Atlantis

    In General
An underwater kingdom that has recently started reconnecting with the surface world.
  • Apparently Human Merfolk: All Atlanteans who descend from those who got the perfected transformation spell look like this.
  • Atlantis: In this fic, Atlantis refers to a continent and country, not a city.
  • Fish People: All Atlanteans who don't descend from those who got the perfected transformation spell look like some version of this.
  • Power Tattoo: It is common practice for Atlanteans to have energy channels inscribed on their skin to aid in their spell casting.

    Queen Mera
The wife of Aquaman and queen of Atlantis.

    Sephtian
An Atlantean artificer that OL becomes acquainted with.
  • Bookworm: OL was able to bribe him into working for him by giving him a bunch of science textbooks. Justified since Atlantis is a magic-based society and never bothered to learn the basics of science.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: A magical variant, Paul came to him to find a charm to block magic. After the events of Episode 19: Displaced he has a Royal Warrant and a bigger workshop due to his charms' effectiveness. He is chosen as the magic specialist for the cure-tech think tank.
  • Mermaid Problem: He can't reproduce with non-manta ray Atlanteans for this reason.
  • Our Mermaids Are Different: Is part manta-ray. This poses a problem as he mentions they are plagued with genetic illnesses due to a shallow gene-pool and he only has about three candidates when it comes to reproducing.
  • Rank Up: After the events of Episode 19: Displaced, he goes from teacher to Royal Artificer when Queen Mera finds out that his invention, the Spell-Eater, allowed people to tank hits from Klarion.

    Lori Lemaris
An Atlantean that has the body of a traditional mermaid and a classmate of Garth and Tula.

    La'gann
An Atlantean and a classmate of Garth and Tula.
  • Fan Boy: Is one for surface world culture, he gets his wish when Queen Mera permits him and others to visit Metropolis.
  • Freaky Is Cool: Is surprisingly popular on the surface due to his similarity to a popular cartoon character.
  • Shrinking Violet: Is actually pretty shy.
  • Younger Than They Look: He is noted to be very well built, but is currently 13.

    King Naauve Sha'ark
Younger of the two kings of Nanauve, which seems to run on a Spartan-style system where one ruler must always be present. Bit of a jerk, but responsible when push comes to shove.
  • Kung-Fu Wizard: Despite learning magic, King Sha'ark is basically a magic-enhanced aquatic melee fighter, not a full-blown caster. For this reason, he decides not to participate in the fight against Klarion in Episode 19: Displaced; he's not capable of fighting up to par on land.

    Queen Clea
The ruler of the city-state of Venturia.

Themyscira

    In General
  • All Lesbians Want Kids: Amazon culture used to revolve around child-rearing and mentoring, and a good number of them want children.
  • Hidden Elf Village: They all made the deliberate decision to seclude themselves in a hidden island in the Aegean Sea.
  • Immortality Field: So long as the Amazons stay on Themyscira, they remain immortal, their wounds heal faster, and they are more resistant to diseases.
  • Immortal Procreation Clause: Averted. While they're all immortal, the only thing stopping them from having children is that there're no men and they want nothing to do with men. The desire for motherhood is seen as a moral weakness. Paul offers a way around this by using his ring to allow them to reproduce with each other.
  • Lady Land: There are no men in the Themyscira since they died out of old age.
  • Medieval Stasis: Themyscira has not changed in the least for thousands of years.
  • Semi-Divine: There are a few Amazons who are part of a group called the Heraklya, women who were conceived from Herakles' rape of the Amazons. They all possess Super-Strength and Super-Toughness in addition to a natural resistance to magic.
  • Screw You, Elves!: The Renegade wants nothing to do with them as they are deliberately close-minded and (as far as he is aware of) have no worthy resources worth speaking of.

    Queen Hippolyta
The queen of Themyscira and the mother of Diana.
  • Cool Old Lady: Has a sense of humor and is not afraid to tease her daughter. While she does like Paul's ideas of opening the Themyscira to the rest of the world, she will not force it on them unless they all agree.
  • The High Queen: Is very regal and dignified.
  • I Want Grandkids: While surprised, she's pretty pleased that she has a new grandson in Kon.
  • Like Parent, Unlike Child: Her mother Queen Otrera was a fierce, bloodthirsty warlord and her father is Ares! She's the exact opposite of them by being diplomatic and peaceful.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She is a queen who will hear both sides out and will come to the most just and fair decision possible.
  • Semi-Divine: She's a demigod by virtue of being a daughter of Ares.

