Take the 20-ish guy than...Vic Sotto is pretty...old for Professor Utonium. He'd ruin it. >.>

So it's younger Utonium, then. It makes for a good female fanservice scene, I suppose.

From what I saw in both versions, the PPG show is generally a Lighter and Softer version of a superhero show, what with the girls and the villains showing their lighter, funnier side more often than most.

On the other hand, I kind of appreciate how dark Captain Barbell and the TV adaptation of Lastikman were. Although both shows in general were kind of cliched, at least each of the villains have an interesting backstory (such as Mothra being the other woman, or Alingasaw being a broken father, or Tetano being a mere victim of the Big Bad's schemes). Because you know, back stories are my favorite parts of any story.

So maybe one way to write a Philippine adaptation of the PPG is the Cerebus Syndrome, where things get the most serious towards the end. That way, it is easier to write around Philippine mythology and give the villains (especially HIM) their much needed Badass Upgrade.

Say, what do you think of the Filipino version of Princess Morebucks? Because I think of her as someone like the Servant Caster.

I think of her as a super rich daughter of a politician who used her dad's money to buy Chemical X to be a superhero/villain.

I should say oligarch, because it is said that the Philippines is secretly ruled by them.

While being born to a famous family has its perks, it also becomes a problem when people think you're not as cool as your surname suggests. And since I plan to write her as Blossom's rival in pretty much everything, this can go both ways: Break the Cutie for Blossom, and Break the Haughty for Princess.

It is actually interesting to write an arc where Princess absolutely breaks Blossom without even using superpowers (read: takes her position in the school and her love) to the point that she plans to abandon her mission as Defender of the Metropolis.

Pretty interesting Wham Episode, isn't it?

After watching this clip about DotA, it occured to me to write an episode where Buttercup takes too long to respond to the PPG Hotline because she's too busy playing the game, which ended up in Blossom and Bubbles short-handed while fighting a particularly powerful monster.

Any ideas where could this go from here?

[up] In the news, the Bangsamoro agreement between the Philippine government and the MILF is said to be a great step to end the 40-year war in Mindanao. But the truth is, as long as there are foreign and local interests in Mindanao, the war won't stop. That's because many Muslims were ejected from their own lands just because some guys from up there showed up with scraps of paper.

As for this coven, I'm currently working on a Fan Fic which is basically the Filipino version of the Powerpuff Girls (the one made by a certain Filipino comic artist was actually a crossover doujin).

Say, what do you think would improve the quality of Philippine primetime?

Please don't say it's useless, because I'm planning a Xanatos Gambit a la Ken Akamatsu. Guy actually tricked his producers into releasing an action show disguised as a Moe Moe anime. And I want me or somebody actually pull off a similar gambit here in the Philippines.

But I guess Encantandia, Pedro Penduko, Super Inggo, Captain Barbell (accusations of being a Smallville rip-off aside), and Vhong Navarro's Lastikman really sold, so what gives?

They're all better than the standard soap opera drivel, really.

But Executive Meddling is par for the course in Philippine TV - and that's because shows are designed as vehicles for young stars.

Oh man, guess my idea was too late, huh?

Oh wait. Just because Philippine Primetime is a vehicle for young stars doesn't mean they must appear only in soaps. But then, I guess soaps are more realistic than the stuff I mentioned above (because the people are so suffering atm that a simple escape from reality won't cut it).

So if Executive Meddling is really that par of the course, then I guess we just can't win, huh?

Oh wait again. Since those stuff I mentioned are still considered drama, maybe I'll just have to write some soap opera staples into my superhero revival idea and be done with it? That way, by the time both the drama and the action is at its peak, there's no stopping it.

[up] Somebody told me that a writer should not write his story out of tropes. Instead, try writing as you come along, and show us something we can judge.

Like this for my PPG Fan Fic:

Element X. The newest periodic element known to man. A Filipino scientist named Antonio Dimaculangan, Jr. discovered it. But this element is different, for it strengthens anything it comes in contact with. For this feat, he became one of the youngest ever to win a Nobel Prize at age 27, and Element X was later named Utonium after his internet alias.

He returned to his hometown laboratory to conduct experiments on the element Utonium for its potential uses. However, a laboratory accident caused it to release energy so strong it radiated across the whole country, the bulk of it in Metro Manila, as confirmed by the news about incidents of what seemed to be a series of mysterious radiation attacks.

