Protagonist
Petkeeper
A young Chinese girl who is the protagonist of the game.
- All of the Other Reindeer: She is shown to be an outcast among her schoolmates and even her family.
- Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": She has no official name besides “Petkeeper”.
- Friendless Background: Prior to meeting Oliver, she had no friends.
- Friend to All Living Things: She enjoys the company of animals, especially cats.
- Introverted Cat Person: She doesn’t have many friends beyond her cats.
- Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Her default look.
- Sensitive Artist: She seems to enjoy art in any medium, and can be quite sensitive.
- Team Mom: What she is to most of the cats. Even Grumpy calls her "mom."
Human cats
Oliver
The first cat the protagonist meets, a young ginger tabby cat.
- Kindly Vet: He aspires to become a vet to help animals, and ends up getting an apprentice job.
- Puppy Love: His relationship with the Petkeeper is as such.
- Shout-Out: He is an orange tabby named Oliver. Where have we seen that before?
- Trademark Favorite Food: Salmon, as well as sweet and sour spare ribs. This is mostly shown in the We Cat app, where his display name is "Salmon".
Boss Mo
An older black cat and another one of the love interests for the Petkeeper. He is also the CEO of the in game company Bad Mouse.
- Caring Gardener: He is very good with plants and is also knowledgeable about them, due to his grandfather teaching him.
- Distinguishing Mark: He has a beauty mark underneath his eye.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: He is this with as shown in several events.
- Informed Attribute: He is said to be older than the player and is called “old man”.
- Lethal Chef: He is not good at cooking, as shown in Chapter 12 (his debut chapter).
- The Stoic: He rarely smiles and is often speaking in a serious manner.
Bangs Cat
An idol and one of the Petkeeper’s cats.
- Cool Big Sis: Her role towards Grumpy.
- Idol Singer: Her profession as shown in several events.
- Intergenerational Friendship: Due to having a close bond with her granny, she has befriended some other seniors while she volunteers at the Senior center.
- Girly Girl And Tomboy: Is this with the Petkeeper.
- Meaningful Name: She is named after the black patch of fur over her eyes, which look like bangs.
- Platonic Life-Partners: She is this with Grumpy as she’s often with him.
Grumpy Cat
Another one of the petkeeper’s cats, distinguished by his eyebrow-like markings.
- In Touch with His Feminine Side: Grumpy is often seen crossdressing and is more sensitive and meek than the other cats.
- Meaningful Name: Grumpy has eyebrow-like markings above his eyes.
- Shrinking Violet: He is shy and nervous.
Yehuda/Alabaster
A psychiatrist who helps the player during a depressive episode.
- Heterosexual Life-Partners: He is this with Mo as shown in their interactions.
- Nice Guy: He’s generally kind and soft spoken, offering helpful advice.
- Meaningful Name: He is a white cat named Alabaster.
- The Shrink: He is introduced as a psychiatrist when the Petkeeper slumps into a depressive episode in Chapter 24.
Humans
Mom
The petkeeper’s mother.
- Anger Born of Worry: The many times she’s gotten angry at the petkeeper is due to her worrying about her future.
- Good Parents: Though she can be a bit overbearing and nagging, she truly cares about her daughter.
- My Beloved Smother: She comes across as this sometimes, especially after her daughter moves out. She is especially worried when she hears her daughter ended up at the hospital in Chapter 23.
- Struggling Single Mother: She had divorced the petkeeper’s father when she was a baby, and has raised her alone ever since.
Rowan Xu
One of the petkeeper’s roommates in college.
- Girly Girland Tomboy: She is this with the petkeeper and Yvonne.
- The Un-Favorite: Her parents mostly focused on her younger brother, leaving her to be raised by her grandparents as revealed in Chapter 20.
Yvonne Yang
Another of the petkeeper’s roommates in college.
- Ambiguously Bi: Both the petkeeper and Rowan believe that she and Cynthia (her senior mentor) are more than just friends. She has however mentioned to like guys.
- Fangirl: Of Luna, the idol. She seems to have named her cat after her.
Luna
An idol whom the petkeeper is a fan of.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She is a very kindhearted person, even sharing the petkeeper’s comic about the Animal Shelter.
- Idol Singer: Her profession. The petkeeper goes to one of her concerts and fan signings during Chapter 9 and Chapter 16, respectively.
Autumn
A wheelchair bound girl who runs the Animal Shelter.
- Shy Blue-Haired Girl: Well, it’s technically more of a teal color.
Other cats
Gumi
The first default cat in the player’s home. He gives helpful hints about the house.
- Crossover Cameo: He is from the video game Animal Restaurant, created by the same developers.
- Talking Animal: He is a talking cat, not to be confused with the human-cats.
