What you, what you gon' do?
— His signature samplenote

Jax Jones (born Timucin Fabian Kwong Wah Aluo) is an English DJ, songwriter, record producer, and remixer, specializing in House Music. He is known for widely collaborating with other artists; his first album, Snacks (Supersize) includes tracks with Tove Lo, Bebe Rexha, Demi Lovato, Jess Glynne, and more.

His stage name comes from UK slang, "on your Jack Jones", meaning to do something on your own.

He grew up in a broadly multi-ethnic household; his mother is Chinese-Malaysian, his father is Turkish, and his step-father is Nigerian. He got his big break on the song "I Got U" by Duke Dumont, and then started producing his own singles, collecting his first major hit with "You Don't Know Me" (featuring Raye), which reached #1 on the UK Dance chart and #3 on the UK Singles chart. He collected his singles into an EP, "Snacks", and then into a full-length album, Snacks (Supersize).

In 2018 he began working with Martin Solveig under the name "Europa"; the duo have released two singles, "All Day and Night" (with Madison Beer) and "Tequila" (with Raye). He has also released several non-album singles, and another EP, "Deep Joy".

Discography

  • Snacks (Supersize) (2019)

What you, what you gon' trope?

  • Alliterative Name: Jax Jones.
  • Celebrity Resemblance: A girl in the audience (played by Raye) in the "Tequila" video gets a chyron, "FAMOUS LOOKALIKE - People say I look like Raye".
  • Cleavage Window: Raye's musician outfit in the "Tequila" video has this, and a short skirt to go with it.
  • Creator Thumbprint: A clip of MNEK saying, "What you, what you gon' do?" from "House Work" is included in almost every song, usually near the beginning. In Jax's videos, he is generally depicted saying this line.
  • Dancing with Myself: The little girl in the "You Don't Know Me" music video is just dancing around the house.
  • Face on a Milk Carton: The product package for "All 4 U" is a milk carton, so in the video, Jax Jones is shown on the side, marked "Missing. Male, Black Cap. Last seen: Demolishing bare Snacks."
  • Game Show: The "Tequila" video shows an odd game show where Jax, Martin Solveig, and Raye are the hosts, players, band, audience members, and more, all in different costumes.
  • House Music: His work generally falls in this genre.
  • Ironic Name: His stage name comes from slang for doing things on your own, but he works with 15 different feature artists on Snacks (Supersize). Discussed in the album's outro track, where he gives the origin of the stage name and names the people who helped him make the album.
  • The Oner: Not quite one shot - there are several spots where cuts could easily be made - but the music video for "You Don't Know Me" is in this style, following a young girl as she dances around a house.
  • Recurring Element:
    • Household product packaging, mostly food items, on the cover images. Each song on Snacks has a specific item associated with it, such as a sriracha bottle for "Instruction", Froot Loops for "You Don't Know Me" or a cleaner bottle for "House Work". The lyric videos often have the lyrics appearing on these items. Real-life versions of the packages show up in live-action versions in later videos, such as the sriracha bottle and the cereal box in the background of the "This is Real" video.
    • A particular stylized image of him is used in several videos and on cover images.
  • There Was a Door: At the end of the "You Don't Know Me" video, the little girl breaks through a wall, revealing a room where Jax is sitting, eating Froot Loops.
  • A Wild Rapper Appears!: Shows up in several songs, such as Rich the Kid in "Ring Ring" or Stefflon Don in "Instruction".
