- Awesome Music:
- Songs like "Taro" and "The Gospel of John Hurt" are breathtaking.
- Incorporating Miley Cyrus also into "Hunger of the Pine" works so much better than it should.
- Broken Base: On whether Relaxer is as good as the band's previous albums, the fanbase seems... fairly split.
- Memetic Mutation: The "How to Write an alt-J Song" video (also known as "Put It In My Butt") was made by the Canadian band Fleece as an Affectionate Parody of the band, but quickly became a viral sensation. alt-J themselves seemed to appreciate the joke, having changed their Twitter profile picture to a rice cake (which the bandmembers of Fleece are seen munching) for a while.
- Narm: The chant "We are dangerous teenagers... Fuck you! I'll do what I want to do" at the end of "Hit Me Like That Snare" is intended to be sarcastic, but the way it sounds makes it play the trope straight.
- Refrain from Assuming: It's "The Gospel Of John Hurt", not "Coming Out Of The Woodwork" or "Chest Burst Like John Hurt".
- Tear Jerker: It's surprising how some of their songs are genuinely moving, from the aforementioned "Taro" to the epic conclusion of "Bloodflood Pt. II."
