Recap of Supernatural
Season 13, Episode 10:

Wayward Sisters

Written By: Robert Berens & Andrew Dabb

Directed By: Philip Sgriccia

Air date: January 18, 2018

Claire is called home to help Jody and the new arrivals help Sam and Dean, currently trapped in another world.

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: The creature that left the giant footprint in the previous episode reveals itself in this one after the hooded figure rings its dinner bell. After seeing it, Sam and Dean wisely decide to get the hell out of Dodge.

  • Badass in Distress: Sam and Dean have been knocked out and tied to trees by the time Claire and Kaia arrive. Subsequent events suggest they were taken as bait.
  • The Bus Came Back: Donna's first onscreen appearance since Season 11.
  • Cool Aunt: Donna seems to have become this to Jody's adoptive family, being able to get hugs out of both Alex and the usually terse Claire.
  • Distressed Dude: The boys spend the majority of the episode stuck in the Bad Place and then get tied to a tree to be served to the giant monster. It's therefore left to the resident Action Girls to save the day.
  • Evil Doppelgänger: The final shot of the episode reveals that Kaia was killed by her own.
  • Humanoid Abomination: The Cloaked Figures who at first glance come from the Bad Place and show red eyes, but when we get a look at them proper when their hoods are pulled off, nothing underneath can be called even remotely human.

  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: Claire promises to protect Kaia. It hits her hard when she fails to.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Kaia via a flying spear.
  • Poorly Disguised Pilot: The episode is clearly setting up the potential all-female Spin-Off Wayward Sisters by establishing the main characters, an ongoing threat with the dimension-hopping creatures from the Bad Place, and a mystery of why the hooded figure resembles Kaia. The fact that Sam and Dean barely appear is icing on the cake.
  • Shaped Like Itself: Sam and Dean's discussion of a lizard Dean is roasting and eating.
Sam: Please don't tell me it Tastes Like Chicken.
Dean: No, Sam, it's a lizard. It tastes like a lizard.
  • Wham Shot: The final shot of the episode showing another portal opening up with the hooded figure that killed Kaia hopping out and taking off their hood...revealing themselves to be Kaia.

  • Vanity License Plate: Donna has "D-TRAIN" plates on her truck.
