Basic Trope: After defeating the final boss, you can unlock a new boss who is far stronger than anyone in the game.
- Straight: After defeating Emperor Evulz at the end of Tales of Troperia, you unlock the Caverns of Ragnarok which contain a powerful Superboss called Blackhole. Sir will need to be much, much stronger to defeat Blackhole if he wants to obtain the Ragnarok Sword.
- Exaggerated:
- You have to get the Golden Ending in Tales of Troperia, then do the entire game on New Game Plus on a Harder Than Hard playthrough to even get a shot of fighting the SNK Boss Infini the Wise. Fail and he deletes your entire save file.
- Jupiter is found at the end of Planetarium Tesseract where you have to fight stronger versions of every boss (sans Emperor Evulz) across a 99 floor dungeon without save points.
- To unlock the Broken Anomaly, you have to lose 255 times to every regular fighter in the game, do a New Game Plus playthrough without saving once, do another New Game Plus playthrough with no continues and then get your save file deleted by losing to Infini the Wise. When you start a new playthrough, there should be a strange portal near Sir Robert's bed where you fight the Broken Anomaly.
- In order to find the ????, you have to beat every other superboss in Tales of Troperia, then get 100% Completion by beating out every of the fighters, having no losses, getting every ending and seeing every dialogue choice. After all that, you must return to the Ruins of Messiah to encounter the SNK Boss ????, which will wipe you out with every single move anyway.
- As if to spite all of the other Superbosses, you can play as Claidheamh and take them all on (before you ask, yes, all at once) and become even stronger than all of them in his separate adventures in each of the Tales of Troperia games. Upon completing this challenge, Sir Robert can challenge Claidheamh to a true fight, one-on-one.
- Downplayed:
- Tales of Troperia has several Optional Boss fights but none of them are stronger than Emperor Evulz.
- Emperor Evulz is simply made stronger for every New Game Plus run that you do but that's about it.
- You can unlock a set of Optional Boss fights who are reskinned version of Emperor Evulz who are only slightly stronger than the vanilla final boss fight.
- Emperor Evulz is able to be refought, but if Sir Robert activates the special chalice before the final fight, Emperor Evulz will be given various buffs (or Sir Robert debuffs) to make the fight seem harder.
- Justified:
- Sir Robert is a Blood Knight and is deliberately seeking strong opponents to sate his desire for combat now that Emperor Evulz is dead.
- Emperor Evulz was so mad that he decided to train up and took refuge in an abandoned tower to recover. Upon finding the fallen emperor, Sir Robert decides to kill him for good this time.
- ???? can be encountered at the Ruins of Messiah and is revealed to be a Villain of Another Story. Sir Robert decides that they has to be stopped before they can do any real damage.
- Through the power of a Stable Time Loop, Sir Robert can fight an alternate version of himself who can use the strongest powers in the game due to doing multiple New Game Plus runs. Future Sir Robert wants to kill Sir Robert to prevent him from abusing New Game Plus and awakening powerful opponents who want to kill him for merely existing.
- Sir Robert is so powerful that the Planetary Guardians are now trying to kill him due to their feelings that he's now a potential threat to the planet.
- The developers had some extra time and decided to create the entire Caverns of Ragnarok dungeon and its boss as a fun extra before the game was released.
- The developers decided to add a new bonus dungeon as part of a content update which included some bug fixes and rebalancing.
- The developers wanted to reward players for completing the game or for completing optional sidequests.
- The developers included a bonus dungeon in the Downloadable Content for the game which includes challenges against both new and old bosses, ending with a special fight against Emperor Evulz's alternate form (which turns out to be way harder and bypasses the limits the final boss had).
- Sir Robert collected the "Ten Evil Arms" weapons through his journey. Upon defeating Emperor Evulz, the Ten Evil Arms will be called to Evulz hand, and Emperor Evulz will ascend to greater power, becoming Planet Destroyer Evulz. Beating this version of Evulz results in an Alternate/True ending.
