"The scary thing is, when you've been stuck in a video game for long enough, it's Earth that starts looking like a dream. But I know it's not. I have to get back home...no matter how impossible it may seem."
Summary

New Reality by noa748 is a Tales of Symphonia fanfic about the exploits of Self-Insert Brittany Furness, who finds herself trapped in Aselia and targeted by the main antagonist for the ever-sinister Angelus Project.

New Reality contains examples of:

  • Accidental Pervert: Due to her exhaustion, Brit doesn't realize she practically collapsed on top of Sheena, mistaking her bed of her own. Needless to say, someone's sleeping outside for a night.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Brit has a penchant of calling Lloyd as Lloydie and Zelos as Zelly.
  • Alone in a Crowd: This happened when Sheena cried after running away in the middle of discussion about Volt. Not a single civilian bothers to comfort her except Brittany, who chased after her.
  • Alone with the Psycho: With Kvar, no less. It happens when the group is infiltrating the Asgard Human Ranch and Brit got separated from the others.
  • Amnesiacs are Innocent: The atmosphere around Brit is screaming this before she has her memories back.
  • Amusing Injuries: Almost every time Brit manages to annoy Kratos, really.
  • Animals Hate Him: More like Team Pets hate her or something since Lloyd Junior likes Brit just fine, but Noishe and Corrine aren't particularly fond of her.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Both Kratos and Zelos don't believe in Wonder Chef's existence, strangely enough.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Before all this mess happened to her, Brit used to play Tales of Symphonia, even beaten it four times already.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Hell Pyre. The user shoots a ball of fire while doing a midair spin, but leaves the user defenseless in the air. Brittany learns the hard way when Kratos proves how exactly detrimental it is in the battle against him on Tower of Salvation.
  • A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing: How Brittany views both Mithos and herself, word for word.
  • Bad Liar: Brit, in spades. At the very least, she can lie to save her life...
Brittany: Fan-freakin'-tastic. So you know that I know...do you how I know? Do you know that I know that you know-
Kratos: Enough. If you're trying to conceal your nervousness, you're doing a terrible job of it.
Brittany: ...Sorry. But really...what tipped you off?
Kratos: Hmph. Were I to list everything, this would take all night.
  • Batman Gambit: Yuan deliberately dropped his locket (which contained a tracking device) in the hope he may arouse her curiosity and captured her later. It worked.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Seeing Lloyd and Kratos with their Exspheres makes Brit eager to have one. Cue her being taken by Desians and revealed as a part of Angelus Project.
  • Because Destiny Says So: Subverted. Brit's mindset to handle most situations because she knows the plot, but too scared to screw it up. In the end, she decides it doesn't worth it if people's gonna die because of her own ignorance.
  • BFS: Brit's zweihänder, Loki. Eventually, she uses another one which she named Kerberos. Word of God says both are smaller than usual zweihänders though.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Freyr is quite protective of Kohl, his younger brother.
  • Big "NO!": Both Brittany and Lloyd shout at the same time when Kvar tries to remove Brittany's Key Crest off of her chest.
  • Birds of a Feather: Brittany and Zelos. Both dress alike, act rather similarly, and have the same brand of humor. They also hit it off almost instantly.
  • Blue Boy, Pink Girl: Inverted. Brit wears mainly blue while Lloyd is with his red coat, and Zelos himself has red hair and pink coat.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase:
    • Before Brit attacks Kvar, she says one of Kratos' quotes to Lloyd.
    Brittany: Don't die, Lloyd.
    • Once again, Brittany deliberately imitates Kratos, but just to annoy the hell out of him this time. She includes his mannerism and some of his catchphrases in her act. "Blame your fate!" and "Don't overdo it." appear to be among them. Of course the sheer ridiculousness ends with a predictable result.
