the series.
  • YMMV.Battles: Everything they've done, but props to "Atlas," "Tonto," and, "Ice Cream."
  • YMMV.The Prodigy: "Spitfire" gets by on one monstrous power chord. It kicks ass.
  • YMMV.The Signal 2007: The film has a solid ambiance soundtrack, the most notable being Ola Podrida's cover of "Atmosphere" by Joy Division.
  • YMMV.Tenchu: To a lesser degree, while the second game polished and refined a lot of ideas from the first, its stages and story are held as a downgrade from the first entry, never mind the shift of the Awesome Music to more ambient tunes. Both great games, both very different feelings, which is only to be expected as a different team made the second.
  • YMMV.Nevermore: According to many professional and amateur critics, pretty much all of their material in some way or another, but This Godless Endeavor receives special mention — as that album is basically Nevermore taking their know-how to the absolute zenith. As mentioned in the Main, it topped "Album of the Year" and "Album of the Decade" lists. Chances are it'll go down as one of the all-time classics.
  • YMMV.Clean Bandit: Who would have thought that a string quartet would blend so well with EDM?
  • YMMV.Cro: The theme song is really an ear worm. Some people have no problem remembering it even if the show last aired almost 20 years ago. It being sung to the tune of "Mother and Child Reunion" probably helped.
  • YMMV.Alt J:
    • Songs like "Taro" and "The Gospel of John Hurt" are breathtaking.
    • Incorporating Miley Cyrus also into "Hunger of the Pine" works so much better than it should.
  • Music.Arcade Fire: "The song" in this case being "No Cars Go," a tune from their self-titled EP. They did a pretty good job with it, too.
