Fanfic / Multiverse Of Michelangelo

Go To

Multiverse of Michelangelo is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise-wide crossover created by Srae13. It can be read on Archive of Our Own here.

A mysterious figure has been kidnapping Michelangelo's all across the Multiverse, driving multiple versions of himself, his friends, and family to work together to figure out how to put this figure to a stop and return the kidnapped Michelangelo's to their families.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Villainy: In canon, there's no indication that Casey Junior's Master Michelangelo is capable of sacrificing every other version of himself for the sake of his own happiness.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Cass calls Mikey 'Murder Machine'. The IDW Raph finds this to be alarming.
  • All for Nothing: After everything Psychoangelo does to bring his family back, they are horrified by the suffering he's caused and set out to undo what he's done.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: Michelangelo in all universes, including Universe 2018, where the age order is swapped.
  • Back from the Dead: The goal of Ronin and Master Michelangelo is to bring back their deceased families. Ronin's brothers and Universe 2012's Splinter are brought back by Little Mikey. Unfortunately, it happens just in time for them to watch their Mikeys lose their cores. As a result, Master Michelangelo gets his wish and brings back his family, despite their souls passing on.
  • Berserker Tears: Plenty galore after Master Michelangelo steals every other Mikey's core. Most come from the Raphaels, but Mikey declares that he's going to kill his older self through tears after Red sacrifices himself.
  • Big Brother Instinct: The Fic. Especially since every version of Michelangelo is The Baby of the Bunch, his three older brothers are pissed about their brother being separated from them and put in danger. When 2012!Leo says that he'd do anything to get his deceased father back, his alternate selves correct him, pointing out that he wouldn't give up his little brothers, as they're most important to the Leos.
  • Big Damn Reunion: Quite a few, given the nature of this fic.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: Realizing that the main characters are becoming a problem, Psychoangelo decides to do this to Prime, 161, 87, Ranger, Pizza, Skate, Injustice, Blobboid, Ooze, Time, and Space.
  • The Cameo: Bruce Wayne and other Batman characters make a short appearance after the Batman Vs. TMNT characters are brought in.
  • Dead for Real: Master Michelangelo's family. They do come back, but quickly decide to undo their resurrection to restore the Mikeys' cores.
  • Death Wail: A particularly disturbing example, as every single version of the brothers who are present for the final fight is grieving their baby brother, and so the sound of wailing is especially loud. Special mention goes to Blue and Purple after watching Mikey get killed by his older self not long after Red's death.
  • Distant Finale: The last story arc takes place a year after the final battle, where the main players reunite when the 2003 turtles hold a one year reunion.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: The person kidnapping all the Michelangelos, Master Michelangelo dearly loves his own family, including Casey Junior, and is willing to sacrifice every single other Michelangelo in the multiverse to raise them from the dead. When Casey Junior expresses doubt that Master Michelangelo loved him, Leo assures him that despite everything, he does believe that the old man loved CJ.
  • Everyone's Baby Brother: The kidnapping plot would not be taken well if it targeted any of the brothers, but the fact that it endangered the youngest member of each family is especially infuriating, proving that Mikey is this in every universe.
  • Filler: Interlude: The Leo Kitchen Curse doesn't really do much to push the story along, apart from establishing that Master Michelangelo can see Ronin's brothers, but it is a very welcome cool down.
  • Four-Temperament Ensemble: As it's explained to Michael, the four brothers each serve a role that acts as their core.
  • Good Parents: Most of the Splinters are this, with Rise!Splinter and 2003!Splinter both treating the alternate versions of their sons as if they're their own sons.
  • The Heart: The reason Michelangelo is so important.
  • Howl of Sorrow: There's no shortage of these after Psychoangelo wins. But 2012!Raph is outright described as letting out a roar when he watches his family grieve Mikey.
  • It's All About Me: The only way to describe someone willing to sacrifice every other version of him and tear apart every other version of his family for the sake of being happy with his own family.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Cassandra and Little Mikey.
  • The Multiverse: One that borrows from every iteration of the TMNT. This includes the comics, movies, cartoons, and even some lesser-known iterations, such as the non-canon 2012 specials, or the Injustice 2 Video Game.
  • Oh, Crap!: The reaction 2012!April and 2018!Splinter have when they see the cracked nunchucks.
  • One-Steve Limit: So. Many. Variations. Of. The. Same. Cast. As a result, whenever a new team is introduced, they're given a new set of nicknames. Thankfully, after the crossing over really kicks in, the author starts to put a key for who has what nickname in the notes at the beginning of every chapter.
  • Out of Focus: Of course, not every universe can be main players, but it feels like special mention should go to the 2007 Turtles, who are introduced early, left behind to keep up secrecy, a decision that is made redundant the next time the 2003 Turtles go to a new universe, left to twiddle their thumbs while the main characters figure stuff out, and are only brought back into the story by accident.
  • Point of Divergence: All of this could have been avoided if only Master Michelangelo was Dead for Real like his canon counterpart.
  • The Reveal: Who is kidnapping Michelangelos and why? It's Master Michelangelo, the future version of Rise's Mikey, who wants to drain all Mikey's of their cores in order to get a wish that will bring back his dead family. Little Mikey starts recruiting other Mikey's to combat this, which is what happened to Mike and Party.
  • Red Herring: Towards the beginning, you would be forgiven for believing that the person kidnapping Michelangelos is Rise!Mikey. Well, the truth is more complicated, as the real villain is the older version of him, from Casey Junior's Bad Future.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: Master Michelangelo, the one from Rise's Bad Future, who raised Casey Junior.
  • Spared By Adaptation: Ronin is saved from the brink of death at the last moment by Master Michelangelo.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: All Purple wanted to do was beat his counterparts at chess. He didn't know that this would be how Pshycoangelo would learn about the multiverse.
  • Wham Shot: A couple at the end of chapter 41.
    • Mikey, who already confirmed that he can bring back Ronin's brothers also brings back the body of Master Splinter from Universe 2012.
Mikey: If I knew your dad was waiting, I would have brought him back a while ago.
    • Just as Ronin is finally about to reunite with his brothers, he is abruptly pierced through the chest with one of Master Michelangelo's chains.
  • Younger Than They Look: Master Michelangelo is actually only a little bit older than Ronin, but his overuse of his mystic abilities caused him to age rapidly.