  • Boyish Short Hair: Brit's hairstyle after she cuts it. It suits her rather tomboyish nature.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: In-Universe example. Yggdrasill kidnapped Brittany by using Eternal Sword to invade Earth
  • Brick Joke: In chapter 23, Lloyd demands for Lloyd Junior to be renamed as Fluffy or something, only to be ignored. Cue the next chapter with Brittany-as-Kratos uses Fluffy as one of her nicknames.
  • Bullying a Dragon: What Brit often does to Kratos. The others usually just sit back and watch what's going to happen next.
  • By the Hair: The Desians is often dragging Brit around by pulling her hair. This is also the reason why Brit decides just to cut her hair off.
  • Calling Your Bathroom Breaks: The excuse used by Brit to delay the assumed Raine's inevitable punishment for her failed test. Kratos can only facepalming in the background.
  • Can't Catch Up: As someone with no combat experience, Brittany perfectly awares that no matter how much she trains she'll never surpass her companions' abilities. Rather than keeps comparing herself with others, Kratos tells her to boost her self-confidence by honing her skills.
  • Can't Hold Her Liquor: Deconstructed. A simple drinking party finally makes Brit's tongue loose. She indirectly accused Zelos as the cause of her recent kidnapping. Zelos doesn't take it well. At all.
  • Captain Obvious: Kratos does this more than once, a fact Brittany lampshades every time.
  • Cassandra Truth: Thanks to Mithos' interference, some people in the group, especially Raine doesn't believe Brit with her Earth origin. It's only because of Yuan's help they finally accept it as a truth.
  • Character Development: Naturally there's plenty of this to go around in a Tales game, but most self inserts fail to do this. A glowing exception here as Brit evolves from normal woman to helpless amnesiac to homesick alien and onward!
  • Cheshire Cat Grin: Implied to be Brit's expression whenever she thinks of something...amusing, considering others' reaction of it.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: Brit is rather dirty minded and fond of lewd jokes, but is also always willing to do her best to help others.
  • Contrived Clumsiness: Just before Lloyd said anything about Yuan in a matter of Renegade while Mithos is still in the same room, Brittany 'accidentally' spilled her coffee. Zelos saw right through her act.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Kvar breaking Brit's ribs. Hell, Brit's whole human ranch experience qualifies.
  • Comic-Book Adaptation: A manga based on the beginning of the story was produced by SUICIDE-SHOUJO on DeviantArt. You can read it here.
  • Costume Copycat: Brit doesn't really mean to copy Zelos' outfit, it's all pure coincidence. But seeing Sheena's reaction, she decided to go for the hell of it.
  • Cowardly Lion: Repeatedly almost chickened out, but Brit never truly run away.
  • Crying Wolf: Lloyd doesn't want to take any chances to trust Brit again after she's done fooling him once for saying they arrives at Lake Umacy when it really is there behind him this time. He finally gets the idea by walking backwards and falls into said lake.
  • Cue the Sun: The sunrise Brit watches outside of House of Salvation before she accidentally meets Yuan again counts.
  • Cut Himself Shaving: After Brit is beaten by Kratos, Brit's excuse when being asked why there are bruises on her is a cliched "I fell".
  • Damsel out of Distress: Thanks to her foreknowledge and Desian Orb, she can orchestrated her escapement from Asgard Human Ranch with Pietro.
  • Dark Fic: Some parts of the story certainly qualify-most notably the time Brit spent in the human ranch.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Brit loves to make a point, whether useful or not, by acting like this. Not everyone appreciates this side of her.
  • Deconstruction:
    • The characters ARE people as well. They aren't fictional characters anymore, which makes them unpredictable at times.
    • Just because Brit knows the future plots and the ending, doesn't ultimately ensure her safety.
  • Defiant Stone Throw: Brit does this to Desian who captures Colette.
  • Determined Defeatist: Brit can't see herself past the Tower of Salvation event but thinks nothing worse can happens, except death. It eventually backfires when she realizes she actually doesn't want to die, so much, that she practically pukes her guts out and make the group worries of her on the last night before said event.