As a result, Tonyo was left with very little Element X and his assistant and trusted friend, Joash Magpalo, was transformed into a hideous monkey-like creature and gained enhanced intelligence at the cost of his sanity. In a fit of rage, Jojo trashed the laboratory and stole of its equipment without Tonyo's knowledge and ran away. This led Tonyo to settle in the Metro and accept a relatively lower-paying job as a science teacher in a private school to find Jojo and the Utonium radiation attacks and to further his experiment on Element X.

Meanwhile, three high school girls from the Metro have their lives changed forever when they became affected with the radiation from Element X: Mary Anne Putingbato, a born leader and candidate for Student Council President in her school; Maria Clara "Claire" dela Ibarra, a young scion of an ancient Filipino family gifted with incredible beauty and singing voice; and Rudylyn "Rudy" Sanchez, a real tomboy and the only girl in a family of boys. Together, they form Metro Manila's best chance in its fight against crime — The Powerpuff Girls.

Although, I can't find a good Hand Wave for Professor Utonium's immunity to Element X's effects. Unless it actually gives him Charles Atlas Superpowers...

Tropes are patterns that emerge from a story, not the other way around.

You'll probably also want to brush up on your English. You're missing periods*

, a handful of your I's are uncapitalized, etc.

Regarding my Powerpuff Girls Fan Fic (which I still can't finish atm because I haven't done enough research yet and I'm really bored as hell), how would anyone try to iron out the flaws in the "poor hero, rich villain" trope (can't be done away with since the Princess Morbucks arcs kinda require it)?

  • Because you know, it felt so bad that Philippine primetime nowadays live on the "poor vs. rich" trope, so much that pretty much the only good guy from the rich is the Love Interest of the poor hero/ine. I can't really describe Blossom as poor neither rich, she's more like the middle class in that she's still able to enjoy a realtively comfortable life, go to a private school and become a student leader among the likes of Bubbles and even Princess despite being raised by a single mother.
  • Any answer to the above question can also help me think of a good contrast between Bubbles and Princess, two rich girls showing the light and dark sides of being rich.
  • That said, which would suit better as Blossom's father: one of the villains or an older Professor Utonium? But before you say it, yeah, this is seriously fucked. Screw Philippine TV for overusing the Luke, I Am Your Father trope.
  • On another note, part of Buttercup being able to go to a private school was her being a regular athletic scholar, plus the fact that some of her older brothers
  • I came up with an interesting idea about how the girls can trace their ancestry to the legendary warriors handpicked by the diwatas to defeat Kasamaan or Him before the Spaniards came to the country. Sure, they have defeated Kasamaan by sealing him away and all, but their team-up was so seriously wrecked by a man known in modern myth as "Machete" (as in Gardo "Machete" Verzosa, not that one) that they were placed under a curse for apparently giving in to their negative thoughts which could break the seal on Him if they were that careless.
  • "Machete" gets to wander the earth for all eternity, while the three warriors will die if they give birth to a girl, with the child gaining a fraction of their powers, making each successive generation significantly weaker than the previous one. This is one reason the PPG weren't aware of their hidden powers until after their first defeat by Him, even with the influence of Element X.
  • Blossom as an Archer, Bubbles as a Caster, and Buttercup as a Berserker. What do you think of it?

Oh well, i feel like just posting a second time in test form:

1. What film, show etc will any of you hype about?

2. Can a hero who is trying to hide his various negative traits be an interesting protagonist?

3. Please state at least three random objects so that I can make a Tokusatsu plot out of it,since I am pretty sure this is a common exercise to test creativity or something

Pls reply

  • 1. Definitely the Powerpuff Girls. The aim of my PPG Fan Fic is to introduce them to the new generation in a modern Philippine setting. Even if one would say, "Why would you that, there is the Internet to provide them with PPG episodes from America?", what about those who don't have internet connection at home (read: the masses)?
  • 2. Depends on the character's flaw. You see, creating M Cs is a rather tricky business. If your MC is too perfect, people would call Mary Sue. If your MC is too weak, he becomes The Scrappy. But it doesn't mean your MC needs to be an Anti-Hero either, because kids need role models, and it isn't exactly the perfect character to teach them good manners with.
    • So I was thinking that you're going to make an Anti-Hero. If so, proceed with caution. Personally, the reason I hate Anti-Heroes because they have rather questionable moralities.
  • 3. How about a Filipino version of Kamen Rider? I would love to see that.
