"What have they done to me? Obviously, I have been captured, brainwashed, transformed into a vampire then forced against my will to tear my friends and master to bloody shreds. Was that the sort of explanation you were hoping for, Seras? I answer to no man's will but my own. I am myself in mind, body and soul. I am Walter C. Dornez, the Angel of Death."
Walter C. Dornez

Alucard and the Royal Order of Protestant Knights have been fighting monsters since the 19th century. In this dark world where vampires stalk the night, characters both nefarious and those who will make sacrifices for the greater good manage to stand out for their plotting.

Manga & OVA
  • Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing is the ruthless leader of the Hellsing Organization, having assumed command as a mere child by murdering her treacherous family and asserting such dominance over others that her leadership went unquestioned. Having sole mastery over the monstrous Alucard, Integra utilizes him over the years in snuffing out potential vampire and demonic threats, successfully protecting the world over in style and secrecy from evil. When Millennium begins launching attacks on Hellsing and London itself, Integra keeps a cool head and comes up with traps and strategies on the fly, staying one step ahead of her foes and facing down near-death with stoic fierceness. Manipulating even the Iscariot organization to her assistance, Integra overcomes Millennium and the Major through use of Alucard and her own resolve, personally executing the Major while shutting down his insane ideology before going on to reign as the respected leader of Hellsing for decades more to come.
  • Alexander Anderson is the Iscariot Organization's best agent, a lethal, gleefully brutal hunter of all manner of evil monsters and "heathens". A kind man to those around him who raises orphaned children and tries to avoid civilian casualties, Anderson is a vicious beast to his enemies, able to set up traps, ambushes and wholesale slaughters of those he finds deserving with little effort on his part. Despite his loathing for Hellsing and its Protestant leader Sir Integra, Anderson comes to respect and even ally with Integra during Millennium's invasion of London, Anderson later betraying his Iscariot leader Enrico Maxwell when the man becomes a narcissistic mass murderer. One of the few men able to stand up to Alucard on equal combat footing, Anderson ultimately tears a path of destruction through an army of demons to face down Alucard, using Helena's Nail to give himself a power boost and nearly slay the ancient vampire king. Even as he dies, Anderson offers his respect and parting words of encouragement to Alucard, cementing himself as the most worthy opponent Alucard ever faced.
  • Pip Bernadotte is the latest in a line of bloodthirsty mercenaries and brilliant leader of the Wild Geese. Recruited by Hellsing after much of their forces are killed, Pip assaults a base of Millennium affiliates, killing them all before helping Alucard and his own Love Interest, Seras Victoria, escape. Later faced with the forces of the vile Zorin Blitz, Pip cuts down her vampire forces with landmines before holding them off from the Hellsing manor, even using his death to empower the vampiric Seras into slaughtering their foes.
  • The Captain, the Millennium Nazis' ruthless and stoic chief warrior, is the most noble of the depraved group. An intelligent fighter who once subdued young Walter C. Dornez in Warsaw 55 years prior, the Captain serves the Major's will in present day. Shooting Heinkel Wolfe in the face, but sparing her out of mercy and his own purposes, the Captain directs Integra to find the Major before engaging Seras and luring her to the one place she might kill him. Providing her with a silver tooth to do the job and complete his death wish, the Captain dies with a happy grin on his face like a child awakening from a long dream.

OVA only

  • Walter C. Dornez, the Angel of Death, is the true mole in Hellsing for Millennium. A brilliant soldier since World War II, Walter feared losing his strength and being forgotten in old age while also desiring to give Alucard the death he deserved. Both betraying Hellsing to Millennium and coordinating his and Seras's counterattack, Walter is the one who allowed Integra to awaken Alucard and allows himself to be turned into a vampire. Facing Alucard and nearly killing him in his weakened state, Walter is left hollow upon Alucard's seeming death and instead decides to put an end to Millennium. Trapping the Nazi Doctor, Walter kills him and destroys the source of Millennium's vampires, passing away with a final tribute to Integra and remarking on his desire to give Alucard the death his friend desired, more graceful even than his brilliant manga original counterpart.

2001 Anime

  • This version of Walter C. Dornez, the Angel of Death, is Integra Fairbrook Hellsing's genuinely loyal retainer. So feared by her treacherous uncle that he would not launch his coup until Walter was visiting South America, Walter is a master vampire hunter who has fought the true legions of the undead and leads the counterattack against Jan Valentine, demolishing his forces with only himself and Seras Victoria. Later steering Integra to Alucard and Incognito's fight, Walter prepares to give his own life for Integra's sake, ending as he calmly remarks on Alucard, his old friend and comrade's true immortality.
  • This version of Father Alexander Anderson is an agent of Iscariot's Section XIII dispatched to deal with an Italian student-turned-vampire killing in England. Luring out Hellsing to the vampire's location, Anderson springs a trap, killing their men and aiming to murder their mighty vampire Alucard as well. After being forced to withdraw, Anderson confronts Alucard once more, trapping and temporarily killing the vampire and even fights until being completely maimed but remaining undaunted, winning Alucard's respect to the point he spares the priest to face him yet again.

Other Works

  • Crossfire prototype: Heinkel Wolfe is one of the elites of Section XIII. A devoted member of Iscariot, Heinkel introduces herself when a group of Islamic terrorists takes a Catholic delegation hostage. Awakening her vicious partner Yumie Takagi and skillfully gunning down any before her, Heinkel resorts to a tactical bluff, risking the life of the priest to give Yumie a shot at her opponent. Later cornering a group of communist terrorists, Heinkel uses an arms dealer company to gain access, then uses Yumie as bait to get into their hotel room and massacre the lot of them. As devoted a Paladin of the church as Father Alexander Anderson himself, Heinkel exemplifies the best of Section XIII.