    Philippus
Queen Hippolyta's chief bodyguard.

    Menalippe
The chief priestess on Themyscira.

    Orana
An Amazon who somewhat befriended the Renegade.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Was already a badass due to being an Amazon, being Awakened only made her even more powerful.
  • Physical God: Is turned into a New God by the Renegade.

    Dyctinna
One of the Amazons Paul befriends.
  • Shipper on Deck: She seems really eager to hear about any news of Diana being in a relationship with anyone.

    Io
Hephaestus' most loyal worshipper and the best blacksmith on Themyscira.

    The Circle
The Circle, consisting of Alkyone, Myrto, Charis, and Philomela, are the former royal guard of Queen Hippolyta. They tried to kill Diana when she was just a baby and were imprisoned for this act of treason.
  • Easily Forgiven: Hippolyta forgave them after Paul revealed the truth.
  • Irony: The Circle killed Gennes, a delusional Amazon who believed her whittle-baby was a real child, because they believed wanting a child was wrong. Alkyone herself secretly desires to have a child to raise, something she actively represses and refuses to acknowledge.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: The Circle has this realization when they realize that Diana really is their beloved queen's daughter and that they really did commit treason.
  • Poor Communication Kills: The vision that Apollo sent to Alkyone was supposed to be a sign that she can fulfill her secret wish of having a child of her own by adopting Donna and that she needs to protected. What Alkyone got out of it was that Diana was a diabolic construct created by a hostile Titan that was manipulating her queen. This is made worse because Apollo at no point clarified anything.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Hippolyta. This is part of why they want to kill Diana, as they do not trust the latter.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Alkyone and her cohorts truly see Diana as a monster that is deceiving Hippolyta and wish to "save" their beloved queen.
  • Would Hurt a Child: They tried to kill a Diana when she was an infant.

    Thana
The priestess of Hades.
  • Everyone Has Standards: After seeing how the denizens of Hell are tortured for eternity, she has decided to, in her words, "preach against the evils of the God of Monotheism and convert as many as I can away from the foul faiths which condemn people to such a place". She notably mentioned that she wouldn't condemn even Herakles to such a fate.
  • The Missionary: Thana, priestess of Hades, goes out into the world to preach against monotheism. Her motivation? She was dragged into Hell along with Paul, and her attunement to dead souls let her feel just what was happening there.
  • Necromancer: As a priestess of Hades, she can speak to the dead and summon the ghosts of her fallen sisters if necessary. The former ability is not limited to the Greek Underworld, though the ones there are the easiest to contact.
  • Wound That Will Not Heal: Episode 40: Carpe Tempus reveals that she has burns on her shoulder from her first and only attempt to contact the dead in the Silver City.

    Mala
One of the Heraklya, the daughters of Herakles.

    Natasa
The other priestess of Hades.
  • Necromancer: Like Thana, she can also call upon the souls of the dead.

Greco-Roman Pantheon

    In General
The Hellenistic pantheon once worshipped by the people of Greece and Rome. They have since withdrawn to Mount Olympus, with their main active worshippers being the Amazons of Themyscira.

