  • "Long Nights, Short Days" has a lovely Dream Sequence where Sam imagines a body she's been examining that has maggots crawling in it's wounds suddenly opens it's eyes.
    • The ending of the episode has a man's back slowly cut open with a knife, and then we see the aftermath of the killer of the week slitting their throat.
  • During "Undertone" Jack and a DI open a garage door... only to discover a man who's been tortured to death. From the looks of it was not a quick death.
    • Also in the same episode a particularly nasty Turkish gangster named Bekir threatens a man by saying he'll "cut you open, like an animal" if he doesn't get his drugs... Said man is his Cousin.
    • The DI comes home to his wife only to find Bakir with her... with a gun.
  • During "Fraternity" Jack Hodgson is the victim of a hit and run. With no gory or Shadow Discretion Shot, and the injuries he receives are bad enough he needs brain surgery.
  • At the end of "Falling Angels" the Outlaw Couple jump in front of a tube train onscreen. We later get to see what the train did to their faces, not a pretty sight.
  • "In A Lonely Place", which revolves around a serial killer who kidnaps and rapes vulnerable women, forces them to run naked through the woods whilst hunting them down like animals and has been getting away with it for years, because no one cared enough about these women - most of whom are strippers, prostitutes and runaways - to look for them. Taken up to eleven when the one woman who managed to escape from the killer gets taken by him a second time and must relive her ordeal.
    • During the police's search of the forest they bring in cadaver dogs (dogs trained to search for corpses) and each dog then proceeds to sit in a different spot to mark the location of a body... And there's six of them.
  • The second part of "Awakening", where Nikki is kidnapped by a cartel and Buried Alive, with only a cellphone with limited signal, a single bottle of water and little hope of rescue.
  • At the beginning of "In Plain Sight" shows the aftermath of what really happens if you give someone a Moe Greene Special. No Pretty Little Headshots here, just shots of the inside of the back of the man's ruined head.
  • One of the most horrific moments occurs in "Identity" when Nikki, Jack and several Police officers find a van parked in the woods. Upon breaking the padlocked door they discover the fly-covered, decaying corpses of the migrants who were left there to die. Trapped with no way out they smeared messages on the wall in blood and left handprints on the door as they desperately tried to claw it open.
