- Angst? What Angst?: Phil is awfully chipper for being the last remnant of an age long past. An Alternative Character Interpretation would explain that Phil is far more grief stricken than he lets on, and tells stories of the ice age as a way of dealing with the pain.
- Awesome Music: The theme song is really an ear worm. Some people have no problem remembering it even if the show last aired over 30 years ago. It being sung to the tune of "Mother and Child Reunion" probably helped.
- Tear Jerker: Try not to think about what will someday happen to Phil the Mammoth in scenes that showcase him and his friends and other loved ones getting along merrily in the past. Heck, even the opening theme stating Cro is "just a memory" is pretty sad.