    Zeus
The King of the Olympians and the Greek God of the Sky. He is also the father of Cassie Sandsmark.
  • Abusive Parents: Crippled his son Hephasteus by throwing him off Olympus and forced him into a marriage with Aphrodite despite knowing he'd be miserable. His justification for the latter was that if she was married, the other Olympians would stop fighting over her, at least openly.
  • Bolt of Divine Retribution: His M.O. He uses one of these on the Renegade when the latter angers him with blasphemy, but the Renegade's armor and various protections shields him. He is much more successful against Paul.
  • Brought Down to Normal: As a result of Hephasteus overthrowing and banishing him, Zeus loses most of his powers, and is trapped in his human avatar form. He's still stronger than a normal human, but not even close to what he was as a god.
  • The Casanova: Is very rugged and handsome and still popular with the ladies.
  • Disappeared Dad: Is one to Cassie. When Paul calls him out on this, Zeus just makes a dismissive remark that if his youngest daughter (who's not even ten years old yet) wants his attention, she has to earn it!
  • The Ghost: Although he's mentioned numerous times, he doesn't appear in person until Episode 123: Coup Data.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: After Hephasteus casts him from Olympus, he's stuck on Earth and reduced to begging his former lover Helena Sandsmark for a reference so he can gain access to a university education, as part of regaining his god status.
  • Jerkass Gods: Zeus is an unrepentant adulterer and never forgets a grudge, as Paul learns firsthand.
    • Later, after Diana turns down his proposition to be his queen, he has her sent to Tartarus, supposedly to make sure that Titans won't escape. He knows how petty this is as well, just handwaving it away with a line about how turning him down "has consequences".
    • Completely ignores his daughter Cassie Sandsmark existence, despite knowing fully well that she exists.
    • His arguably only good deed, providing the lightning that empowers Captain Marvel, only happened because Shazam convinced him to do it while Zeus was drunk. He doesn't care at all about it.
    • Finally bites him in the ass when this leads directly to Paul helping Hephaestaean overthrow him and take his throne.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Finally pays for what he's done both to his own family and to mortals when Hephaestaean overthrows him, strips him of most of his powers, and banishes him from Olympus until he can earn his title as God of Storms. He's little more than another mortal for now.
  • Really Gets Around: He still sleeps with as many women that he can find.
  • Sarcastic Confession: He flat out told Dr. Sandsmark that he was Zeus. She thought he was joking.

    Eris
Paul's patron deity and the Greek Goddess of Chaos.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: Despite being a goddess, Eris is rather terrified of Shivering Jemmy, a Princess of Chaos, and silently coaxes Paul on how to interact with her.
  • Bald Mystic: She has a shaved head and is a literal God of Chaos
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Whether she's helpful or destructive depends on her amusement. While she's supportive of Paul's desire to bring progress to the Themyscira, it's noted that she had her previous worshipers commit suicide in tribute to her when Themyscira became completely isolationist.
  • Chaos Is Evil: Subverted. Chaos is a neutral force; it can be destructive or progressive.
  • Divine Date: Often flirts with Paul and appears in different states of undress or outright nudity. And in one case, in full bondage gear. How much is genuine interest, and how much is her trying to get a reaction out of the rather stoic Paul is unclear, but either way, he hasn't taken her up on her offers so far.
  • God of Chaos: She's a neutral goddess of chaos
  • God Was My Copilot: After Paul gives a show of devotion to her and helps her with her mom, Eris repays him by staying in the background and helping with his integration with the Amazons in subtle ways.
  • Ms. Exposition: She explains the backstory of Hippolyta and what happened to her previous devotees.
  • My Card: She gives Paul her calling card if he wants to contact her. The part that we hear translated states: "For a Good Time, Call-"
  • Pals with Jesus: Paul and Eris have a rather friendly relationship. This leads him to be more casual with her than other Greco-Roman deities.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: When she first meets Paul, she calls herself Seris.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • She flat out warns Paul about what happened to her last worshippers.
    • She has Paul cheer her "nan" Hera when the latter was distraught over Zeus' infidelity.
  • Steven Ulysses Perhero: Her disguise is named Seris for crying out loud.
  • The Trickster: She is the Goddess of Chaos after all.

    Hera
The Queen of the Olympians and the Greek Goddess of Marriage.
  • Adaptational Heroism: Not nearly as awful as she was in the original myths, where she'd often take out her rage on Zeus's lovers and illegitimate offspring because she couldn't do anything to him directly. While she's definitely angry about it, she has made no move against either Cassandra or Dr. Sandsmark.
  • Angel Unaware: Accidentally invoked, but Paul didn't realize the distraught drunk priestess was Hera until after the fact. She in fact warned Paul that Hera was listening very carefully when he offered her advice.
  • Awful Wedded Life: While she loves Zeus, her marriage to him has been absolutely horrible with his constant philandering. It's telling how ecstatic she is when she realizes that divorce means no longer dealing with Zeus.
  • Divine Date: Is in the early stages of a new relationship with Captain Comet.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: She gets wasted in her temple when she has to face the fact that yes, Zeus cheated on her AGAIN and was lying about turning a new leaf.
  • Odd Job Gods: On the realization that modern marriages have divorces as part of the process, she becomes the Goddess of Marriage and Divorce. She now has a civilian identity writing a relationship advice column.
    • She later has a job as a television presenter in Greece.
  • Oxymoronic Being: She did not understand how the Goddess of Marriage could justify a divorce since that would mean she's not married.
  • Took a Level in Cheerfulness: Became much happier after divorcing Zeus in the Paragon timeline.