  • Did I Just Say That Out Loud?: In her flashback during one of the infiltration, Brit spontaneously calls Kratos as "Kratters", which prompts him to use Hurricane Thrust on her.
  • Digging Yourself Deeper: When explaining to Regal that he's not THAT old.
Brittany: Not old old, just older, you know, not 'gramps' old but 'uncle' old!
  • Disgusting Public Toilet: The outhouses in Sylvarant. Didn't exactly help when Brittany is having a mental breakdown on the night before Tower of Salvation
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The Wonder Chef only tries to be civil and give some tomatoes to Kratos. Unfortunately, he has a broken nose as a reward. Twice.
  • Doorstopper: This fic nearly breaches 500,000 words by chapter 63, making it one of the longest fics in Tales of Symphonia section with a great quality.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: An inversion. Kratos definitely doesn't seem to have an aversion for this in regard to Brittany. It's Played for Laughs.
  • Double Take: Brit's reaction of meeting Sheena with her own two eyes.
  • Dreaming the Truth: Brittany sometimes dreams of her family and friends back at home. One of them turns out to be a nightmare that have James and Pyramid Head inside of it because of her fear and anxiety.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Though all of noa748's New Reality-related works are non-canon (so says Word of God), they all involve Brit leaving Aselia only to end up flung into some other world.
  • Eldritch Location: The route Lloyd, Genis, and Brittany takes in Tower of Mana is very, very bizarre. The time works differently, the wall blocks the previous path, the stairs go down instead of up even though the basement doesn't exist anymore, the stange noises that keeps following them, etc. No wonder they are reluctant to go back there.
  • Embarrassing Nickname:
    • Zelos calls Brit "Spitfire".
    • Brittany hopes Lloyd would never knows that her friends back at home used to call her "Brit's Knee".
  • Embarrassing Tattoo: Averted. Brit did not find the tattoo of a firebird on her lower back embarrassing until Zelos paid attention to it due to the worry the people in Tethe'alla might see it as a tramp stamp. Considering the next time Zelos brought it up, her worries were legitimate.
  • Erotic Literature: Brit's secret weapon to further traumatize poor Lloyd. In her own defense, it's only for future reference and definitely not for screwing with Lloyd's mind. Not at all.
  • Escape Artist: Freyr dubbed Brit as this word-for-word because she managed to escape from Welgaia by her own and later, from Renegade Base. Then again, he didn't know she get help from Kratos and Zelos on both occasions, respectively.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: Brit overhears Yuan's part of conversation with Botta, whom she only knows by his distinct accent. She gets busted, but learns quite enough to know the gist of it.
  • Eye Scream: Inflicted by Corrine to Rodyle in the battle against him.
  • Face Plant: At the end of battle against Gnome, this happened to Brittany because the summon spirit stopped the battle so sudden.
  • Faking Amnesia: Even when she finally regained her memories back, Brit has to keep faking it for awhile because she's scared no one would believe her.
  • First Kiss: Zelos tricked and then stole Brit's in Flanoir. Surprisingly, the fanbase took the potential OC/canon character ship in stride.
  • First-Person Smartass: Ever since she got her memories back and onward.
  • Fix Fic: In a way. It only started to show in later chapters, with how Corrine and Botta survived, for examples.
  • For Want Of A Nail: What if there's one additional member in the Chosen's group, all because Yggdrasill dumps her into Sylvarant from a place called Earth as a part of a super secret Angelus Project plan? This fanfic is the result of it.
  • Friendship Moment: Frequently happens when Brit is alone with one of the party member. The noteworthy examples are Lloyd, Sheena, and Zelos.
  • Gay Moment: Happens thanks to Pronyma's appearance and Brit trying to control her nervousness by thinking random things.
The light faded, leaving behind a daunting figure of Pronyma. And holy crap, she was actually kind of hot. In a scary way. Not that I was into chicks or anything, but I recognized a good looking woman when I saw one. Now if she could get rid of that weird Desian getup in favor of something normal, she might have a chance at not frightening men off. Not that that had anything to do with what was happening now. But the random thoughts helped distract me from building tension.
