This a list of characters that appear in the Monstrum franchise.

Monsters

Three humanoid monsters that serve as the main antagonist of the game. Within every new game started, one monster will randomly be selected to hunt down the player on the ship.

Brute (Top right), Fiend (Top right), and Hunter (Bottom center)

  • Always Close: The default mechanics of the monsters are set to where each of them will always linger and wander around in the area where you're at, even if they don't know where exactly you are.
  • Ax-Crazy: The monsters are incredibly dangerous and hostile, immediately attempting to kill the player upon spotting them. It's also all but implied that they slaughtered the rest of the crew members as well.
  • Fighter, Mage, Thief: The three monsters could perfectly fit into this trope:
    • The Brute is the fighter, extremely fast and extremely strong, but mindless and stupid.
    • The Hunter is the thief. It's physically weak, and the player can outrun it, but it can skitter through vents and ambush the player and is described as a cunning predator.
    • The Fiend is the mage. It's the slowest monster in the game with relatively low strength, but is supposedly more intelligent than the player. It also has a wide array of telekinetic abilities and is meant to invoke a feeling of powerlessness.
  • Humanoid Abomination: All of the creatures are deformed humanoid abominations that will attempt to kill you.
  • Leitmotif: Each monster has it's own song that plays upon spotting the player.
  • No Sneak Attacks: If the monsters spot you, they will always stop and roar loudly, giving you enough time to start running away.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: The monsters will stop at nothing to hunt you down and kill you.
  • Was Once a Man: At least implied with the Brute, who has one arm that suspiciously looks human. Although whether the others are former humans are up in the air.

     The Brute

A huge, orange lava-like monster who's constantly patrolling the halls.
  • Boring, but Practical: Compared to the likes of the hunter and the fiend, who respectively hunt down the player with stealth and psychokinesis, the Brute has no gimmicks and is rather straightforward. However this doesn't make him any less dangerous than the other monsters.
  • The Brute: Shouldn't be too surprising that he fits this. He relies more of strength and brute force than cunning or intelligence, and he will relentlessly chase down the player upon spotting them, tearing through obstacles and even locked doors.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Well, not eyes per se, but he emits an orange glow from within his head, letting players know when he's near.
  • Super-Speed: The Brute is the fastest monster out of the three of them, being able to match the player's speed.
  • Super-Strength: Should come to no surprise, but the Brute possesses superhuman strength, being capable of easily tearing through locked doors.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Occasionally he can be heard shouting randomly at times due to walking into steam. It's a good thing it's not fatal to him.

     The Hunter

A translucent, blue monster that stalks the player, and tends to ambush them from either vents or egg sacks
  • Absurdly Sharp Claws: The Hunter has incredibly sharp claws, capable of easily tearing through doors and ripping humans apart.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: The Fiend's method of hunting essentially amounts to this as, while popping out of the vent and an Egg sack might catch the player off guard at first, it'll become easier to predict his arrival the more you get himnote .
  • Eaten Alive: It's the only monster that's able to eat the player alive, should it catch them.
  • Invisible Monsters: Downplayed as it's technically not able to turn invisible but due to it being translucent, it's hard to see it in dark areas.

     The Fiend
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_1431.png
A skeletal entity with psychic powers that constantly floats around, searching for the player.
  • Bond Villain Stupidity: The Fiend will toy around with the player instead of outright killing them.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: The Fiend will painfully twist your body and crush your organs if it ends up catching you.
  • Mind over Matter: The Fiend has access to telekinetic abilities and powers; he can lift/move objects and people with his mind, constantly float around, assault the player with deadly mental attacks, and block off escape routes.
  • Mind Rape: What makes this one very dangerous. When you're in his line sight, he'll use his powers to attack the your mind (signified by the purple tendrils forming on your screen). When the tendrils completely fill the screen, you'll be briefly stunned and left vulnerable. If you get hit by this 5 times, you die.
  • Power Floats: The Fiend doesn't walk at all, instead just constantly floating around.
  • Sadist: The Fiend is seemingly very sadistic, seeing as it will torture you for a bit before killing you.
  • Story-Breaker Power: If the Fiend wasn't toying around with the player, it would instantly kill them since they otherwise have no way to defend against his telekinesis.
  • Villain Ball: The Fiend's stats claim that he's supposed to be the smartest monster among the 3, so his tendency for Bond Villain Stupidity is basically this.