    Hephaestus
The Greek God of Fire and the Forge.
  • Actor Allusion: According to Paul, his voice sounds like the old man from Up. Said old man was also Hephaestus.
  • Genius Cripple: Like in the myth, he has a horribly stunted leg, which is propped up by a mechanical brace he built.
  • Meaningful Rename: He renames himself Hephaestaean after absorbing the power of the God/Titan of Technology.
  • My Beloved Smother: While not horribly so, Hera definitely bosses him around quite a bit and tries to get him to leave his cheating wife Aphrodite.
  • Took a Level in Badass: He becomes powerful enough to overthrow Zeus after absorbing the power of the God/Titan of Technology.
  • Ultimate Blacksmith: For the Greek gods.

    Gaea
The Greek personification of the Earth.
  • Green Thumb: Growing plant life is part of her domain.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She personally thanks OL, Zatanna, and Constantine for saving Euanthe from Nergal's power and also further thanks OL for his work in cleaning pollution and reglaciating the North Pole. She also doesn't mind that Paul accidentally found a loophole in his oath to her.

    Ploutos
The Greek God of Wealth. He goes under the identity of Professor Demetrios Prokopios while masquerading as a human and maintains the economy of the entire planet.

    Calliope
One of the Muses. She was kidnapped and held captive until she was found and freed by Paul.
  • Damsel in Distress: She was held captive for years.
  • Spanner in the Works: Although Calliope couldn't directly help Paul defeat the Queen of Fables, she was able to get the ball rolling so that he could defeat her at all.

    Melinoë
A nymph, the Greek Goddess of Nightmares and Madness, and the daughter of Hades and Persephone.

    Hades
The Greek God of Death and ruler of the Greek afterlives.
  • Berserk Button: Other religions interfering with his domain. He is greatly angered when he learns that the Silver City took Paul's soul when he was briefly dead.
  • Everybody Hates Hades: Averted. Hades is respected as one of the gods by the Amazons and is a good ruler to the dead in his domain.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Played for Drama, and unusual for this trope, involves a woman he's already married to and has children with. Hades genuinely loves Persephone, but Persephone wants nothing more than a divorce, due to how their marriage began; it was ordered by Zeus, and while Hades was happy with it, he didn't think to actually ask if Persephone felt the same. Their children were conceived before Persephone realized that Hades would never force himself on her, and the two have been in a Sexless Marriage ever since. While Hades has tried for centuries to win her over, Persephone can't get over being stuck in a marriage she didn't choose. Paul suggests there might be a way for them to have a proper courtship through selective, temporary amnesia, using the waters of the river Styx.
  • Mellow Fellow: Paul notes that he gives off this vibe.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Despite Zeus asking otherwise, he has decided to judge Paul fairly when he dies.
    • When Ted Kord shows disappointment about not being able to talk to his family after his death (since they went to Heaven), Hades resolves to talk to the Silver City to try and get them to establish some sort of visitation service.

    Akhlys
The Greek Goddess of Misery.
  • Blessed with Suck: Due to being the Goddess of Misery, Akhlys is in constant pain. She later reveals in Episode 145: Unreal that she and a few others were forced to take on the pain of the Titans as the Olympians took the power of the Titans but didn't want to leave them with anything they could use.
  • The Eeyore: Enforced. When Paul tries to help her by healing her wounds and curing her ailments, it somehow causes them to be transferred to him before she takes them back.

    Cottus
One of the Hekatonkheires. He also has a connection to Diana's creation.

    Apollo
The Greek God of Prophecy.
  • Jerkass Gods: It's his fault that the Circle tried to kill Diana as a baby. He also doesn't try to rectify his mistakes and decides to let the pieces fall where they lay. His animosity towards Paul in the Paragon timeline has prevented certain advances that could be made in magical studies as a result. It is later revealed that he's also preventing some forms of magical healing from affecting Paul.