  • Genius Ditz: She might be a straight A student back at home, but Brit has no real talent in battlefield.
  • Genre Savvy: Brit. Justified, since she played the game.
  • Girl on Girl Is Hot: The reason why Zelos loves seeing Brittany and Sheena get all chummy.
  • Giver of Lame Names: Lloyd suggests to Brit that the skill for both of them to use Tiger Blade at the same time is "Tiger Festival". Even Regal is not particularly amazed by the name.
  • Go Through Me: Brit does this to protect Sheena from Volt, preventing Corrine's death. Needless to say Brit was not a participant in the following boss fight.
  • Gratuitous French: Toute Seule, which means "All Alone" is the title of chapter 14. It also makes sense because Brit really is alone...with Kvar.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: Chapter 57 is fittingly named 'Tomodachi' (it means 'Friend', by the way) for Tales of Graces reference.
  • Gratuitous Latin: The enscription on Kerberos is supposedly Latin. Brit notes Latin is an equivalent of Angelic in Aselia.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: A platonic kind. Genis doesn't like a newcomer like Brit take his position as Lloyd's best friend. It's only with some reassurances he realized that his insecurities and worries are baseless to begin with.
  • Hammerspace: Wonder Chef, who can practically pull anything out of any place.
  • Harmless Electrocution: Pretty much averted. The lightning spell casts by Kvar leaves Brittany paralyzed on the ground. The same thing is also done by Yuan to her.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Brittany, the hero of her story, wields a sword.
  • Heroic Bystander: Brit saves Colette from being killed by throwing a stone to the Desian who holds her.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation: Think herself as a burden and useless, though she eventually steers away from it.
  • Hidden Depths: Lloyd, who's not as oblivious as in canon. It's only makes Brit more guarded of her secrets.
  • Holding Hands: The bridge at the entrance of Thoda Geyser is traumatic as hell for Brit, who's afraid of heights, which prompts Lloyd to guide her by holding her hand. It quickly escalates to her hugging his arm after she slips a bit.
  • Human Shield: If you are a Magic Swordsman, there's a plenty good chance Brittany jokingly (or not) wants you to be this for her.
  • I Call It "Vera": Brit named her first sword "Loki", and her second sword "Kerberos".
  • I Do Not Own: While there are many variations, every single chapter starts with this.
  • Ill-Timed Sneeze: Kvar was about to pass without noticing Brit while she was in her hiding space... and then she sneezed and gave away her location.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: In Brittany's dream, this happens to her. Bonus point for being a direct Shout-Out to Silent Hill 2.
  • Important Haircut: Poor Brit hacked off her own hair when she decided not to have the Desians treat her more as a victim than she already was by grabbing her hair and pulling her around by it.
  • Instant Expert: Averted. Brit does improve with the sword, but it takes her a good deal of time.
  • Internal Reveal: Unavoidable, since Brit is a self-insert character who knows the story of the world she has been trapped in.
  • Involuntary Group Split: Brit accidentally get separated from the group in Asgard Human Ranch.
  • It's All About Me: Brit definitely has some shades of this. Though helpful by nature, she has a tendency to put herself first before other people. Thankfully, she mostly grow out of this.
  • It's a Long Story: Subverted. Brit states that the reason she destroys the warp pad in Asgard Human Ranch is too lengthy to explain. Lloyd cuts her off and tells everyone in one sentence.
  • It's Probably Nothing: Lloyd suspects Brit already regained her memories back in Asgard Human Ranch but replies with this trope when being asked by Brit. Brit even lampshades it.
  • It Was a Gift: Kerberos, which Kratos gives to Brit as a replacement for Loki.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Brittany. Generally nice and easy to relate with but can be selfish and obnoxious to others at times.
