A Certain Holiday Season is A Certain Magical Index fanfic written by Major Major Major Major that is about Kamijou Touma's Christmas Vacation:

As winter descends on Academy City, the war between Magic and Science has cooled. Kamijou Touma's efforts to enjoy the relative calm are shattered in predictable fashion by the abrupt entrance of Misaka Mikoto. Together they brave the perils of the Christmas season, but behind the scenes something dark broods. Something dark and... yet... festive? Note: Set after NT12.

Examples

  • A-Cup Angst: Misaka Mikoto:
soon her ego was fixated on only one aspect of the newcomer.
"H-h... H-h-h..." Don't say huge don't say huge don't don't ... Why are so many of these magician girls so busty!? Wait. Is there... IS THERE A SPELL FOR THAT!?
  • Anti-Magic: Touma's Imagine Breaker in his right hand, which nullifies magic and esper powers on contact.
  • Big Bad: Amazo the Magician appears to be this for the first arc, but his assistant, Miss Baker, turns out to be the person pulling the strings, Miss Baker proceeds to be the main threat for the Second Arc along with her summons, but her true master, The First takes her place in the Third and Final Arc.
  • Born Unlucky: Imagine Breaker apparently nullifies any good luck heading Touma's way. Case in point, the first chapter: Mikoto wonders how his jacket has three massive tears in it. Touma explains that that morning, Index attacked him for not stocking up on Yorkshire pudding for Christmas, making him have to climb out the balcony and over to Tsuchimikado's to escape her. He slipped and fell down one story onto a different balcony, the jacket catching onto a loose nail and tearing. Mikoto notes that only explains one rip, but not the other two; turns out the balcony Touma fell onto was that of a partially undressed woman that went at him with a knife, but he was just lucky enough that his jacket had fallen onto his head, concealing his identity and absorbing the knife blows. She got off two slashes before Touma could escape, so he had to wear a ruined jacket the entire last school day before winter break.
  • Breast Expansion: Misaka wonders about a spell to make girls busty:
Why are so many of these magician girls so busty!? Wait. Is there... IS THERE A SPELL FOR THAT!?
  • Feed It with Fire: The snow-golem can incorporate new snow into itself, like the snowballs of the snowball fight its participating in.
  • Golem: Discussed in general: Chapter 32: "In lore, golems are known for their regenerative properties."
"Golems in Jewish Kabbalah are always symbols of unfinished work, okay!? So if she keeps adding snow to it, it acts like it has to finish itself again! It's VERY annoying!""
    • Discussed in footnotes:
A golem is really just a golem: a man-like creature formed from non-living matter. It's a stretch, and it doesn't work well, but I feel I can justify using snow instead of earth for it: it's just substituting an element. Besides, there exists lore about creatures of ice and such, so as long at that can be adapted it would probably at least work, if not as well as more standard earth golems.
  • Improvised Golems: The snow-golem of the snowball fight is made on the spot: "I never tried to use this type of spell with snow as the medium before instead of clay or dirt! It's not quite as simple as substituting earth with water glyphs, you know, and the thing keeps trying to melt!" And its said that "it was improvised from a standard construct spell".
  • Invisibility: Charlotte Miller can turn invisible:
for the briefest of instants a girl on her knees was revealed where Touma had tumbled. The attack struck her arm, and fell over again, crying in protest. She went invisible again, but a shout rang out from above.
"CHARLOTTE MILLER, you've been hit! You're out, so if you don't turn visible and make your way back to your base, you'll disqualify your team!"
  • Oblivious to Love: It's difficult to say what's more baffling, Touma's ability to gain the affection of girls or his utter inability to realize it. It's one of Mikoto's biggest frustrations. Then again, it's partially justified through his Humble Hero and Born Unlucky nature: Touma doesn't believe he'd ever be lucky enough for a pretty girl to fall for him. But eventually Mikoto manages to win his affection.
  • Pull the I.V.: Part 3: Chapter 1: Touma knows what to do:
"Right. Anyone outside?" He stumbled when his feet hit the floor, but soon he was mobile, carefully prying at his IV drip.
    "[S]hould you be removing that?"
"Hmmm? Oh, yeah, it's nearly empty anyway, and they did a clean insertion. I've done this before: just shut the drip off at the roller clamp, remove the taping, and then cover with a sterile bandage."
  • Relationship Upgrade: Touma and Mikoto become a couple at the story's end. In the Distant Finale fourteen years later, they're married and have two kids.
  • Shock and Awe: Electromasters, like Misaka Mikoto, have the power to control electricity and magnetism.
  • Snowball Fight: One is scheduled and had as part of the 'Christmas Day Festive-Team-Building-Games and Exercises'.
4:00! An hour long 4 way snowball fight with capture the flag in the courtyard!
  • Snowlems: Chapter 32: "It rose up in a solid roaring mass twenty feet tall, like a bubble inflating in broiling soapy water, before coalescing into a vaguely man-shaped figure." Also described as a snow-golem: "Hey! Hey, you inside the snow-golem!"
  • Speak in Unison: Chapter 58:
Across the world, they shouted together.
"I don't need a reason to save someone!"
  • Think in Text: In the notes at the start of the first chapter:
    Normal text is narration
    "Quotes for speech"
    Italics for thought
    Bold for emphasis, rarely used.
  • Tsundere: Mikoto as usual bounces between blushing around Touma and throwing bolts of electricity at him.
  • Two Scenes, One Dialogue: Chapter 58:
Touma stretched out his hand. "But even so, I'll try to do what I want."
    !~~~~~~~~~!
Mikoto pointed one finger. "I'll make things right, because I want to."
    !~~~~~~~~~!
"It's not about compromising my ideals..."
    !~~~~~~~~~!
"...Because I can change them if it helps. They don't matter."
    !~~~~~~~~~!
"If what I want is to try, to try to do something..."
    !~~~~~~~~~!
"...Then I have the right to try. To do what I can."
    !~~~~~~~~~!
    "And If I make mistakes¦"
    !~~~~~~~~~!
"...It's just my job to fix them."
    !~~~~~~~~~!
    "So what it's really about..."
    !~~~~~~~~~!
    "...Is actually kind of simple."
    !~~~~~~~~~!
Across the world, they shouted together.
"I don't need a reason to save someone!"