    Vulcan
The Roman God of the Forge.
  • Adaptational Attractiveness: Downplayed. Upon first meeting him in Episode 52: Last Supper, Paul thinks to himself that, although you couldn't call Vulcan attractive, he isn't super ugly or anything.
A figure moves into sight from inside the screw. The footsteps are regular, which I was expecting. Hephaestus found my initial assumption that Vulcan would be some kind of palette swap of him quite amusing. Apparently Vulcan isn't physically deformed, he's just ugly. His hair is dark brown, unlike Hephaestus' own greying locks, and if not actually better kempt it is at least shorter. His beard is likewise better groomed. He's wearing a mostly red shirt decorated with a tartan pattern and faded and well-worn jeans. His face… It isn't that bad. His nose is quite crooked and quite a bit too fat for his face. His ears stick out to the sides and bristle with hair and his brow is rather heavy. I mean, he's not traffic-stoppingly ugly or anything. I guess Juno just has really high standards.
  • Meaningful Name: His pseudonym of Seth Lans is actually a reference to his Etruscan counterpart.
  • Ultimate Blacksmith: For the Roman gods.

    Zagreus
The Greek God of Trapping and the son of Hades and Persephone and brother of Melinoë.
  • I Just Want to Be Normal: Has little interests in participating in the drama of Olympus and prefers his job as a park ranger in Kenya. He'll still step in when his father needs his assistance, though.

    Hecate
The Greek Goddess of Magic.
  • The Hecate Sisters: Her appearance changes between the three aspects, but they don't have to look the same each time.

    Athena
The Greek Goddess of Wisdom and Strategy.
  • Virgin Power: Averted. Hephaestus reveals that she bore his only child.

    Ares
The Greek God of War.
  • Crippling Castration: Hephaestaean gelds Ares and makes him the God of Eunuchs after becoming the new ruler of Olympus.

    Metis
The Greek Goddess of Wise Counsel and the former wife of Zeus.

    Aphrodite
The Greek Goddess of Love.
  • Fair-Weather Ex: Hephaestus and Aphrodite were married at Zeus' insistence, but neither wanted to be, and Aphrodite ran off to have a long-term affair with Ares (though technically they were still married). Then Hephaestus consumes the nascent God of Technology, becoming powerful enough that he defeats Zeus and takes his throne, and suddenly Aphrodite is rushing back to her dear husband with smiles and seductive posing.

    Persephone
The Greek Goddess of Spring Growth
  • Awful Wedded Life: She never wanted to marry Hades and takes the first chance she has to get a divorce.

Hell

    Demon Constantine
A demon made from half of John Constantine's soul.
  • Berserk Button: People assuming they know what he's been through, what with John casting him off into Hell to suffer and save his own skin. Orange Lantern made it very personal there.
  • Enemy Without: He was made from the evil in Constantine's soul.
    • This is actually bad for John, as this messed him up worse than if he'd just kept the evil within himself.
  • Evil Doppelgänger: He is what John would be, if John lost his humanity and became a full on demon.
  • Good Smoking, Evil Smoking: He smokes just as much as John.
  • Literal Split Personality: The second Demon Constantine is theorized by the first one to have been created from John's unwise tendencies.
  • No-Sell: Fire from the Silver City won't kill him as it does other unholy things. It'll sting, but he'll live.
  • Shapeshifter Guilt Trip: Tries to fool Orange Lantern into thinking he was John when caught opening a Hellgate. It doesn't work, partly because he forgot to change his eyes.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Same as the original John, he relies more on trickery than brute force.

    Sabbac I/Timothy Karnes
A young boy who was adopted by a satanic cult and brainwashed into believing he is Hell's Mightiest Champion and empowered by six demons from Hell.

    Sabbac II/Ishmael Gregor
A mortal who steals the original Sabbac's powers.

    Ibac/Stanley Printwhistle
A mortal who was given powers from historical conquerors.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: Needs to say "Ibac" in order to transform.
  • Dumb Muscle: He has great power, but is also a complete idiot. He can be reverted by saying his name... which OL nearly tricks him into doing multiple times without trying.
  • Playing with Fire: His transformation comes with flames erupting from his body, which he can use in a fight.

    The First of the Fallen/Theo
The first being thrown out of Heaven. Hell grew around where he landed.
  • Make Sure He's Dead: Paul goes the extra mile by reducing his body into meat slices after decapitating him. Then slicing the bits to ribbons.
  • No-Sell: In Episode 144: Hellish Content, the First of the Fallen reveals to the Renegade that he's met Darkseid and that he found the Anti-Life Equation amusing.
The First of the Fallen: I was there when the universe was created. Did you really think some muttered words would do anything to me?
  • Off with His Head!: Is decapitated by Paul before being chopped into slices.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: Paul really wants to Make Sure He's Dead.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: He has a lot of power but has no creativity.

