Recap / Phineas And Ferb Magic Carpet Ride

Go To

Inspired by Dad's childhood show, Phineas and Ferb turn the living room carpet into a magic carpet that flies them around town. Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz tries to ruin his brother's portrait, and Candace relies on fortune cookies to help her bust her brothers.

Tropes:

  • Agent Scully: Candace accuses Stacy of being this during their fortune cookie hijinks.
Candace: What do you say to that, Doubty McNonbelief?
Stacy: Why am I suddenly Irish?
  • Bait-and-Switch: At one point, when Doof spreads paint over the Tri-State Area, we briefly see a man wearing a white suit in a completely white room drinking tea. Nothing happens as we cut to the next scene.
  • Continuity Nod: This is the second episode to feature "The Pinhead Pierre Show".
  • Deadpan Snarker: Stacy, as she follows Candace during her fortune cookie escapades, coming to a head with Candace's final fortune cookie.
Stacy: (reading) "Don't believe everything you read." Words to live by.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Doofenshmirtz suddenly cannot bring himself to ruin Roger's presentation when the painting he's revealing is Doofenshmirtz's, which he had spent the last two decades restoring it to its original glory.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: When Roger calls himself a lover of the arts, Doof says, "Liar, liar, ¡pantalones del fuego!", which is "pants on fire" en Español.
  • Inkblot Test: A shrink giving his patient a Rorschach test asks him what it reminds him of, then a giant paint blob covers the window and the patient says, "That."
  • Magical Incantation: The magic word to make the magic carpet fly on The Pinhead Pierre Show is "streptococcus", which is kind of bacteria.
  • Never My Fault: Doof blames Roger for ruining his painting, but Doof was mostly at fault because he was too excited to notice Roger eating his lunch that he practically drags with the lunch to his painting.
  • Nostalgia Filter: Lawrence admits that the magic carpet ride sequence from the Pinhead Pierre Show isn't as thrilling as he remembered from his childhood.
  • Notary Nonsense: Dr. Doofenshmirtz's evil scheme in "Magic Carpet Ride" is to enact a "solemn vow" he made to make his brother pay for ruining his painting back when they were young adults. The day after he made the solemn vow, he had it notarized.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Special Guest: Future EGOT winner Robert Lopez (Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon, Frozen (2013)) helped co-write "Aerial Area Rug".
  • Stop Trick: Pinhead Pierre suddenly has a turban on his head and is holding a carpet this way.
  • Stylistic Suck: Pinhead Pierre's magic carpet ride has green screen matte lines visible and hands holding the signs showing the landmarks Pierre mentions.
  • Titled After the Song: The episode title, of course, shares its name with a single by Steppenwolf.
  • The Unreveal: Doofenshmirtz's painting is never shown, nor when it is restored, only to get ruined again.
  • Waking Non Sequitur: When Perry arrives at O.W.C.A. headquarters, Major Monogram is asleep. He then yells "Wrong pants!" as he wakes up.
  • Wild Goose Chase: Candace relies on fortune cookies to help bust her brothers, with a reluctant Stacy tagging along. This leads her to all sorts of places throughout the Tri-State Area, such as the fish market, a random stranger's apartment, an underground elevator, and the city dump.
