Recap / Ed Edd N Eddy S 3 E 24 Dont Rain On My Ed

Go To

During a latest scam, Eddy is told by Nazz about the Candy Store selling free jawbreakers but the store closes in 10 minutes. Eager to get the tasty sweets, the Eds make the fast journey to the Candy Store but ends up being surprisingly difficult.

Tropes

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Ed most likely would've gotten his friends to the Candy Store in time but became distracted by the chicken drive.
  • Bamboo Technology: Edd managed to construct a vehicle out of trash he hastily found in the alleyway to get him, Ed, and Eddy to the store quicker. They most likely would've gotten there in time if they didn't have the misfortune to run into the Kanker Sisters.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Upon seeing the Kankers, Ed makes a comment about how close the camera is to his face when it zooms in on him.
    Ed: EXTREME CLOSE-UP!!!
  • Butt-Monkey: Both Eddy and Edd. Eddy constantly goes through abuse during his journey to the Candy Store (which he definitely deserves) while Edd got captured by the Kankers and almost carried away by a flock of chickens.
  • By Wall That Is Holey: Eddy is running under Jimmy's "garden in the sky" when it falls over him. Fortunately, all the debris falls around Eddy, leaving him unharmed. Unfortunately, that's when Kevin gets his revenge on Eddy by dropping a piano on him.
  • Cosmic Plaything: The whole episode treats it as though the Eds are not fated to get jawbreakers and everything that could go wrong does go wrong in their attempts at getting to the candy store. This is lampshaded by Edd when a typhoon suddenly appears when they are only just across the street from their destination.
Edd: IT WAS NEVER MEANT TO BE! FATE HAS CONSPIRED AGAINST US!
  • Death Glare: Ed gives one of all people but more of a Let's Get Dangerous! moment when he tries to help his friends get to the Candy Store in time.
  • Dinner Deformation: Eddy was running with his mouth open when he ran into Kevin, thus accidentally swallowing him and his bike, which stretch out Eddy's body.
  • Downer Ending: The Eds, despite going through abuse throughout the entire episode, just missed the Candy Store by a few seconds thus not receiving free jawbreakers. What's worse is that Jonny, who had freaking television sets tied to his feet earlier, made it before them and refused to let Eddy in. Eddy was definitely livid but Edd and Ed didn't seem to mind much (Edd pretty much didn't care anymore due to Eddy's treatment of him and Ed was laughing at Plank's jokes).
  • Finagle's Law: From the sudden appearance of the Kankers to a storm to the chicken drive across the store, anything that can go wrong does so as the Eds try to overcome whatever fate throws at them.
  • Foreshadowing: Eddy at the start of the run for the candy store accidentally swallows Kevin and his bike whole. Kevin announces, "No, REALLY! I'm pounding 'ya dork!" He makes good on that promise by dropping a piano on Eddy about a few minutes later.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision:
    • When Edd is captured by the Kankers, Eddy abandons him without a second thought and without even looking back. Ed however is shown deeply conflicted, running back and forth between going to help Edd or following Eddy to the candy store for free jawbreakers. Ed eventually chose to save Edd off-screen, and the two of them eventually catch up with Eddy.
    • Eddy is forced to choose between saving Edd from danger or scoring free jawbreakers. Naturally, being Eddy, he chooses the latter. And naturally, being Eddy, he fails to get the jawbreakers anyway.
  • Hope Spot: Happens a good amount of times in this episode.
    • Eddy thought he was safe from Jimmy's potted plants missing him. Cue Kevin dropping a piano on him.
    • Another is when the Eds are just in front of the Candy Store. Only for a storm to blow them back.
    • Cue the third when Ed, having enough of their twisted fate, goes total badass and tries to help pull his friends toward the Candy Store. This would've worked if Rolf didn't suddenly appear with an entire flock of chicken which, of course, Ed jumps right into the pile of them.
  • Hypocrite: Eddy constantly ignores everything else on his quest to get free jawbreakers, including abandoning his friends in unfortunate situations several times. But when he is the one in trouble, getting tangled up in a piano after Kevin drops it onto him, he is suddenly begging Double D to help him get out, even after he just abandoned him to the Kankers and made Ed save him himself.
Edd: Well, well, well. Seems the shoe is on the other foot, huh, Eddy?
  • Jerkass Ball: Eddy was being much more of a selfish jerk in this episode, caring only about getting free jawbreakers rather than helping out his friends. Double D had to call him out a couple of times on this.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Pretty much everything that happened to Eddy in this episode he deserved. From getting a piano dropped on him to being locked out of the closed Candy Store by Jonny.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: When the Eds are right outside the Candy Store, only for a giant storm to appear out of nowhere and starts blowing them back, Ed, the goofiest of the Eds, stares on silently before giving a determined glare and in a moment of quick thinking uses his friends to fight against the storm and slowly drags them with him towards the Candy Store. If it hadn't been for the random chicken flock appearing out of nowhere, Ed would have made it undeterred.
  • Mouthscreen: "They're giving away jawbreakers ... for free!"
  • Never My Fault: While Double D was right to berate Eddy for abandoning both him and Ed to clean up a mess they made and, later, to be molested by the Kankers, in the latter case, Double D's anger is somewhat hollow when you consider that they only managed to capture him at all is because he was so obsessed with protecting what's under his hat.
  • Oh, Crap!: Happens a good amount of times.
    • All three of the Eds' expressions upon seeing the Kanker Sisters. Edd gets one after when May pounces at him from above.
    • Eddy and Edd's expressions upon seeing the chicken drive. They knew what they were in for considering Ed's obsession over chicken.
  • Pet the Dog: Ed at least was willing to save Edd a couple of times with the latter even calling him a true friend. Also, at the beginning of the episode, Edd went with Ed to help clean up the scam.
  • Piano Drop: Kevin's retaliation towards Eddy after the latter accidentally swallowed the former in whole earlier.
  • Pun-Based Title: This episode's title is a pun of the phrase "Don't rain on my parade." Most likely referring to all the calamities that befall the Eds as they're trying to get to the Candy Store.
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • Even when Double D got captured by the Kankers and was being carried away by a flock of chickens, Eddy only focused on getting free jawbreakers rather than helping out his friend.
    • On the flipside, Double D could have evaded capture on his own if he had just let go of his hat and run like hell.
  • Squashed Flat: While in the construction site, Ed accidentally turns on a steamroller, which flattens him and Eddy.
  • Swallowed Whole: Jeez! You think Ed swallowing his mattress was crazy? Eddy accidentally swallowed Kevin and his entire bike whole during one point in the episode!
  • Tempting Fate: The rope holding up Jimmy's garden gives way just as Eddy was running by for a shortcut. Everything comes crashing down, but everything just lands around him instead. Eddy excitedly remarks that it all missed him, only for Kevin to give him a Piano Drop.
  • Too Dumb to Live: May bounces for the running Eds but only gets Edd.... by his hat and nothing else. Edd still insists on keeping the hat, rather than release it and run like hell. And yet Edd blames Eddy for refusing to save him.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Edd was understandably upset at Eddy for refusing to save him over free jawbreakers.
  • What You Are in the Dark: Double D is incapacitated by the Kankers and later overwhelmed by the chicken flock, leaving Ed and Eddy with the chance to help a friend or try to get free jaw breakers. Eddy doesn't hesitate either time to abandon a friend for the sake of material reward. Ed, however, is shown to be conflicted and struggles over what to do, but he ultimately chooses to try to help Double D however he can.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Eddy's reaction to the storm appearing out of nowhere.