    Edward Clariss/Rival
A speedster and Jay Garrick's nemesis who died and was sent to Hell. He became a Demon and returned to take his revenge on him and anyone in his way.
  • Arch-Enemy: He's Jay's, even after death.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: His time in Hell was full of this... until he got so pissed off that it stopped bothering him and he powered his way towards getting revenge, becoming a demon.
  • Demonic Possession: He possesses Max Mercury and Jay Garrick.
  • Evil Is Petty: He knows that all killing Jay would do is send him to heaven. So what he wants to do is try to sully his soul in someway.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Tries eating people while possessing Jay's body.
  • No-Sell: A kinetic bubble can't hold him because he knows how to remove kinetic energy.
  • Super-Speed: A Jay-level speedster.

    Harm/William Hayes
A young man who stole the Sword of Beowulf and was subdued by Artemis and Zatanna.
  • Adaptational Badass: In canon, Harm's abilities were all a result of wielding the Sword of Beowulf. Without it, he was a Badass Normal at best. Here, he becomes the third iteration of Sabbac, and then a fully fledged demon that even other demons fear.
  • Ascended Extra: Harm showed up for one episode of the original series. Although his canon activities were foiled early and off-screen, he is able to become a bigger and slightly more reoccurring threat after first becoming the newest incarnation of Sabbac, and later a demon.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: Needs to say "Sabbac" in order to transform.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: He successfully eats an angel despite how badly this hurts him, earning him respect and fear in Hell.
  • Lack of Empathy: He refers to everyone else as an "it".
  • The Soulless: Gets his soul stolen after being defeated by OL.
  • Third-Person Person:He always refers to himself in the third person.
  • Villain Cred: He is initially seen as an upstart. This is no longer the case after he demonstrates how evil and powerful he is by eating an angel.

    Neron
A Lord of Hell and competitor of Satanus.

    Carol Bowen/Valeria
The former wife of Buzz. She is now a succubus.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She acts as if she's an victim of a demon, when in fact she herself is the demon the Team is looking for.
  • Succubi and Incubi: She's a succubus and runs a massage parlor to get the energy she and other succubi need without killing.

    Buzz
A demon who served Beelzebub. He is also the boyfriend of Linda Danvers.
  • Red Herring: He's believed to be the source of an outbreak of Demon Jizz. He reveals that he was actually framed by his ex-wife Valeria.

    Gloria
A succubus who was banished from Hell. The Renegade seeks her out to act as a tutor for his succubus/vampire hybrid children.
  • Interspecies Romance: She is in a relationship with a human soccer player.
  • Possessing a Dead Body: She does this in Episode 113: Medidiction with Linda Danvers' body in the Renegade timeline so that she can have children with her husband.

Silver City

    In General
The Judeo-Christian religion and its afterlife. Overseen by a hierarchy of angels under the omnipresence of God himself.
  • Holier Than Thou: Many of the angels are like this.
  • I Have Many Names: The judeo-christian God is heavily implied to be the same all-knowing entity worshipped by other alien races across the cosmos, most notably under the title of The Source. It's all but stated that it was His hand that Krona saw during his experiment to witness the creation of the universe.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: In this case God. They must also follow the commands of anyone with more theurgical power than themselves.

Four Kings

    Asmodel
The King-Angel of the Bull-Host.
  • Fallen Angel: Was sent to Hell for his actions against the Silver City.
  • Knight Templar: So much that he wants to go back to the Old Testament way of doing things.
  • Light Is Not Good: Asmodel essentially tries to stage a coup in both Heaven and Earth in his desire to return things to the Old Testament, and because of the way the hierarchy works, his subordinate angels are forced to follow his directions without realizing it came from him and not God.

Other Angels

    Zauriel
An angel who was stationed in Eden.
  • Logic Bomb: Zauriel ended up paralyzed by Paul's actions, as he couldn't do anything without going against his orders. Paul offered him the Fruit of Good and Evil to free himself. He accepted.
  • Thanatos Gambit: Lets himself be killed so that he could become an angel again.

    Karrien Excalibris
The Archangel of War.

    Gabriel
A former Archangel who was cast out of the Silver City thanks to the machinations of John Constantine.
  • And I Must Scream: Literally, as the forces of Hell have somehow turned his theurgy into a form of magic that acts as its anti-thesis.