- Inverted:
- You are the game's superboss as part of a Multi-Mook Melee mode consisting of every character in the game trying to kill you and steal your equipment. You get to play as either Claidheamh on Easy Mode or as Sir Robert on Hard Mode.
- Training Boss
- Warm-Up Boss
- Subverted: After a trek down the Pit of Eternal Suffering, you make it the Messiah of Masochism. As it turns out, he's nothing more than a Cutscene Boss.
- Double Subverted: The Cutscene Boss turns out to be an SNK Boss, which invites you to an extra fight anyway.
- Parodied:
- Sir Robert returns to the Suck E. Cheese's only to find Carl the Chicken Man, who slaps Sir Robert once, causing him to become A Twinkle in the Sky.
- Claidheamh simply remarks that whoever Sir Robert fought, Claidheamh had surely beaten a billion times over.
- Averted: Tales of Troperia has no superbosses and the game ends after beating Emperor Evulz.
- Enforced:
- After beating Emperor Evulz, The Mentor visits Sir Robert 2 weeks later and tells them that he needs to visit an old friend for additional training. That old friend is Grandmaster Gary, who is far stronger than Emperor Evulz and whose sheer power must be overcome if Sir Robert wants to stand a chance against the True Final Boss.
- The developers decided to add fights with Jupiter, Infini the Wise, Broken Anomaly, Future Sir Robert, ???? and Claidheamh to the SNK Boss list because they were remaking Tales of Troperia as Tales of Troperia: Ultra Competition DX and felt that some new content would add some life to the game and reward veteran fans with something new.
- Invoked: Upon being killed, Emperor Evulz transports the last of his power into a powerful monster near Sir Robert's ruined hometown out of spite. His dying words have him claim that this monster shall destroy everything Sir Robert loves unless he can find it.
- Exploited: While Sir Robert and the party are busy searching for strong opponents to fight and treasure to seek, Emperor Evulz has resurrected from the dead just in time for Tales of Troperia II which begins with Evulz stealing Sir Robert's post-game powers to empower himself.
- Defied: "Hell no, I'm done with this adventure. I'm not spending months of my life trying to kill every powerful enemy who looks at me funny."
- Discussed:Sir Robert: "Wait a minute, if you're even stronger than Emperor Evulz, then why aren't you trying to take over the world?"
????: "Oh contrare, my naive hero. That's the exact reason I came to these old ruins. To kickstart my own plans. And I have you to thank for getting rid of that idiot Evulz for me."
Sir Robert: "Damn. I guess I'll have to put a stop to you too, before you can do any real damage to the world." - Conversed:Bob: "Remember when Tales of Troperia was all the rage and there was this cave with this guy called Blackhole?"
Alice: "Black what? I couldn't even get past the first floor without my party being beaten to death by these stupid purple mages and their death spells."
Bob: Oh? The Reaper Mages are a real pain. Then again, I suppose it's nothing that hours worth of level grinding can't fix, eh Alice? - Deconstructed:
- Blackhole is one of the strongest bosses in Tales of Troperia and very few are strong enough to reach him. Years of having only hostile monsters for company and visitors who only want to fight him for his weapon has caused him to lose all faith in humanity, transforming him into a merciless foe who holds nothing back.
- Aeons of being left in the Planetarium Tesseract have reduced Jupiter to insanity. By the time you actually get to him, his only reason to fight is to kill you and add you to his army.
- Claidheamh decides to spite Sir Robert, and begins to start challenging every single superboss around, just to prove he's better than Sir Robert in every other way. Needless to say, everyone considers this petty on the highest level, something that even the superbosses themselves agree on.
- Reconstructed:
- Rather than kill Blackhole, Sir Robert spares his life and takes the sword as his prize. If you return to him again and defeat him with no losses, he'll show up and beat Emperor Evulz to a pulp as part of the game's secret ending.
- Sir Robert simply spares Jupiter's life and takes the army as his prize. If you return to him again and defeat him with no losses, he'll join Blackhole in beating down Emperor Evulz.
