Go To

As Naomi is learning to control her powers step by step, she gets into trouble when she and her friends are caught trespassing and destroying property. After a fight with her parents, she learns a shocking secret.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • Adaptation Species Change: Adam Blake is a metahuman in the comics; here he's an alien.
  • Anger Born of Worry: Naomi's parents are not happy with her getting into trouble and coming home late despite promising otherwise, because they know that the Military is currently hunting down all suspected alien life.
  • Arc Words: The markings on the disk say "The Twenty-Nine". Zumbado is seen opening his journal to a page labeled "The Twenty-Nine." Among the list of names is Akira's, whom he crosses off the list.
  • Blatant Burglar: The 'break-in clothes' Jacob packed for the gang are black sweatshirts, hoodies, gloves and caps.
  • Boxing Lessons for Superman: Dee starts giving Naomi lessons in martial arts.
  • Crazy-Prepared:
    • Zumbado has a secret compartment in his safe, storing the real disk, while he puts a fake one on display.
    • Jacob has 'break-in clothes' in his backpack for Naomi, Annabelle, Nathan, Anthony, Lourdes and himself. To be clear, he didn't know for sure till they were on the bus for the field trip that there was going to be a break-in, and didn't know till after the tour started that Nathan, Anthony and Lourdes were going to be involved, or that Lourdes was even there.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • Naomi and Annabelle's plan to steal the disk wasn't very smart, as they do it basically right under Zumbado's nose.
    • She and her friends also quickly get into a lot of trouble after trespassing on a college and accidentally breaking equipment while trying to do research on the (fake) disk.
  • The Guards Must Be Crazy: The security guy at the site of the translocation key just lets Naomi and Annabelle pass, telling them to not do any graffiti downstairs.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Dee's friend is Adam Blake, aka Captain Comet.
    • Lourdes brings Naomi a Zatanna comic book.
    • Lourdes herself is also seen reading a Wonder Woman comic.
    • Zumbado's journal refers to "The Twenty-Nine". In Naomi's comic she was actually born on a world where 29 people received superpowers as part of a Mass Super-Empowering Event before being sent to Earth.
  • The Reveal: Dee's full name is "Darcovo", as revealed by Adam Blake.
  • Running Gag: Naomi wants Annabelle and Jacob to cover for her on the tour while she sneaks off to the geology lab, but they both want to come with her, so they ask Nathan to cover for them. Nathan wants to come with, so they ask Anthony to cover for them. Anthony wants to come with, and when Lourdes shows up she notes that the tour group has left them behind without noticing it, and she also wants to come with, so all six of them end up going to the geology lab.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: Naomi's parents reveal that they knew about her extraterrestrial origins long before Naomi herself discovered them, bringing her to the spot in the woods where they found her. In fact they're unaware of the fact that she does already know when they reveal this.
  • Totally Radical: Adam Blake talks like this.
  • We Need a Distraction: Naomi and Annabelle tell Mrs. Anderson that Zumbado has a locals discount, causing her to go see him with them and later asking him to show some of his cars. The girls take the opportunity to steal the (fake) disk.
  • We Used to Be Friends: For reasons yet unrevealed, Akira holds a grudge against Zumbado and refuses to work together with him. Apparently, it happened 16 years ago and got both of them exiled from their homeworld.
  • Wham Shot: After telling her that the military is hunting down aliens, Naomi's parents also bring her to a place in the woods where they found her, which has the same strange markings as the disk.
  • With Us or Against Us: Zumbado makes it clear to Akira, after she turns down his offer to work together, that he is not gonna let her stand in his way.
  • You Are Grounded!: After Naomi comes back after 6 PM, breaking a promise to her mother after previously breaking college equipment, her parents take her phone and ground her. She still sneaks out with Annabelle later to find the translocation key. When she asks if Annabelle is grounded too, the other says, "It's a conversation."