  • Keeping Secrets Sucks: Brit feels guilty, as she quickly finds out.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: While you can say Brittany stealing Desian's weapon as a matter of necessity, you can't really deny that her stealing foods and drinks at enemies' fort out of spite so casually, and taking small percentages of Zelos' money every time she went out shopping for the group is rather amusing. Freyr understandably got wary when he realized her little habit. Zelos lampshades this the best:
Zelos: You know, you have a nasty habit of stealing things. First my money, then my clothes what's next...my heart?
  • Knight in Sour Armor: Brit slowly becomes this. Truly wants to help other people but balanced it with her own cynicism.
  • Lame Comeback:
    • Brit eventually realized that Lloyd certainly doesn't have enough creativity in terms of bantering, because his default counter to Brit is frequently 'Dork'.
    • The same thing applies to Brit as well. She's not exactly being repetitive, but her response can be rather unremarkable.
  • Lampshaded Double Entendre: Well, what can you say about 'Fun With Kratos'? The authoress is quick to point it out.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Brittany. Constantly, in fact.
Brittany: How do you get your hair like that, Lloyd?
Lloyd: (looks baffled) I dunno. It just sorta sticks up, so I leave it like this.
Genis: That was a weird question...
Brittany: Not really. Don't you ever wonder how Kratos does his hair?
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Brit suffered this at the beginning of the story, with the only thing she remembered being her name. She eventually got all her memories back.
  • Left Stuck After Attack: When trying to strike Rodyle by using Kerberos, it got stuck in his abdomen, leaving Brittany with no weapon for awhile.
  • Lethal Chef: Brittany. As Sheena once said, second only to Raine. It's only because of lack of experience and unfortunate circumstances, more than anything.
  • Like Brother and Sister: Brittany considers Lloyd as her brother, though fans often interpret their relationship in a romantic sense.
  • Literal Cliffhanger: Happens to Raine in the battle against Iubaris.
  • Love Epiphany: At long last, Brit finally realized she's in love with a resident lovable pervert a.k.a. Zelos Wilder in chapter 64 after much introspection.
  • Luminescent Blush: Brit's reaction if she gets flustered. It gets worse when she finally meets Zelos.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: According to Freyr, he and his brother have five half-sisters.
  • Medium Awareness: Double subverted. Brit enters the plot with no knowledge of the world because of her amnesia, but later she regains her memories, which makes her aware she's in Tales of Symphonia.
  • Mentor: Kratos became this not only to Lloyd, but also to Brittany. Much later, Regal takes the spot for both of them. Lucian, a traveler Brittany met before also taught her how to handle zweihander properly.
  • Meta Guy: In addition of being a smartass, Brit has a habit to comment many hints that should be pretty obvious if you look closely, but no one realized them.
  • "Metaphor" Is My Middle Name: Brittany-as-Kratos introduces herself like this to Lloyd, and many other names after that.
Brittany-as-Kratos: That is my middle name. Kratos Dork Aurion. I also answer to Kratty, Kratters, Fluffy, and Jerkface.
  • Mistaken Identity: Subverted. Brit thinks Kvar mistaken her for some other girl as a host body recommended by Yggdrasill himself. She's wrong.
  • Most Fanfic Writers Are Girls: Yes indeed, noa748 is a woman. One would assume as much since almost all of her fics are self inserts and they all have a FEMALE main character named Brit.
  • Mundane Object Amazement: Lloyd regards Pocky as the best thing since sliced bread, which is rather justified, with Pocky being something unknown from Earth (not that he knows that).
  • Must Have Caffeine: Brittany's favorite beverage is coffee.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Brit has to kill Desians in Luin. While quite distraught, this trope hits her full force when Lloyd finally put a new Key Crest on her, returning her emotional state back to normal.
  • My Greatest Failure: Not being able to prevent Elena's death can be considered this to Brittany.
  • Nice Guy: Lucian, a polite and friendly man who has a strong sense of justice. He even teaches Brit how to use her newly obtained zweihander correctly.
