    The Wanderer

Female Wanderer voiced by: Kira Buckland (EN), Ayane Sakura (JP)

Male Wanderer voiced by: Brandon Winckler (EN), Hiro Shimono (JP)

One of two characters the player picks in the prologue to determine their gender. A wanderer of unknown origin, they were on an unspecified mission alongside another person in Aesperia until they were caught by the Heirs of Aida and had their memories of the meeting wiped out. Upon waking up in Astra Shelter afterward and helping its inhabitants, they later learn they are an Executor, an agent of Hykros granted time-warping powers to accomplish the organization's ultimate goal: save the planet Aida.
  • Action Hero: Rarely does a quest end without a lot of butt-kicking as is expected for an apocalyptic planet, not even in the safest of cities. Archon Elric notes that they excel in combat, and that hasn't faded at all with their memory wipe.
  • Amnesiac Hero: A big focus of the early story is the Wanderer coming to understand their role as the Executor and what they did before ending up in Aesperia. Klema in Chapter 1 reveals that they are an Executor who went MIA along with their squad on an operation six months prior to the present, though what happened on said operation remains unknown to everyone.
  • Audience Surrogate: As they don't have memories prior to being found in Aida, many characters bring them up to speed on the current situation of all the worlds.
  • Everyone Calls Them Barkeep: For the most part, they are usually addressed with various gender-neutral names and titles. In other contexts, they are addressed as "Executor" when working as one or speaking with members of Hykros, most prevalent in Aesperia and Vera; in Domain 9, they are given authority as a Domain Guard, hence people there usually calling them one.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Though the Simulacra system allows them to wield all manner of weaponry, they use a standard-issue EM Blade in cutscenes.
  • Instant Expert: Thanks to the Simulacra system, they're able to synchronize with a Simulacra's memories to instantly master how to use their weapon.
  • "Just Frame" Bonus: Timing a dodge before an enemy attack creates a violet dome that lasts for a few seconds, in which enemies slow down for you to attack. According to Klema in Chapter 1, this power is called "Phantasia", "a human-generated temporal distortion in a localized area" unique to members of Hykros's Executor Order.

    Mi-a
A doll-sized fourth-generation smart servant android once dug up by Zeke and follows Shirli around, later accompanying the Wanderer on their travels throughout Aida. She often stutters as she speaks due to a faulty language module, but she otherwise is a faithful helper to the Wanderer.
  • Electronic Speech Impediment: Her damaged language module makes her speak with a stutter. As an older model, Mirroria lacks a compatible replacement part to fix it.
  • Robot Buddy: She serves as Shirli's assistant, but after Shirli and Zeke leave Astra Shelter, the Wanderer takes her under their wing. A sidequest in Domain 9 lets Mi-a participate in battle.

Nemesis

Grade: SSR
Weapon: Venus
Gender: Female
Height: 165cm
Birthday: May 23rd
Birthplace: Unknown

A cheerful, adventurous girl and Zeke's little sister, is there alongside him when the Wanderer wakes up in Astra Shelter. She cares for everyone in the Shelter and is ready to do her part for them—until a fateful attack by the Hyenas damaged her suppressor and nearly turns her into an Aberrant. Unwilling to end her life before the infection takes her over, Zeke took her to the Heirs of Aida for help.

The end result is Shirli becoming Nemesis, a battle-ready cyborg designated the 5th Angel of Clemency, subservient to the Heirs until she is rescued by the Wanderer and Zeke. By the end of Chapter 1, with her brother disappearing from stopping the Heirs' time-fracturing bomb, she accompanies the Wanderer to Vera, where it's speculated her brother has been transported.
  • Artificial Limbs: Most of the left side of her body is adorned in red metal plating, especially her artificial arm, leg, and an amplification goggle over her left eye, though that's only all the augments seen on the surface.
  • Break the Cutie: Compare the cheerful and adventurous Shirli to the quiet and depressed Nemesis. The poor girl's been put through the wringer.
  • Came Back Strong: Besides her nack for gadgets and the ability to project a shield with her suppressor, Shirli was just an ordinary girl. After her conversion into the cyborg Nemesis, she is now capable of maintaining a far stronger shield for longer, mentally control twin floating laser cannons, and act as a living radar for enemies and abnormalities in the environment.
  • Cybernetics Eat Your Soul: The Heirs of Aida attempted to subsume Shirli's personality with Nemesis, though the Wanderer and Zeke were able to stop it from happening.
  • Emergency Transformation: Her brother had the Heirs turn her into a cyborg in order to prevent her from turning into an Aberrant.
  • Future Spandex: Fitting in with her red prosthetics is her wearing a black and white skin-tight suit, though one that accentuates her curves well.
  • Loss of Identity: She admits to the Wanderer in her mail that she's unsure of who she really is and if she can still consider herself as Shirli after all the trauma she experienced.
  • Messy Hair: As Nemesis, her hair looks frizzy with only one loose twin-tail remaining, a depressing reminder of the peppy girl she used to be compared to her quiet self.
  • Series Mascot: Shirli is the face of the game app's icon and features prominently in several advertisements, though Nemesis also shares as much exposure, especially in the Neon Genesis Evangelion crossover promotion images.
  • Taking the Bullet: Shirli moving to defend her brother from a Hyena missile barrage with a barrier overloads her suppressor, leading to Zeke taking her to the Heirs of Aida to convert her into a cyborg to avoid turning into an Aberrant.
