Bernard Hill (December 17, 1944 - May 5, 2024) was a British actor.
He was best known for his roles as Captain Edward J. Smith in Titanic and as King Théoden in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings film series. Notably, these two roles made him the first actor to star in two films that grossed $1 billion at the box office, as they (specifically, The Return of the King for the latter) were the first to hit that mark, and the first actor to star in two films that won 11 Oscars. In addition, with his small role in Gandhi, he held the distinction of being in three films that won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
Hill also narrated numerous documentaries for the BBC, including the series Wild China.