  • No Periods, Period: This in particular needs to be mentioned, as Word of God claims that OC Brit had taken a birth control shot prior to her arrival to Sylvarant, thus preventing her from having her periods.
  • Not a Game: This is Kratos' response when Lloyd wants to teach Brit how to wield a sword. In the end, Kratos has to be the one who teaches her.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: Discussed in chapter 20.
Brittany: Lloyd, would you be afraid if you knew it was one of those grasshopper things following us?
    Lloyd: Huh? No, but-
Brittany: Exactly. We're only afraid of it because we don't know what it is. Turning your back on the unknown is a lot more dangerous than facing it.
  • Nothing Personal: Kratos claims he's just doing his job to protect Colette by not trusting Brittany, much to her dismay.
  • Oh, Crap!: Brit expresses this or its many equivalents whenever things start to get messy, which is a lot.
  • Older Than They Look: Freyr, one of the Renegade soldier who is almost 50 but looks like in his twenties. Justified, since he's a half-elf.
  • The Omniscient: Wonder Chef claims to know everything. Interestingly, he knows of Brit's personal information.
  • One Name Only: Elena, Lucian, Freyr and Kohl. In fact, Brittany is the only one who has a last name.
  • One-Note Cook: Despite being an awful cook, Brit claims to know how to make omelettes in front of Genis (which doesn't say much, considering Wonder Chef is the one who cooks at the time) so he can teach her more.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. There's another Brittany in Brittany-we-all-know's dream. The authoress says she has many friends with that name in real life.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot:
    • A whole bunch of funny moments between Brit and Kratos is often caused by this.
    • The interactions between Brittany and Yuan could be included as well. Although, it's usually not always funny, considering Yuan is relatively more impatient than Kratos.
  • Original Character: Not overabundant, but this fic still has a few of them.
  • Out-Gambitted: Brit actually ponders to threaten Yuan with his locket, unknowingly helping him because there's a tracking device hidden inside it.
  • Piggyback Cute: After a very exhausting mission, Kratos does this to Brit who has already passed out.
  • Plot Bunny: This fic was one of many of noa748's plot bunnies, in fact. She must have at least ten in-progress fanfictions... not that that's a bad thing.
  • Power of Trust: Following the Tales Series' tradition, Brit has to learn to trust others with her secrets to gain their complete trusts back.
  • Product Placement: Brittany meets Wonder Chef for the first time by accidentally finding a box of Pocky.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Brittany delivered one of these to Zelos in retaliation for his own "The Reason You Suck" speech at her.
  • Rugged Scar: Discussed. Brittany thinks it will be super awesome if you have a scar left by a lion. Lloyd doesn't understand the whole explanation of it.
  • Running Gag:
  • Sacrificial Lamb: Elena. It almost like she exists to show how evil Desians really are.
  • Screw Destiny: What Brittany basically does after much Character Development. At the same time, she can be really paranoid if things don't work like how it supposed to be.
  • Seinfeldian Conversation: Let's just say it's a very short story about an ugly barnacle, and everybody took it very seriously, much to Brit's amusement.
  • Self-Insert: DERP. A rather well-known and well-received self insertion, actually-and for good reason.
  • Shaped Like Itself: Brit has her moment when she meets Yuan for the first time.
Neat, the projection made him all...projection-y. Wow, it's a good thing no one could hear my thought.
  • Shipper on Deck: Whether he's just teasing or not, Regal appears to be quite supportive of a possibility between Zelos and Brittany.
  • Ship Tease: Hell, the authoress even blatantly asked if the readers want to pair Brittany with Lloyd or Zelos at one point.
  • Shout-Out: Several. One notable example being when Brit tells the cast the story of Ocarina of Time, replacing names and places with Symphonia characters and places.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: Brittany, to the point Sheena tells her to "do something about the vulgar language".
  • Sleep Cute: Brit falls asleep on Zelos between chapter 63 and 64, much to her embarassment.
