Recap / Naomi 2022 S 1 E 2 Unidentified Flying Object

Go To

While still trying to deal with the fact that she has powers, Naomi's everyday problems don't stop.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • The Alleged Car: Jacob's car is.....not in a good state. It eventually breaks down completely.
  • All Myths Are True: All UFO sightings of the last century were real alien spacecraft.
  • Ambiguous Situation: The look on Greg's face after Naomi asks him and Jennifer about her birth parents might imply that he actually knows more than he lets on, although in his conversation with Commander Steel he apparently doesn't know about aliens being real.
  • Blow You Away: Zumbado displays this power, easily knocking a still inexperienced Naomi down.
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right:
    • Jacob, who has been obsessed with UFOs for years.
    • Steve O'Brien, who had a near-encounter with aliens during the crash of 2004.
  • Flashback: A short one to 2004, when Steve O'Brien witnessed the crash.
  • The Force Is Strong with This One: Dee can sense unique vibrations in people who have superpowers.
  • Human Alien: Dee is from Thanagar, the homeworld of Hawkman and Hawkgirl. And he tells Naomi that she is an alien as well, just like Superman.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Naomi laments this, though Annabelle quickly points out that she was exceptional even before.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: Anthony, when Nathan complains why he is at Naomi's place.
  • Inspector Javert: Commander Steel, who welcomes Greg into the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF). As he has no idea what aliens want, or what they're willing to do to get it, he assumes that they're extremely dangerous and hostile by default.
  • Just Friends: Downplayed, as Naomi tells Anthony that she just wants to stay friends for now, not because she isn't interested, but because she has a lot on her plate currently.
  • Mythology Gag: Annabelle noting that the car is getting a bit crowded is a subtle Mythology Gag to the comics, as all of the boys are Canon Foreigners.
  • My God, You Are Serious!: When Dee tells Naomi to jump off the bridge, she first thinks he is joking.
  • Noodle Incident: Dee and Superman fought together in a war at one point.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: When Naomi asks Dee why he is helping her, he says that he knows what it feels like to be different and not knowing why.
  • Power Incontinence: While Naomi displays a slightly better handle on her powers than last episode, she still can't control them and is thus no match for Zumbado.
  • Real After All: Superman is confirmed to be real by Dee. He says they fought side-by-side in the past.
  • Sequel Hook: Zumbado goes back into the Mill and makes the mysterious, white markings on the wall disappear.
  • Super-Hearing: During their investigation in the forest, Naomi realizes that she is picking up all kinds of noises.
  • Super-Toughness:
    • As another proof of her heritage, Dee brings up Naomi never having been seriously hurt throughout her life. That is also the reason he wants her to jump off the bridge.
    • Commander Steel acquired a part of Superman's cape, which proves to be invulnerable to all kinds of testing.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: Naomi learns that she too is an alien.
  • True Companions: All of Naomi's friends refuse to leave her side when they are being threatened by Zumbado. They only leave when she asks them to.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Annabelle is extremely quick to accept Naomi's story.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Naomi is afraid of heights.
