Fanfic / Deliverance (Worm)

Go To

Deliverance is a crossover fanfiction of Worm and The Elder Scrolls where a post-Golden Morning Taylor/Khepri ends up in Skyrim.

Gold Morning is over. Khepri won. Exiled to a world of wonder and magic, humanity's savior decides to make the most of her situation... and start her own business. But what are these large bugs that keep calling her 'Queen?

  • Adaptational Heroism: Certain characters that were villains in the videogame are more heroic here.
    • Mercer Frey, instead of taking over the Thieves' Guild by killing Gallus and framing Karliah, is instead portrayed as one who became the leader in the aftermath of Gallus' Undignified Death and who tries to return the Guild to its previous glory.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Similarly, some of the player's allies and/or people considered good have become villainous.
    • Sinding, the man who accidentally killed a child because he made the mistake of stealing Hircine's Ring, cursing him to spontaneously transform into a mindless werewolf, is here a cannibalistic werewolf Serial Killer.
  • Amnesiac Dissonance: Khepri/Taylor's memories are fragmented and incomplete, so she is more emotionally open than Taylor because she lacks many of the memories of Emma's bullying and the resulting trauma.
  • Artificial Limbs: Taylor's arm cannot be regenerated by the time she gets to a proper healer, so she ends up using these.
  • Chest of Medals: Khepri is unable to refuse multiple awards after the assault on the Falmer, much to her displeasure, resulting in this. She's incredibly relieved when she confirms that she can take the Chain of Skyrim off for the particular event that she's dressing up for.
  • Cut Lex Luthor a Check: Khepri is frequently experimenting with financial usages for her powers, like making honey (and from there, mead).
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • Grelod, the woman running Riften's Orphanage of Fear, is executed after being discovered whipping a child.
    • Ancano, the Arc Villain for the College of Winterhold storyline, dies when Cicero trips him into the deadly barrier protecting the Eye of Mundus.
  • The Dreaded: Khepri quickly develops a terrifying reputation, particularly among Skyrim's seedier elements, after participating in the fight to exterminate the Falmer.
  • Female Gaze: Attractive men are a dime a dozen around Skyrim, and Taylor's not shy about looking.
  • Final Solution: The Falmer will not negotiate or stop trying to kill Taylor to reassert control over "their" Chaurus slaves, so she and a large alliance work to wipe them out. They succeed.
  • Genre Savvy: Ulfric Stormcloak. He chooses not to recruit Khepri for his rebellion, not only because the resulting escalation by the Imperials would be more than his side can handle, but also because letting her focus instead on her business pursuits would be good for both morale and Skyrim's economy.
  • Glad He's On Our Side: Pretty much the consensus of everyone who's ever witnessed Khepri fight.
  • Handicapped Badass: Taylor's arm is unable to be magically healed, so she uses prosthetic replacements. It fails to slow her down much at all.
  • It Can Think: The Chaurus turn out to be intelligent, and only follow the Falmer because the Falmer enslaved them.
  • Living Lie Detector: Taylor has developed her skills with insects to the point that she can monitor a person's vitals and tell if they're lying.
  • Made of Iron: Much like in canon, Taylor has an insanely high pain tolerance. For example, when she complained about her stump feeling somewhat sore from her prothesis, the locals were terrified and wondering how she wasn't screaming from the pain.
  • Mundane Utility: One of the common usages of Khepri's powers is making sure that bedbugs and other parasites stay away from Dawnstar, as well as making honey. The Nords are very appreciative of the latter, since honey is one of the main ingredients in making mead.
  • Reluctant Ruler: Taylor isn't happy about being made the Thane of Skyrim after defeating the Falmer, though she's at least going to do her best to do the job right.
  • Retired Badass: Khepri/Taylor is trying to make a life for herself and her Chaurus in Skyrim, though she'll fight if she or they are threatened.
  • Running Gag: People almost feeling sorry for the Falmer, knowing they're up against Khepri, then getting over it.
  • Slave Race:
    • The Chaurus are this to the Falmer.
    • The Falmer also use captives and half-Falmer hybrids as slave labor.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Due to Taylor arriving several months before the canon beginning to Skyrim, several people survive past the day they died, such as Torygg or Katria (the woman whose corpse, and ghost, the main character finds in the quest "Lost to the Ages").
  • Take a Third Option: With regards to the Civil War. After the Muster to exterminate the Falmer, High King Torygg and Ulfric Stormcloak appear to find an acceptable compromise regarding the ban on Talos worship, and are working together to achieve it.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Maven Black-Briar is clearly headed in this direction.
    • The Thalmor, after their divinations reveal (a heavily metaphor-laden version of) Khepri's backstory. They're now determined to see her dead, no matter the cost.
  • Translator Microbes: Khepri is initially unable to understand the language of Skyrim, but Contessa somehow uploads the knowledge into her brain when she looks at an image produced by Tinkertech.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Zigzagged. Some people keep thinking, wrongly, that they can take the one-armed beekeeper. Others have the experience to recognize just how pants-shittingly terrifying she is.
  • Wrong Context Magic: Taylor retains her insect-controlling powers here, despite them being Shard-derived and not magic.