  • Smells Sexy: While being carried by Kratos, Brit comments he smells pretty. And she says that after she makes a promise to herself not to say anything stupid.
  • Sorry That I'm Dying: Elena's Last Words to Brittany and Pietro is "I'm sorry...".
  • Stay in the Kitchen: The shopkeeper in Meltokio is this. He insists Brittany should just go home and ask her spouse to buy the item for her since she doesn't know any better. Brit is not impressed.
  • Stealth Insult: Not so much him being inconspicuous, but Kratos has his moment briefly.
Kratos: (to Brittany) It seems you lie about as well as you fight.
  • Stepford Smiler: Brit tries to put on a cheerful front and crack jokes even when she has nothing but turmoil inside. It's implied that doing so keeps her sane.
  • Step into the Blinding Fight: Lloyd, Genis, and Brit have to deal with a monster in an environment like this in chapter 20.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Between Elena (one of the captives at Desian Ranch) and her mother.
  • Stupid Sexy Friend: Zelos, enough said. Brit can't stop blushing whenever he talks to her, at least at first. Curse him for being so damn good-looking!
  • Sword Drag: What Brit does when she's trying to lift her sword but fails since she's too weak due to Kvar's attack.
  • Tempting Fate:
    • A minor example. No guards have seen them in Asgard Human Ranch during their second raid, much to Brit's relief. Cue being spotted by two immediately afterward.
    • Brit believes she can solve the quiz given by Raine...until she has to deal with irrelevant questions the game never so much as touched upon before.
  • That's What She Said: Brit wants to say this pretty badly but is afraid of the consequences, which is why she can't wait to meet Zelos.
  • There's No Place Like Home: Brit's end goal is supposed to be this from the beginning, though she slowly comes to think of Aselia as her new home as well.
  • Title Drop: Brit laments how much her new reality sucks in chapter 20.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Brit, with her attitude towards Kratos. One must wonder how she is still alive.
  • Trapped in Another World: Much to Brit's horror. And she only realized it when she gets captured and meets Kvar.
  • Watching the Sunset: The aftermath of Remote Island Human Ranch, Zelos does this with Brittany.
  • The Watson: Brit is ironically this in earlier chapters, thanks to her amnesia.
  • We Named the Monkey "Jack": Lloyd Junior, the group found him in one of the House of Salvation. Amusingly enough, the kitty likes Kratos.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Kratos drops one of these as a result of Brit's self-regard, which drives one of her Character Development moments later.
Kratos: My patience with you is wearing incredibly thin. You are an adult, and yet you insist on acting as stubborn as a child. I've tolerated this for long enough. Ignoring your problems will not cause them to disappear. I understand that you are in pain, but your physical condition is much better than that of these people. Stop being selfish. You are not the only one here who has suffered.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Brittany really doesn't like heights. Of course, the plot revolves around this more often than not.
  • Wrecked Weapon: Loki is finally broken when Pronyma ambushed Brittany. Worry not, she gets a better weapon not long after that from someone quite unexpected.
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: The other path in Tower of Mana works this. Lloyd, Genis, and Brittany spends approximately two hours to get out, but Kratos says it's actually less than fifteen minutes.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Brit initially believes she has nothing compared to the others before Kratos knocks some sense into her.
  • You Are Too Late: The day Brit plans to escape with both Pietro and Elena is also the day Elena's Exsphere gets extracted from her body...
  • You Didn't Ask: Brit's response when Lloyd asked her why she didn't tell anyone of her cured amnesia. It's mostly a thinly veiled excuse for not being accused as a lunatic.
  • You Do Not Want To Know: ...Or else Sheena has to marry Brittany for it.
  • You Keep Telling Yourself That: Brittany to Kratos, after Wonder Chef is knocked unconscious by him.
Kratos: He was suspicious and his movements unpredictable. He gave me no choice.
Brittany: Yeah, you keep telling yourself that.
  • You Must Be Cold: Lloyd lends his coat to Brittany after she almost dies from hypothermia in chapter 63.