Pony Planet/Planet Wilson

Equestria

    Luna
The twin sister of Celestia. She is trying to catch up with everything she has missed.

    Celestia
The queen of Equestria who has reigned for centuries.
  • Big Good: She's basically the god of her people, who has defended them from all kinds of threats.
  • Broken Pedestal: After Celestia refused to explain to Sunset why she was trying to teach her student ethics and friendship, it became permanently broken when Sunset realized that Celestia did not understand Sunset at all, and vice-versa.

Witch World

Puritans

    In General
The descendants of the colonists of Roanoke, who were brought into a parallel universe by Melmoth, the deposed King of The Sheeda. The original home of Klarion.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: The "livestock" the people use in Witch World are insectoid in nature due to having their origin with Melmoth and the Sheeda. For example, they breed giant maggots that can be "milked" for a powerful resin used as building material.
  • Dark World: Witch World is a dark and desolate place where even the sun looks strange. Magic infuses everything and is a basic part of life there.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: The only connection the original colonists had to their former home were the two Bibles they brought with them from Earth, resulting in their descendants having some odd ideas about Christianity, though they still have the basic concept of it right.
  • The Fundamentalist: They are unwavering and adamant in their faith.
  • Voodoo Zombie: The Grundymen; after an inhabitant of Witch World dies, they're given a brief period of rest before a relative, usually their children, raise them as near-mindless zombies and used as slave labor. When they're released from this duty, they die for good.

    Beulah
The sister of Klarion.

Warlocks

    In General

The Heartland

    In General
A magical realm embodying the ideals of the American Dream.
  • American Eagle: The Heartland Eagle, the embodiment of the concept of liberty itself, who serves as Paul's guide.
  • Eagleland: The Heartland is Type 1, America the Beautiful, though we don't see much of it, as Paul is just there for information on Uncle Sam, and leaves with the Eagle afterwards.
  • Have You Seen My God?: The real Uncle Sam has been missing since 1974. The entity posing as him is actually Johnny Reb, the embodiment of the Confederacy, working with Boss Smiley.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: The Heartland Eagle loves McDonald's, which Paul brought along as a tribute to give him access to the Heartland (more specifically, a Happy Meal). The Eagle considers fast food to be a symbol of freedom, presumably the freedom of eating whatever you want, even if it's not healthy for you. He rejects the orange juice Paul brought as a drink.

The Badlands

    In General
The metaphysical home of the less savory aspects of the United States.
  • And I Must Scream: As originally shown in Hellblazer, the spirit of John. F Kennedy is trapped in the Badlands, forever wandering the realm, suffering from the same massive head wound that killed him. Alan Scott manages to restore him using the Blue Light, turning him into a kind of idealized symbol of the Presidency.
  • As Long as There Is Evil: Johnny Reb can't be permanently killed; as long as there are still people who embrace the ideals of the Confederacy, he will always return.
  • Damaged Soul: Kennedy has effectively been reduced to a brain-damaged shell of his former self due to the circumstances of his death and the beliefs and memories of the people of the United States. Alan fixing him with the blue ring doesn't actually restore the man Kennedy was in life, instead turning him into an idealized version of himself rather than the flawed, philandering man he'd actually been. Knowing that this is just one of the many ways the human soul can be damaged is the main reason for why Paul is so insistent that his friends take their eventual afterlives seriously.
  • Dark World: As befitting a realm filled with the worst aspects of the United States, the Badlands is filled with nightmarish locations and horrible monsters.
  • Eagleland: The Badlands are Type 2, America The Boorish; an ugly wasteland ruined by greed, hate and violence. It literally rains blood when Paul and the others first arrive there, implied to be the blood of soldiers killed in senseless and unjustified wars.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Johnny Reb first appears unnamed in Episode 79: Z-E-R-O.
  • Evil Counterpart: Several inhabitants serve as this towards the inhabitants of the Heartland, like The Badlands Vulture to the Heartland Eagle and Johnny Reb to Uncle Sam.
  • General Ripper: The Brass, the personification of the military-industrial complex.
  • I Choose to Stay: Rather than leave the Badlands and pass into the proper afterlife, Kennedy decides to remain in the Badlands in the hopes of fixing it.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Unsurprisingly, Johnny Reb is this, uses the n-word and considers slavery to be a fundamental part of himself.
