Fanfic / Cool Cat Saves Vietnam

Go To

Cool Cat Saves Vietnam is a satirical Crack Fic of Cool Cat Saves the Kids. It was published on April 4, 2023. It can be read here.

Fed up with his son no longer being in the spotlight, Daddy Derek arranges for a second Vietnam war to occur. Even though he has no idea what war entails, Cool Cat is more than happy to serve his country, America. However, since he's a sheltered manchild, Cool Cat unintentionally ends up causing more damage to the world rather than fixing it. Still, can he pull himself together and save the day?

The fanfiction is actually a parody of one of the books in the Cool Cat series, Cool Cat Loves The Soldiers. It was published before Cool Cat was adapted into a movie.

Has examples of

  • Adaptational Jerkass: Daddy Derek is willing to have Cool Cat possibly die in a war all because he wanted some alone time with his wife.
  • Adaptation Personality Change: Daddy Derek is actually disillusioned with his son and views him as an Attention Whore, and making movies about him is how he convinces him he's special.
Cool Cat, his dearest and very genetically related son, hadn’t been in a film for almost 4 years. It was weighing down on him hard since convincing Cool Cat that he’s famous was how Daddy Derek kept him off Daddy Derek’s back for a while. But Daddy hadn’t had his alone time with Mama Cat in a long time. That was unacceptable.
  • All for Nothing: The reason Daddy Derek staged a Second Vietnam War was because he wanted to get Cool Cat out of his house while he gets...cosy with Mama Cat. However Cool Cat finishes the war in a matter of seconds and returns home unscathed.
  • Ambiguously Human: Cool Cat's immunity to razors, traps, wires and the like implies that he is no ordinary human or cat, and is possibly something more.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Daddy Derek started a second war in Vietnam, but it's not stated how he pushed Vietnam to join the conflict with the US. He also claims to have made the war up, but as the fic progresses it turns out the war is actually real.
  • Book Dumb: Cool Cat is barely literate (or at least dyslexic).
“Cool Cat!” Daddy Derek ran over to his blood relative son and caressed his fuzzy cheek. “I have a new movie for you to be in, Son. It’s a real good one this time. I think, if you were in it, it’d sell big “B” billions across the globe.” Daddy Derek handed Cool Cat a script he had printed moments ago. It was still warm and the ink looked wet.

Cool Cat picked up the freshly baked pages and gasped. “Woooooah! Noooo waaaay! Cool Cat Saves the Vitamins? I’ve always wanted to be in a health movie! Maybe you can use special effects to shrink me down and go into a body!”

Daddy Derek shook his head and struggled to keep his faked smile up. “No, no, Cool Cat. It’s Vietnam! We’re going to kick off a new Vietnam War and you’re going to star in it.”
  • The Bully: Cool Cat frequently accuses Butch of bullying others, even though Butch never does anything of the sort. It's Cool Cat who comes off as the bully because he dismisses Butch's legitimate concerns about the war.
  • Cheerful Child: Cool Cat is this to the point it unnerves the Viet Cong, who don't understand why he's trying to declare himself their friend as they shoot at him.
  • Child Soldiers: Deconstructed. Butch is terrified of being in a war and protests constantly, but he's always ignored.
  • Children Are Innocent: Cool Cat, being a child, doesn't understand why his supervisors nickname him "Agent Orange" (as a reference to the deadly agent the US sprayed over Vietnam during the war leading to the birth defects of many Vietnamese children) and thinks it's a "cool nickname".
  • Dirty Commies: Cool Cat is told that the people he's fighting plan to spread Marxist Propaganda to the youth, and it's up to him to stop them.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: As stupid as he is, Cool Cat objects to the notion that he should be allowed to use a gun. However, the sergeant gives him permission anyway.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Butch may be a vile person who steals candy from babies, but when Cool Cat jumps headfirst into a bomb, Butch tries to save him by grabbing his tail, and is actually horrified when he believes Cool Cat has died. However, it turns out Cool Cat is invincible and the bombs have no effect on him.
  • Idiot Hero: Cool Cat is oblivious to the sounds of the screaming passengers on the plane and doesn't even notice that they've died because he's so excited about jumping into a war.
  • Interspecies Romance: Daddy Derek is an adult man who lusts for a cat-person. And while this is a Crack Fic, this is actually true to canon.
  • National Stereotypes: After Cool Cat gives an invigorating speech to his fellow US plane passengers, everyone, even the children, pull out rifles from their suitcases.
  • Narcissist: Daddy Derek is so self centered that he believes he can make a film on par with Avatar: The Way of Water.
  • Nigh-Invulnerable: Cool Cat survives bombs, bullets and all the Viet Cong's traps.
  • Oblivious to Hatred: Cool Cat doesn't realize that Daddy Derek is fed up with his presence and is actually trying to get away from him.
  • Only Sane Man:
    • Butch the Bully is the only one who questions the morality of using child soldiers in war. However, Cool Cat dismisses him.
Butch, whose eyes looked wet and puffy, turned to see his classmate standing right next to him. “Oh no,” he muttered. He looked rough with rips in his pants and a few dark red stains on his shirt. Mud was caked on his bare arms and his hands looked calloused. “Why are you here? This isn’t a place for kids like us.”

Cool Cat pointed both thumbs at his chest and laughed. Then he gasped. “This is the setting for the new movie I’m gonna be in! I’m gonna be the hero who saves Vietnam!” He sounded proud but tilted his head and placed his hands on his hips. “What are YOU doing here, Butch the Bully? Here to bully the troops?”
    • Daddy Derek also falls into this near the end of the fic.
“Daddy Derek,” cheered Cool Cat. “I’ve come back from Vietnam and we won!”

Daddy Derek toppled over onto the other side of the bed and pulled his discarded shirt up to his chest while Mama Cat ducked under the sheets. “Wh-What?” Daddy Derek looked confused and panicked. “B-But the first one took twenty years. How did you win the war in one day?”

Cool Cat shrugged. “I was just playing tag and everybody ran off! When everybody else caught up, they said we had won! The other team had given up! I saved Vietnam!”

Daddy Derek grimaced. “Glad to have you back, Cool Cat…”
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Once the Vietnamese people see Cool Cat's prowess, they realize they can't beat him and surrender.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Cool Cat turns his phone off airplane mode when it hasn't landed yet. Because of this, the plane starts to tremble and fall. Artistic License applies here since in Real Life, turning off your phone's airplane mode will have no effect on the plane.
  • The Power of Lust: Daddy Derek is motivated to fund a war and build an entire set in Vietnam to keep Cool Cat away while he sexes Mama Cat. It's also implied, for the same reason, that he made movies just to stop Cool Cat from bothering him.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: The fic would like to remind you many times that Cool Cat is Daddy Derek's biological son.
  • War Is Glorious: Played for Laughs - Cool Cat doesn't know what a war is and never actually harms the Vietnamese people, though he brags about being drafted.
