Recap / Fairy May Cry, 12 "True Devil"

Go To

With a great number of their members missing, the remaining members of Fairy Tail scramble to protect each other, but Vergil's next target is one that nobody's expecting...

  • Big Brother Instinct: Most of the guild has this towards Wendy, especially once they realise Vergil is after her. Natsu and Dante furiously attack him after her kidnaps her, with the elder Son of Sparda noting his brother is more emotional than usual.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Trish delivers one to Carla when the latter keeps insulting Dante.
  • Captain Obvious: Happy's response to the results of Wendy's Sky Dragon Roar?
Happy: WHOA! THERE'S A GIANT HOLE IN THE WALL!
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Played for Horror in Vergil's 'fight' against Wendy, given his opponent is a twelve-year-old child. The whole thing comes across as a scene from a horror film more than anything.
  • Defiant to the End: Non fatal example. Wendy initially tries to flee from Vergil, but when cornered is determined to stand her ground, attacking him with a Sky Dragon Roar, that sadly doesn't work.
  • Death Glare: Vergil's default expression, instilling dread in Wendy.
  • "Eureka!" Moment:
    • When discussing how the kidnapper is targeting powerful members and the fact that Dante fits that criteria, Lucy realises from the 'Son of Sparda' comment that Vergil may be the one behind it all.
    • Dante asking where everyone is reveals that Wendy and Carla aren't in the guildhall, and quickly realises that she is the next target.
  • Here We Go Again!: Vergil is annoyed by Carla and Wendy refusing his offer to come peacefully, calling an inability to listen a trait of Fairy Tail wizards.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Wendy assures Carla that the kidnapper won't go for her since they're targeting the guilds strongest fights, and despite being a Dragon Slayer she doesn't fit that criteria. Straight afterwards, Vergil appears and says her potential strength as a Dragon Slayer is enough reason to kidnap her as well.
  • It's Personal: Natsu already hated Vergil's guts for attacking his own brother and believing power is more important than bonds, but learning he is responsible for kidnapping his friends made it all the more personal.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Carla blaming Dante for Vergil attacking Fairy Tail was incredibly harsh, but she raised the valid point that he could have at least warned them about Vergil so they could take precautions.
  • Mama Bear: Carla's concern for Wendy is such that she's willing to stare down Vergil and even scratch his face.
  • Not So Above It All: While pursuing Wendy, Vergil calls their chase a game, and refers to his lack of a sense of humour like Dante's as "one of [his] few flaws".
  • Papa Wolf: Makarov is outwardly controlled, but admits he's waiting for a chance to make the person kidnapping his 'children' pay.
  • Pressure Point: How Vergil subdues Wendy.
  • Smoke Out: How Vergil manages to escape Fairy Tail despite being surrounded.
  • Super-Speed: Vergil proves fast enough to keep up with and outpace a flying Carla.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Carla lays into Dante for not warning Fairy Tail about his brother sooner, laying the blame for Vergil's actions at his feet.
    • In response for the above, Trish angrily reminds the cat that it's Vergil that is to blame for his own actions, before outlining how much of Dante's life was one long Trauma Conga Line, shutting up the haughty cat.
  • Would Hurt a Child: While he offers not to hurt her if she comes willingly, Vergil shows no hesitation attacking Wendy when she refuses to comply. That said, he is somewhat gentler with her than the others, simply using a Pressure Point rather than inflicting serious physical harm.
