We weren't kidding about the title.

RRRrrr!!! is a 2004 French comedy directed by and starring Alain Chabat. The cast also includes Maurice Barthélemy, Jean-Paul Rouve, Pierre-François Martin-Laval, Élise Larnicol, Pascal Vincent, Gérard Depardieu, Marina Foïs, Jean Rochefort and Valérie Lemercier.

It is about a bumbling prehistoric tribe attempting to solve the first ever murder 35,000 years ago. Meanwhile, a rival tribe seeks to learn their secret: shampoo. Hilarity Ensues.

Not to be confused with RRR.

Tropes:

  • Anachronism Stew: Played for laughs. The Clean Hairs have invented shampoo. The chief has a dream where he runs into a modern hardware store. A hafted axe is used.
  • Artistic License – Paleontology: Every animal has tusks and a name ending in "moth" ("mouth" in French) as a play on mammoth.
  • Fanservice: Plenty of topless women are shown in the bathing scene.
  • Fur Bikini: Mostly averted but at least one of the Clean Hair women dresses like this.
  • Hollywood Prehistory: It's supposed to be 35,000 years ago but that doesn't stop the occasional dinosaur from showing up.
  • Informed Attractiveness: The chief likes to point out that his wife is beautiful.
  • Kick the Dog: A literal example where kicking a small dog stationed outside a cave is treated like ringing a doorbell.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Blondy (his real name is Pierre).
  • Planet of Steves: Every member of the Clean Hair tribe is named Pierre (the French equivalent of Peter which means "stone").
  • Too Dumb to Live: The Dirty Hair chief takes himself hostage as a bargaining chip for the shampoo secret (delivering his own hand as proof) and executes himself at midnight when the deal isn't made.
  • Well, This Is Not That Trope: The movie opens on an Opening Scroll telling the heroic story of an american platoon in vietnam:
"On May 9th 1969, Two miles off the northern border of Laos, the 101st infantry division of the US Army moves towards hill 937. For them, it's a simple recon mission. For the Viet-cong, Hill 937 is a crucial checkpoint. The dozen recruits of the 101, barely trained for combat, should have completed this routine mission in less than two hours. They will hold on heroically for nine days. This movie does not tell their story."
