Head to Retooled: A Discussion of The Retool to talk about this thread and share related creations.

The rules:

Poster one gives an existing work or franchise a new cast and/or a new medium. This can include a brief description of the new work, including what audience it is intended for or how it is marketed. It should NOT include a description of objective factors - like if it has good animation or the actors perform well - because that's for the critic to decide.

Poster two, pretending to be the critic who has viewed this new imaginary work, posts a review of it.

To start, Mega Man gets a CGI movie directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elusium, Chappie) with Sharlto Copley as Doctor Wiley

Average. Sharlto Copley is good at playing Dr. Wily, but he seems too young for me. On the other hand, Mega Man looks much older than he should be. And who had this smart idea to retcon several Robot Masters into Mistresses and have Flash Man played by Bruce Willis?

Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner as a survival horror videogame.

Emerging indie game studio I Love Starbucks has received the rights from Warner Brothers to reimagine its beloved Roadrunner cartoons as a survival-horror. Giving license to make a game like this has understandably given rise to riots in several parts of the United States. This game does away with conventional interpretations of the show's characters. The invincible, preppy road runner is now extremely vulnerable, while the coyote acts more like a devious, supernatural force than the desperate, bumbling rascal fans are used to. Set in the mists of Big Sur, much is left to the imagination as the player struggles to avoid the coyote's traps and find escape. The fact that the eponymous Roadrunner spends almost the entire game with an injured leg baffles me, as it seems like a really uncreative way of making the coyote more dangerous. In conclusion, this game really does nothing excellent for Warner Bros. or I Love Starbucks and I really don't see who would want to play a game like this. There are plenty of prey games out there and there are plenty of Roadrunner cartoons. There is no need for you to play this game.

Christopher Nolan (director of The Dark Knight and Interstellar) teams up with Sega to make a Sonic video game set in an alternate 1990s, taking place before the events of the first Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis. The game features the voices of Tom Hardy and Will Poulter.

Oh boy...Where do I start with this one? I enjoy Mr. Nolan as a director, I really do! But his attempt at reviving the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise just made things much worse! The game takes the Shadow The Hedgehog route and makes things way more dark and serious. What the creators seem to forget is that at the end of the day, it's a game about a blue hedgehog in sneakers! What really ticked me off was two things: Tails's new role in the story. They made him Sonic's son, now keep in mind, they didn't make Tails a hedgehog. He's still a fox (Maybe he's adopted, I don't know). Robotnik kidnaps him to make him into a leader of his robot army, making Sonic set out to find him. Secondly, Robotnik's origin story. I'm gonna spoil it. His parents are devoured by wild animals so he vows revenge against NATURE! Absolutely abysmal.

A live action Attack on Titan movie directed by Michael Bay starring Shia Lebeouf and Megan Fox.

Disgusting. Even in a series without America, Bay made the movie overly patriotic and explosion-filled! Also, at one point Mikasa is referred to as Mikaela.

Teremok (a Russian fairy tale) as a survival horror game.

This was an interesting idea. I won't lie, Making a horror game about something like this would be a tad risky. It is interesting to see a horror game based on a Russian fairy tale. I suppose it would be kinda like a horror game about Rumpelstiltskin, so maybe not. The odd thing is, this game is essentially just the story with jumpscares sprinkled in. See: Not good. You'll just be playing the game then BOO! And then you keep playing. A bland experience that shouldn't really be a horror game.

A CGI movie based on the Mario & Luigi series with Fawful voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz of Invader Zim fame, Popple voiced by Jim Carrey, and Bowser voiced by Bill Murray.

To be fair, it was awesome. The computer graphics were smooth and breathtaking, and Cackletta has the same voice actor as Yzma! To be fair, the only thing that was bad was Bowser. Bill Murray's voice didn't exactly fit with the intimidating dragon-turtle.

A lengthy, Scavenged Punk, The Secret of NIMH-style Peace On Earth animated movie.

Brazen and heavy on political themes, Peace on Earth is more than the sum of its parts. It looks good enough to eat, but it's not just empty calories; stirred in is a slow build to a mature, halting resolution. It would be nonsense to say that Peace on Earth won't be as much a cause for commentary as it is a family hit this holiday season.

Can I just say fantastic? Many people were hyped for an adaptation of this famous book describing a Bread and Circuses dystopia, and I decided to try it out. Although I can't say anything about the voice acting, as I live in Russia, but I can say that the characters were great. Fitting for a breathtaking experience of dystopic despair and terror.

Ech. Too many skeletons.

A high-budget flash-animated Fan Film based on everyone's favorite underrated game that shoehorns a certain girl gamer and features voice talents such as Brian Drummond, Mashed Dorito, and Kazumi Evans as the Terrible Trio, Andrew Francis as Prince Bunston, Samuel Vincent as Moe the clam, Rebecca Soichet as the mermaid, Tabitha St. Germain as Ruby, a charming zebra turkeyfish, Roger Craig Smith and Ashleigh Ball as Private and Admiral (two brother-and-sister guards), respectively, and Kelly Sheridan and Richard Ian Cox as Piplion and Puplion.

Now, I'm the last person who should do this review. I never played EVO or Undertale, so this is totally new for me. I did like this movie though, and here's why. The soundtrack, first of all, is fantastic. The characters were well rounded, except for that Bolbox guy, didn't care for him. And the voice-acting was pretty nice! I recommend it.

Oh, and the FNAF book was okay I guess.

Interesting. I've never read Ruby Quest, so this was new for me. However, Tim Burton and Weaver really captured the Lovecraftian atmosphere of the original and many people were genuinely scared by it, although it was a bit toned down.

Another day, another EVO adaptation. Still haven't played the game, so I'm going to compare it to the movie instead. Now, if you read my review of the movie, you'll know I found some of the characters lacking. Apparently, the guys who made this read it, so all the characters are extremely fleshed out. Unfortunately, this becomes a problem. They spend way to much time building on the characters rather than focus on the narrative. And they still didn't make the characters to likable. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this version.

As someone whose expectations for any superhero-origin-cum-crime miniseries have been crippled by the ultra-bland Gotham, Darkwing offers something of a new perspective. Instead of running the original Disney series through the well-worn modernizing machine for children's shows, the creators adopted the series like it was their baby, raising it to be a clever spy series in the vein of Archer. There is a seemingly effortless integration of tongue-in-cheek gags despite the emphasis on character development. Before viewing this series, the very term "character development" brought to me a sense of tedium. This prequel does not neglect its roots, however, and does away with anything that seems to have become obligatory in the process of developing characters. Given that fans of the original series are in their mid-thirties by now, putting such effort into writing and producing such a disproportionately believable and mature Disney cartoon is a risky move. On the other hand, the market for cartoons featuring an adult sense of humor has proven to be all but abandoned. All I'm frustrated about is the show's to-be short lifespan; Disney could allow such a series to run only for so long.

A novel is published by author J. R. R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings), based on Videodrome.
